Bilateral THR Hippy Toonz

520am.
I never thought about THIS.
We have an automated thermostat. Ours turns on about 5am and warns the lower floor of the house so that when we get up in the morning it's not freezing. The bedroom that I'm temporarily using is one that isn't really well balanced with the forced air so it gets DOWNRIGHT GODDAM HOT in this room by about 527am (now).
Here's the thing. My door is shut to not allow the dog to jump on me or the bed. The thermostat is out in the hall.
The DW is sleeping upstairs amd the only way I know to get the thermostat turned down is to call and wake her OR get up, use my walker to go the 7 feet to the thermostat and hop like crazy that our frenetic dog doesn't heat me and come running down to "greet" me.
The DW was SO tired yesterday that I could just look at her and SEE it. Id rather not wake her.

Hot air is still pouring into the room. I'm beginning to cook.
Ugh.

I'm going to have to call her.

*sadface

Good idea. Roasted Toonz would not be good. :-) glad to hear you are safe and sound at home. Keep up the ice and elevation.

Keep it up dr. Your gonna make . I'm inspired reading your post. Over here on my end so far so good

And your pain pills make you hot too! Found that out after the 1st night. Those lovely homemade ice packs can help some. The dog I have no clue. I have 2 to keep off of me (and not very well either I must say)

OK, @sissy46 : Since you asked...
I've documented the ride home but nothing after that. I'm set up in a 'guest' bedroom where I'm by myself in our empty-nester house. The DW is upstairs with Indiana the dog and Luna the cat. The idea is that I can call her and ask for help if I need it. (I often do).

First night consisted of getting home (see previous post involving picking up drugs) and then the arduous (I ain't kidding) and exhausting (still not kidding) trip from car to bedroom. I'd say 60 feet. No stairs.

My mom, my dad, (both spry retirees), and my wife futzed over getting me settled in and getting The Important Stuff within reach (the grabber [an essential tool], water, drugs, phone, tissues, urinal, straw, blankets, pillows).

I then got my time-due does of oxy and engaged in an awesome 3+ hours straight of sleep. Woke because I had to pee. While awake, got my oxy, read some messages (it's weird, besides the need to mete out drug doses by the clock, this whole experience has made TIME a sort of irrelevant commodity).

Back to sleep and another 3+hours of great z's. Did the routine again.

Back to sleep and then the heater turned on (see previous post).

This AM, the DW has made me an awesome latte, I've lounged around and then, just before my time-due oxy dose, I decided I'd WALK TO THE BATHROOM.

My gawd, what a grueling shuffle-walk THAT was. I got there, peed, shuffle-walked agonizingly back and got back on the bed. I did that all by myself with the DW looking on in case something weird happened (not that agonizing walker-shuffling-in-the-nude-except-bandages isn't ALREADY weird).

Needless to say, I was once again EXHAUSTED. DW helped get the leg-pillows in place and then brought me some breakfast which I ate while typing this.

Right now, the latest round of oxy is totally kicking in, so I'm going to stop typing before I say something unacceptable for this forum.

Remind me to tell you about the Oxycontin vs Oxycodone prescription mess-up.

Nap time.

@DrToonz , don't worry at all about this stamina thing. Stamina is the major complaint post op. And you have had 2 hips done - mega stamina issues. Worry not! This too shall pass. Early days. Rest, rest and more rest! You are doing well!

See someone else says this too shall pass. The first few days I kept a log of meds just so I made sure I did not miss a dose

Sleep well @DrToonz. That is the best for you right now. I stepped down from oxicotin to oxicodone yesterday. Seems to be working well. I have just a few of the stronger left for bedtime.

@DrToonz . Welcome home - enjoying your posts, xo to you and your DW. Wishing you strength & stamina. Yes, it is unbelievable how just a few steps or movements exhausts you & you are an unbelievable bilateral! Look forward to cheering you on!

@everyone and @Jaycey " Mega stamina issues" =LOL.

Had a great nap. Killed about an hour dozing while worrying and another 2 hours sleeping like a baby. :)

So here's the thing about the other thing: I am allergic to vicodin. So, when I was offered a drug I had not had before, I questioned the nurse on the drug (i've been given "i'm allergic" drugs before and didn't want to repeat the paramedics-at-the-house episode). I think she erred on the side of caution and canceled the Oxycontin scrip. I only have oxycodone. The hospital called me today (a standard followup) to say "how ya doin" and I told them of the pain and how it varies from 2 to 7 or so. That's when they discovered that I was not taking (because I never got) my oxycontin.
So...the DW is off for a drive to the hospital to fetch the super-controlled-substance document.
"ONLY AVAILABLE IN PERSON - WE CANNOT CALL THIS IN TO YOUR PHARMACY".
so that she can drive back to our local pharmacy and wait for them to fill it. (The hospital is 17 miles away through the heart of city so it can take a 1/2 hour or MUCH more if traffic is involved).
Not a huge big deal, just somethin' to have to do.

