THR Hippity Doo Dah!<

I am here. I won't say much right now
Reminiscent of my first days.
I had a member who was having BTHR who was awaiting my emergence worth baited breath...:holysheep: I was afraid to post honestly.
Early days are not a good representation of how the bulk of recovery will be...thankfully!
Certainly worth the trauma and the drama
This too shall pass...:friends:

This will all seem like a blur soon and you'll be happy dancing before you know it. So glad to hear they were able to get your Meds going and you were able to rest. Happy that you will be heading home today, get lots of rest and keep the ice coming!

Glad to see you on this side and doing well. It sounds like they are working hard to help you keep pain under control and I agree that you will be glad to get home. It just feels more relaxing there. Keep using lots of ice!!

Thanks for your update. Sorry the first 24 hours were so painful and uncomfortable. Hope you get to go home soon. That will be better to be in your own space. Keep us posted and sending you lots of strength and pain relief.

Until I woke up! I could talk so asked if they knew I was awake. I could hear some banging about. I could feel some pressure and tugging but no pain at all. He said they were just finishing but asked me if I wanted to go back under, I said yes and I was gone again.

Shiver me timbers! :yikes: I've heard this before and am never any less shocked.
Safe travels home. Let us know how you're doing once you're settled in and resting comfortably.
Hugs

Hi @Carriemay60 I have been watching for you. Glad to see you in recovery. We can compare notes and encourage one another through all the milestones. I am having to put a leg brace to stop my knee from buckling but it keeps sliding down. The collapsing knee is worrying me quite a bit but they seem to think it will get better as my muscles get stronger. Hope you have a nice relaxing weekend..

Same thing happened to me during my LTHR but they wouldn't give me more anaesthesia! I did manage to sleep again though.

I should add a note so that members seeing this don't panic. It is very rare to wake up during a procedure. The anaesthetist is watching you the whole time and will keep you under. You will meet the anaesthetist before going to surgery so just discuss any concerns you have then. I did this prior to my second THR and slept through it all.

Yes, I did the same on my first RTHR... but it wasn’t so much awake as aware... the anaesthetist saw & told me a joke while putting more sedation in.. gone again! At no time did I feel pain or scared..

Home about an hour. Very tiring and got shivering in the cold, misty weather. The biggest thing was when I got up the path and looked at our four stairs, I swear they looked like they had all grown 12 inches each!! Halfway up, I had to remind myself I had nowhere to go but up, lol :egypdance: I have been able to feel myself relaxing in my chair and my butt pain is noticeably less. (at least 3 points less already) My bed there was horribly firm. Food was atrocious but hubby and son brought me hot sausage rolls, peaches, hot apple pie for breakfast this morning. Tonight they are making a comfort food of mine; a bit like a homemade hamburger helper.

Plastic bag for getting in and out of the car was a huge help!!! And for those you still waiting, go very slow getting the leg in. :driver:

I agree 100% with these notes from @Jaycey & @Hoppy Nanny. I almost felt a bit removed from it all but not like I was looking down at myself either. I had been clear with my anaesthetists prior to surgery (yes I got 2 cute guys!) and when I opened my eyes they were both right there and I hardly had to open my mouth before I could see them quietly helping. One rubbed my shoulder :) I almost backed out of the spinal and sedation at the last minute but the OS really preferred it and while the anaesthetists to go general if I wanted it, they explained everything carefully, promised to listen to how I wanted it to go and I feel they honoured that 100%. I am SO happy I went the route I did. No sickness, nausea, grogginess. I would now take some convincing to go with a general.

Thank you all again for continued well wishes, they really mean so much :loveshwr:

So very glad you are home and got up those huge steps @Carriemay60...[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I’m going to complain... you got TWO cute guys!!! Spoilt!!

Take it easy... the first few days are a learning curve of what you will & will not be able to do...

Sounds like you will be ok on the food front..

Wishing you a peaceful, pain free weekend... take it easy!!! xxxx

Hello @Carriemay60 , I have been on the road so late in sending my best wishes. Thanks for updating even through pain because so many on here are anxious to hear. It sounds very good apart from the painful start. A bed wetting experience is not great but on the positive side saves you from the intervention required if you were at the other extreme ie no output.

I hope you’ll be home soon, dry and high on some super effective pharmaceuticals. Wishing you a restful time.

So happy to hear that you are home and have your family tending to you @Carriemay60 ! Just go easy and remember we're all here to support you. I hope you have a nice evening back at home and do well overnight as well. One day at a time!

Those first few steps home do feel like climbing a mountain. Glad you are home and being well looked after by the sound of it. I remember “helping” with the cooking after a few weeks sitting up at a table and prepping vegetables. It made me feel part of life again. Don’t be worried about taking the strong painkillers for now - it all helps. You will be on your way now!

Glad you are now back home @Carriemay60
Everyone is frightened of steps at home but once you conquer them you realise that it isn't so bad after all.
Anyway, you managed and are now safe from them for a while.
Glad that your family are feeding you up but don't be surprised if you lose our appetite either. I came out of each op ravenous but a couple of days later couldn't face anything except tiny, tiny portions. If it happens to you don't worry it too will pass.
Now it's just rest and patience that you need.
Wishing you well

Hi @Carriemay60. So very pleased to hear you are home and being so well looked after. Hope you got some sleep (you have a lot to catch up on) and that you are resting comfortably. You must be so relieved that the surgery is over and done with. And I agree, spinals are great! Wishing you a peaceful and comfortable weekend. x
