THR Hippity Doo Dah!<

Hi @Carriemay60 I have just snorted and chuckled through your posts. You sound such fun. How is it all feeling today? I came home a couple of hours ago and am catching up on all my fellow hippies. I think hubby is planning on starving me to death as he is now curled up asleep on the sofa??????? I don't think he is going to be a great deal of help. I can see me doing a lot more for myself than I had expected . That might not be a bad thing though as I will just have to cope.

@Fairydell Please don't start trying to look after yourself this early on. A take-a-way might be an idea for the first night or two and then start planning your days early with him so he has time to digest what is expected. They don't typically realize dinner needs preparing and jump up to get on with it. I don't mean for this to sound nasty or ungrateful but you almost have to lay out the day with many men like you would with a toddler. (eg., maybe you could go to the shop this morning, I will need some help doing A, B & C and then if you can make this for dinner, I can be available to answer questions. Almost hold their hands.
Our loved ones do stress about us being unwell too and might be feeling quite overtired from it all now that you are home safe.
I told Klassy a few months ago that my husband has some weird kind of Munchausens where if I mention I think I have a cold, he immediately starts reciting symptoms he is convinced he had before I said a word. He makes me totally nuts with it. Well... guess what he had the morning of April 4th??!!!.... Sore hips!!! :rotfl: Oddly, he is not selfish and not a whiner but this is some weird oddity about him. Ok, VERY weird oddity about him!!

Sometimes we unconsciously expect people to read our minds, or assume that they see something because it's by obvious to us. I'm slowly learning to avoid that trap and to spell out what I need.

59billy... good idea. I think my husband has been amazing with this situation and he told me straight away to simply TELL him what I need/want. :)

Day 3

Oh boy, getting a post done is a challenge, I keep nodding off! I managed to sleep about 90 minutes between medication doses all night so woke up a little brighter and better able to cope. I also realized they were very clear about me dropping my Tylenol #3 because they have me on extra strength Tylenol but didn't tell me to drop my Tramadol so I took half of a long acting tablet. It has taken that horrible sharpness and burning off my pain that I was finding impossible to cope with.

My morning started out much like yesterday with coffee in bed with hubby after a trip to the potty.. Then out to the chair but today I promptly fell asleep again

I have gone back and forth to the potty 3 or 4 times so far today and on my last trip did the little loop through the kitchen to give my legs a bit better stretch. That only adds about 10-12 feet but in a few days I can start double loops once or twice a day. My thigh feels quite tight front and back. They said I would feel that as my op leg has gained a full inch. So I was walking the little loop with a heel/toe movement just to give my leg the lightest little stretch. When I first get up, my op leg often won't move at all. Like I'm knocking but my leg isn't getting the message from my brain. So I take a short step with my good leg and then pull my op leg forward using my pajama pants to catch up, repeat. If I do that about 6/8 times and am by then off the rug and onto the wood floor, everything kicks in.

You're doing well. @Carriemay60 I'll worry when I see your crazy sense of humor drop off.
I'll tell you, this group of April hippy's provide some great comic relief!

I hope your swelling starts easing so you feel more relieved.
Wishing you comfort and a few cozy naps today.

It does sound like progress. Make the most of those naps.

I’m laughing about your husband and his Munchausens tendencies. Are you ever tempted to make up some weird symptoms to see what happens?

Good day. Feeling a bit irritable but happy. It's people things that are irritating me like my sister wanting to chit chat about family nonsense or having to repeat myself when I'm not heard. Need to take a chill pill. It is obvious to all of us here that I am moving a little easier and the constant low groan we could hear seems to have fixed itself (no idea if that was the furnace? :))

Also feeling emotional on & off about all the love & support I am getting at home and here. It's quite humbling. My appetite seems to be drifting down a bit so might do a day of bits & bites tomorrow including some fruit and yogurt, wine & Brie without the wine, etc.

We are supposed to be in for a very nice day tomorrow so very hopeful I will be able to sit out on the porch for an hour or two and as Layla did today, air the house out.

I think you're right on schedule for the irritableness, think mine was around the same time. It's so hard when you're healing and you just want everything to be easy right now!!

Sounds like things are getting better every day though so try and keep positive, I bet when you look back even in 1 week you'll see such a huge difference!

Hope today is a Good Day.
Back to the grind for me today but I'll be sending good vibes your way.
When I first get up, my op leg often won't move at all. Like I'm knocking but my leg isn't getting the message from my brain.
Perfect Description for my right leg which had the log leg syndrome going on.
It just didn't "connect " with my brain for a few weeks.
Once up and walking...no noticeable difference but it definitely held a grudge and ignored me at times.

A bits and bites day is a good description. In my early days I would take to bed ( which I didn't share) a platter of dried fruit and nuts and other treats to snack on round the clock. After we moved the bed back upstairs we thought for a moment we had super rats leaving giant droppings before we realised it was a prune under it.

I hope you get the promised good weather to get some fresh air.

PS no connection intended between the prune incident and the pleasure of fresh air.

@Rhiannon89 and @SE Florida The thing is, I know I am expecting too much sometimes. I have caught myself thinking about the steps I want to describe while doing a transfer or something but don't always voice it - yet I seem to expect that they know what I thought! :heehee: Log leg is definitely an issue for me so especially getting in and out of bed is a challenge so the guys help lift my legs. Getting up especially because there is generally some urgency to get to the potty.

59billy... good idea. I think my husband has been amazing with this situation and he told me straight away to simply TELL him what I need/want. :)

I am fed up already of hearing me ask Tony to do things for me... Please could you get me jug of water... please could you put it on the little side table...it would be helpful if I could reach the little table. Please could I have a sandwich. He has already mastered the 'eye roll'..... The house is split level and if I could master steps with my dead leg I would just go and do it myself.

Day 4 - morning

So I slept last night, and slept and slept some more! I had help at 2am with getting up for a little stretch, meds and bathroom. Then had my alarm set for 4am for my "as needed" painkiller because I had found skipping it was not the best. I know my alarm went off for 4am but I must have turned it off and didn't take my meds. I should have been due for more meds at 6am including my heavier pain killer, etc. but of course I hadn't been awake at 4am to re-set the alarm. My husband got up about 5 or so thinking I had taken meds at 4 so left me sleeping until 8 when he decided 4 hours was plenty between doses. He woke me up and we realized I had slept for 6 hours with no meds. A bit rushed to the bathroom, took meds and silently screamed for my ice so all settled down now. I think it means I can skip those "as needed" meds if I am sleeping comfortably. All in all, no harm done. I may try to walk just a little more today to help with these stiff, tight muscles by doing that extra 10 feet or so everytime I go to the bathroom. When I got in my chair this morning, I could feel quite a noticeable swelling in my lower tushy. Peter said it was also visible when walking behind me  I took a peek in the mirror last night and couldn't see any visible signs of bruising but I am sure it is coming eventually.

Whilst sleeping, I had a dream that my husband was having an affair with some unidentifiable woman in a little box so he'll be in trouble for the remainder of the day!
