TKR Hopefaith's Ups and Downs of Recovery

@hopefaith and @Betsy-Knees-7-2014 !

On top of that my PT put 21/2 pound weight on my ankles and had.me do leg lifts from a sitting position. I'mresh my, so painful! Mohave not recovered yet from the pain.

@Quasi
That is just too much PT! It's not even a month since you had major surgery. Your knee needs to heal first before you start strengthening exercises. No wonder it hurt! It's far too soon to be using weights.

Remember our mantra:
- rest, elevate, ice and take your pain meds by the clock
- if it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physiotherapist - to do it to you
- if your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again
- if you won't die if it's not done, don't do it
- never stand when you can sit, never sit when you can lie down, never stay awake when you can go to sleep!

@Quasi, so glad to see your post, sorry that PT pushed you... and the work thing ...urgh. Glad you took Mr Icey...

The weekend is coming, any work you could bring home?

In time you will make it...

Hello all my friends! Haven't posted here for a few days. Been running around on other threads. Think of you all so,often. I continue to be amazed and dismayed regarding the lack of post op care for TKR's.
Without this site, I truly would have thought the slow recovery was my fault, instead of this surgery has a fairly long recovery for most,not all people. You all have validated my experience over and over. I am trying to switch over to Tramadol. I am having some weird side effects, so we'll see.
Hoping for a less pain day for you.

@Quasi I had not read my previous page. My goodness have you had an incredibly difficult week! I am sooo sorry! I don't know what to say. Your knee is screaming, huh? They do that. I love Josephine's depiction of the infant. When it cries it HAS to be responded to. (They are big babies for awhile). :yes: I will be thinking of you. @busylizzie you are on my mind a lot. I pray for good pain relief. @71Beetle thanks for stopping by. How are you? @Tamsmom I think I already posted on your thread, but the weather in your area sounds dreadful! Let us know how you are. @Nana moon 27 hope your caravan is fun. No more scares I hope. @cafecortado I just read your first recovery thread and was appalled that you went through all of that. I am going to stop because this is when I lose threads frequently.:SUNsmile:

Nice to hear that all is okay with you. Please be patient with yourself and try not to compare to others. You will get better when your body is ready for it. I feel your frustration as I am in the same boat. We are our own worst critics.
Keep up with the BoneSmart mantra and keep up with your exercises. Keep well!

Hopefaith, you and another person here and probably more than I realize are doing this all on your own and that is amazing! I have a husband to help and teenage daughter that for some reason this week has decided to be helpful! Your recovery is going to look different when add that and the other health issues in. I think you are making great progress, I would have crawled up in a ball and stayed there if it were me!

Soooo, I was getting ice out of the freezer. I freeze water bottles as one of my many options. I open the freezer door, a bottle of water comes flying out and hits, wait for it, the top of my scar. How did it know? Very red and swelling. Well at least you all get the gravity (ha ha) of that happening. :bricks:

I was vacuuming for my wife the other day and being right handed I push the vacuum with my right hand. No matter whether my right leg was in front of me or in back of me, every time I pulled the vacuum back it hit my knee. I will no longer vacuum because of that. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
