Hey @jebrig3164 : I have now participated in my own scientific study and verified a long-held theory.
I tested the bonesmart assertion that everyone should take thier pain-killer meds by the clock.
It is true.
I tried NOT doing it and was quite unhappy.
Good luck today.
Be sure to put your tray table up, and your seat-back in the full upright position, because you're gonna have a lot of serious turbulence!
Focus on the landing. :)

Keep up the good work @DrToonz you have a great attitude towards it all and I'm sure your detailed account is super helpful to those pre surgery who crave information like I did

Glad you are getting the meds Dr. If you have ever watched "We bought a Zoo" there is a line in there that says "hey, Buster, missing the meds?" Well frankly my dear Scarlett, yes I am". My script is starting to run low so going to call the Drs office today and see about a refill for the weekend". Eat, sleep and be medicated are my 3 favorite mantras in addition to ice! May you see improvement each day from here on out!

I need to go back through @Josephine's posts and find her pain cocktail that helps in between times again. Later to all my hippy, hippy friends.

Thanks for telling me. I'm not gonna be a pain chaser . I'm gonna stay on top of it . I have checked in the hospital it's on NOW!!!

Yay! See you on the other side my friend! Keep us posted when you feel up to it.

@DrToonz ...Glad it is all over for you, congrats!!! And a bilateral, I am truly impressed!! I sincerely hope I do as well with one as you seem to be doing with both. I remember other times when I had surgery that involved blood loss that the lightheadedness happened to me as well. Also as someone else mentioned, just getting up after laying down can drop the BP and cause that as well. You have the best outlook on things and are still so positive. I just hope that when I am sitting where you are that I can have at least one half of the positive attitude that you have. Again congrats to you!! You have arrived!!

Hugs and healing,
Donna

@mystikfairy61 : Hi, Donna. Thanks for your very kind words. The BP thing is one of the criteria I must surpass in order to go home.
I sure hope it rights itself soon!
If you read all my posts back a ways you'll see that I'm not ALWAYS having a 'positive attitude'. I'm trying though!
You still have a few weeks, right?
The most freaked out I've been was leading up to surgery. After that, in the hospital, irs been oretty rough. And I'm not even 2 days post-op yet!

I remain optimisic.
(More of a mantra than a statement of fact)

@DrToonz ...you say that you don't always have a positive attitude but the positive seems to override any
negativity that I have heard!! And you are right, my surgery is in 20 days on Feb 18th. I haven't gotten the pre-op jitters yet but I have been making lists of things I need to get done so I don't forget anything ( I have fibromyalgia, and with fibro fog never know when I will forget stuff,LOL). Looking forward to having you in my rooting section when I join the new hippies later this month!!
Peace and comfort to you
Donna

@DrToonz - thank you for sharing the details. I enjoy your short, but impactful bullet point style. Most of all, your honest, fun and optimistic spirit draws pre and posties in. As I read what you and others go through, I'm more grateful for my easy recovery, and all the more want to extend encouragement, admiration, love and hugs to all, for your strength as you face each new moment, hour by hour, day by day. God bless you and thank you!

@Hibbe : you're makin' me teary-eyed here. I guess that could be some Oxycodone talking, but I definitely appreciate the sentiment.
I will take all the digital hugs and encouragement I can get.
I'm lying here in my hospital bed having just been woken up from one of the fragmented (but good and deep) sleep periods I had last night.
Awaiting breakfast.
Scared but also excited for PT to come by at 9am and torture...ahem...encourage me.
Breakfast is on the way, the pain is at a 3 or so (great compared to my recent 7's), my helpful mother is bringing me a latte later and....
I'm still optimistic.

Go 'Hawks!

@DrToonz
It's only been 2 days! :) glad you had good/deep sleep (a miracle in the hospital - no offense to nursing staff, just a fact)...and thrilled you're down to a 3. ENJOY your PT (pleasing toonz time) xo

@DrToonz - here's some more hugs! Your upbeat and funny posts are actually uplifting and I have to remind myself that you are in the hardest couple of days - and yet cheering up others! Way to go!! Its going to get better from here - but just not every moment, every hour or every day. But overall the trend will be good!

"I remain optimisic." Love it! Fake it till you make it! When you spend a significant time in bed, the body sometimes gets used to lying flat and forgets to compensate for standing up. So you need to retrain it. Spend some time with your legs dangling off the side of the bed and also some time in your chair. Good job on the pain meds! Remember, your are under repair! Handle with care. Pretty soon you will be counting laps instead of steps.

Man your moving and trying your best with two new hips. I just pray I do as good with one . Chill out homie and take it easy. I can tell your gonna do fine. Mines tomorrow!!!!!! Nervous nervous but Gods on my side !!!!!!

Do not worry jebrig3164 I am 2 weeks post op now There is nothing to be nervous about. The Surgeons know there thing they have done so many of these surgeries. You are in good hands. Good luck to you and we will be talking to you on the other side (post op)lol.

Hey Toonz, physical therapists are great folks and mean well but if any of them tries to get you to do straight leg lifts, just go ahead and kick their tee----I mean, politely decline. I don't think anyone I've seen post on this forum has had anything to say about straight leg lifts being beneficial, and they've cause problems for some.
You have a wonderful attitude, but don't be stoic. Take all the pain meds you need and some for good measure, too.
You bilateral folks astound me. Awesome!

So...
I've been told I can go home whenever I want.
Just called the DW and she'll pick me up after work.
Scared to be away from this full-time 24/7 attention team.
Happy to be making The Next Step.
I'm going to nap between now and leaving 'cause PT was just here and DAMN!!! that's a workout!
(All I did was get up, shuffle with my walker to the sink, brush my teeth, shuffle with walker to a commode, sit, stand, and shuffle the walker back to bed and lie down and I'M SPENT!)
A little scared and a little excited.
I remain optimistic. :)

Wow, awesome; you are getting another milestone under your belt when you leave for your home. :yay:

Just take it slow and listen to your body. It will take at least a week before you feel like doing more than absolutely necessary, and that is ok. East, sleep and essentials, everything else can wait.
