THR Hippity Doo Dah!<

59billy... good idea. I think my husband has been amazing with this situation and he told me straight away to simply TELL him what I need/want. :)

I am fed up already of hearing me ask Tony to do things for me... Please could you get me jug of water... please could you put it on the little side table...it would be helpful if I could reach the little table. Please could I have a sandwich. He has already mastered the 'eye roll'..... The house is split level and if I could only master the steps with my dead leg I would just go and do it myself. He can be really sweet and helpful when he is in the mood to be... here's hoping the mood hits him a bit more often.

@Fairydell I agree but we really don't have much choice. I think it took us at least 36 hours home to get into a routine and things in the best places. At one point we all had a little strategy meeting. Of course, I have the benefit of 2 caregivers right now so that obviously makes a difference. If anyone comes by, invite your husband to get out of the house for an hour and please don't feel nervous about asking your company for help. I have helped people recover from things like surgery, new mothers, etc., and as the more able visitor I WANT to be asked to help. However, I know for me I also know I hesitate to ask what I can do constantly because I don't want to bombard the person with questions.

You are doing so well in such a short time! I love your sense humour too. Do you have a leg lifter? or a long bathrobe belt you could make one? I still use it sometimes to get my leg into bed or onto the high pillow (Lounge Doctor) I use for elevating. I love it. I too moan sometimes but it was mostly in the first few weeks. I never do that but somehow have no filters when I had pain in the nighttime or couldn't get settled. I would wonder where the noise was coming from...ha ha. I am so impressed with your compassion for the rest of us on here and grateful how up to date you are keeping us on you!
I hope today is full of more restful periods, time on the deck, and less pain. They don't sell Tylenol #3 in the US but I know it well as my mother used to take it. It has codeine in it so they don't sell it here over the counter like in Canada. I am taking 500 mg extra strength Tylenol now as needed and it works. But then again remember I am the one who was taking 12 oxycontin per day for the 2-3 weeks. So take what your OS suggests and get through these first weeks with good pain control as possible.
Have a good day!

@Carriemay
You made me laugh... don’t think hubby will have time for an affair or the energy.
Sounds like things are doing much better for you.
Yes, men... everything has to be spelt out carefully & even then a reminder is usually required!! My hubs has been great... but he keeps telling me how tired he is!! aggghhh! Still... i’m very grateful!!
Today I’ve been to hospital for a wound check, picked up my granddaughter from the station.. been to lunch & now going home.. not 3 weeks out until Weds... so all good.
Hoping your day 5 gets better & better xx

We've referred to it around here as the KK (Kim K butt) :heehee: Many temporarily sport one.
I want to hear more about this seductress in the little box, lol. That's a whole lot of cray, cray. :rotfl:
Blame the craziness on the drugs...while you can get by with it.
Hope you have a lovely day!

They don't sell #3's over the counter, you do need an Rx but you can get #1's and #2's over the counter. Codiene is very effective for me.

Do you have a leg lifter?
I do have a lifter but finding that a bit harsh on my foot so using the housecoat belt or like in the hospital a single sheet rolled long ways. The later being the best for the log leg by far.

picked up my granddaughter from the station..
Are you driving Hoppy or just a passenger? It must be lovely to have your granddaughter there for a visit; is she staying a few days?

Unfortunately not the easiest to get ice on the tushy either!
I am learning to place the ice on the chair just before sitting for the tush and for the side of the hip, I put about 1/2 of it on the chair and 1/2 going up the chair arm so I can mold it around the hip and hold in place with a handtowel.

My worst pregnancy dream was my husband hiding his girlfriend in the area where my feet went in the car and then denying she was there. That one was horrible and many tears were shed. :heehee:

I have managed to wash my hair and have a light sponge bath. I sat on ice in my wheelchair while I dried my hair and made some appointments for staples & physio. Had a nice instant messaging chat with a good friend and looked out on the back yard (does not qualify to be referred to as a garden). Even though I am certainly having some pain, I feel a quiet contentment. Very peaceful and happily optimistic. Doing some video calls later with the kids/grandkids :loveshwr:

Haha. Read that as “ instant MASSAGING “ chat and thought wow you have awesome friends.

@beachlily Did you know you don't have to quote messages to reply to them. Or you can just quote the little bit you are referring to. You do small bits by highlighting it. Here's an example:
Had a nice instant messaging chat with a good friend

So then you are only quoting the bit you want to refer to :)

Oh forgot to share this little interesting tidbit. I was trying to get my hairclip off my night table but couldn't reach it from the wheelchair without breaking restrictions. Before asking for help, I fetched my handy dandy grabber to try that and not only did it grasp the clip, I discovered the tip of my grabber is magnetic!

Didn’t drive @Carriemay60 (although I feel I could) but surgeon won’t clear me until i’ve seen him in 3 weeks time.
Granddaughter staying for 3 days... she’s a musical theatre student so we’ve already heard so many songs she’s been learning!!!
Who knew about the magnet on the bottom of the grabber... so good when you drop an earring!!!
You sound very content with your progress now... great!!!

When my son was about 7 he won a contest at school in Tokyo for being the most successful expatriate kid in eating rice grains with chopsticks. I think I need to try it with my grabber. Nothing like sitting around for months to dream up ridiculous ideas, lol

That’s a cute story about your son.

If such talents are hereditary, I’m willing to bet you could pick up a rice grain with the grabber.

The interesting part would be getting grain to mouth.

I have a vision of all us hippies now checking the end of their grabbers for magnets! Loving the sense of humour on this thread, it brings back quite a few memories of early recovery, well-meaning but “annoying” husbands and the kindness of friends. Never a dull moment :-)
