TKR Hopefaith's Ups and Downs of Recovery

I went to my hematologist/oncologist yesterday, first time since the TKR. Of course I had to update my medication list and he asked me if I was taking anything for the pain. I told him Tylenol and I was down to 1/2 of a 10/325 hydrocodone at bedtime. He immediately said that I needed to get off the hydrocodone or I would become addicted! I have to give him some slack, though, he is 73 years old but when it comes to blood disorders he is tops!

You're slowly weaning off medications with no problems now, so I don't think there is an issue. You won't get addicted.
Very sensible of you to think as you do about your hematologist's comment!

Sounds like you are coming off pain meds sensibly. Hematologist expertise is blood, Not pain meds.

I'm at 1 325 percocet at bedtime and letting my body decide if I need one more during the night. I'm down from 2 and 2. I think the acid test is if you're late and you feel that you're late, it might not be the time to stop. Like just now the incision burning pain really made itself known and sure enough I was an hour late for Tylenol.

@thanks for asking @Nana moon 27 I just lost the post, fell asleep. I have hit a hard wall these past 2 days of depression. Can't stay awake...-will post more when my eyes can stay open. X X

Love and prayers. Feel better soon or call your GP if you have to. It is a tough recovery and you have lots going on. Xoxo

@Jozilla @Ellejay @cafecortado @kneeper @Nana moon 27 @busylizzie It feels so nice to be missed. Amazing how intuitive you all are. I did go to my GP/NP yesterday @Jozilla. She and I go back 9 yr. she is a gem. She gave me ideas for stepping down off these meds. When I am ready. She also will take over when the OS/NP's bail. So,I feel, much better about that. My living situation is horrid. I am not sure what to do. He is still here due to my recovery (I have stairs and am still dependent in other areas). I need my name sake (here) right now.
I was so very touched that I was missed. You are all such compassionate people.

Hey @hopefaith, I'm sorry things are so tough at the moment. You have so much going on, it can't be easy for you and painful. I'm praying now for hope for you. Try to take it one day at a time, concentrate on the now and know that God is with you and will never forsake you. Blessings xx

@cafecortado you are so very kind. I wish I knew how to do the quote thing. I would love to quote "God will never forsake you." It is such a truth. I needed to hear that. My faith is my rock.

Glad to see you back posting, thank you so much for stopping by my thread with words of encouragement.
Better days are ahead for both of us.

Good evening to all on this side of the pond and hope all of you on the other are resting well by now. This evening I am especially thinking of @busylizzie as her surgery is scheduled tomorrow and it looks like all is on time. @Quasi I am wondering how your day has gone and want to make sure you are being extra kind to that knee. (: @cafecortado love your new avatar. @Nana moon 27 I am not sure when you can read this, but I wish you safety and very hopefully no more events, only good ones! @dogwheels your cake for your daughter is/was truly amazing. I love it. The colours. So very artsy. @Pumpkln I hope things are a little more peaceful for you. It is such a hard time right now. @Karringtyn I hold you close in my prayers. I am SO sorry for the tragic events of the last few days for you. @DogLoverx3 hope you are well, and that the knee is settling out some. @Ellejay I hope your holiday continues to be wonderful. Are you still taking bicycle rides? Is the countryside lovely? @Jozilla hope you have had a good day today. Thanks so much for the advice to go to my NP. It was a huge relief to have her on board with all of this. She is a total gem. @JustJeff how about you day? kayaking again? and your scar? I am amazed how they change and feel different daily. I know I have missed some of you. I have a limited memory right now, but know I think of all of you frequently.

Hi! Nope. Just hanging around the house reading, cooking, cleaning and walking. Feeling a bit better? You must have beautiful scenery out there. Aspens in spring. .. ahhh. Have you been able to get out in nature at all? Makes a world of difference. That last scab on the scar fell off so I am officially sealed up and ready to go swimming. .. when the water warms up. Hours in the sun on Saturday didn't affect it with the sunblock I liberally applied. You know, normal days are great days. Regular people don't realize how wonderful normal life is. I felt soo wonderful kayaking on the river! Much more than ever before. Even a1.5 mile walk with my dog was a wonderful event. I had tried just going around the block with her before surgery and I barely made it back, hobbling in great pain.