About the stamina thing: Oh, yes... just a 20-foot shuffle to the bathroom is like a damned marathon at this point. I get back to the bed and (exactly as The Mantra forbids) am so exhausted i can't wait to just lay down! I'll probably do that trip MAYBE one more time today. Maybe I'll wait 'til tomorrow.

So...after getting the same message from my TWO RN friends/relatives and my one MD friend whose primary advice was "Stay ahead of the pain" I'm working on doing that. Yes, still. Yes, again. I keep thinking that if there are 10 minutes where I feel good, then I must be 'getting better' so I can reduce the pain meds. NOT SO!

I know, I know, the Bonesmart Mantra includes a very succinct "Take your pain meds by the clock" segment. I just started thinking for myself rather than trusting the pros! (I should know by know that thinking for myself often leads to trouble).

I know this post as ridiculously long, but hey, I don't gots a whole lot else goin' on right now!

@DrToonz .......WOW! Reading your blog was/is like going on an adventure, I am a very imaginative human being! Loved the photo! I am just scared about controlling the pain as I am allergic to codeine and synthetic codeine so won't be able to do the oxy at all! Just don't want to be in pain as I have issues controlling the pain I am enduring now. Also fearful of the 55 mile drive home then getting from the vehicle into bed, more than 60 feet! Have 2 little (less than 20 lbs each) constant, devoted 4 legged babies that will not understand they can not be under or on top of me! Closest toilet is probably 30 feet away so sounds like a potty on the side of the bed for me for a few days, you guys are soooooo lucky in that area with having a urinal! I am still set for March 7th so I will keep an update on you. Keep sending the wonderful writings, good and bad. I hope I can do half as good of a job as you have! Rest and write when you can.............

@DrToonz.....OMG after a root canal I was given Vicodin and ended up with my husband racing me to the ER, live in a very rural area! When I got there throat was closing, lips swollen, hives from head to toe literally, dizzy and it was awful........after epi and Benadryl and a quick look and listen I went home ($1,000.00 bill in hand)! I hope they experiment on me in the hospital before letting me do the 55 miles home, plus the pharmacy we use will be closed, can't wait for hours at the Walmart we have to pass, maybe they can keep me until Monday instead of Sunday! Anything about a wheel chair? That would make the trip from the door to bedroom easier I think, better make some more lists of questions.............

@put2pasture Are you getting bilateral or one hip done? Just curious.
I'm certain that they'll provide you with a pain killer to replace those you're allergic to. As far as the drive goes, my experience was that once IN the car it wasn't a thing. Entering and exiting were challenging. Let the hospital know of your concern for the trip from car to bed and from bed to bath. They'll make sure you're ready before they discharge you. I DID that trip, and it hurt, but the Therapist knew it hurt, assured me that I was not damaging anything, and let me know that after the workout I needed to elevate, ice, meds and rest. That worked fine. (it was still gruelling, but I'm OK with that, if that's what it takes).
My wife keeps our 35 lb dog on his leash and doesn't allow him his normal freedom of jumping up on the bed to greet me. She's also walled off the hall leading to my temporary bedroom to keep Indie out.
I'm hoping that reading my posts being an adventure is OK and not just too damned long. The details that I've gleaned from others' posts have been so valuable to me I thought I'd share. what the heck. Not like I don't have TIME!~

@DrToonz I laughed out loud reading your posts about the thermostat and the weird walk to the bathroom! Keep up the great work. Hoping every day gets a little easier for you:)

@DrToonz ..........No, please don't stop the writing! I am having both hips done at the same time. I am looking forward to this current pain ending, I had to come home from work early and medicate, over the counter stuff doesn't do a thing. For some unknown reason I was in a "10" level of pain, tears, pain from L3L4 across to middle of buttocks to side of hips! Had a large tear in the right meniscus in August and surgery in September and my knee was in agony today also. I came home and took a muscle relaxer and morphine, which knocks me out for about 35 minutes an hour after taking, but just laying down under the warm electric blanket gave relief. I am sick of whining, don't know what I would do without you guys right now. Thanks for all the input, that is all I have right now time, just so limited to doing anything, even driving hurts! On the good side, I just about fell over when I witnessed my husband doing dishes, blown away! I am looking forward to your hour by hour moments, forward steps and backward steps, it's amazing the connection that is on this forum!
