@copsham next time you make that clementine cake we want pictures :snork:

Yeah, 5 weeks post op is a good place to be. Yes lots of hard work ahead but the reward of seeing those little accomplishments is a real motivater.

Now I would have took that walk down your country lane with a big slice of that clementine cake in my hand :)

I've never had that kind of cake but I bet the house must smell so good during baking.

Hi Jeff

Popped back in to see how you are doing and you are now packing two replacement hips glad you eventually got the other one done and are feeling ok. Take care and try and not rush things relax and let the healing begin :thumb:

Thanks Jeff.....it certainly helps to know what to expect on surgery day. Funny - one minute I'm at peace and 5 minutes later I'm in tears....

My tears flowed very easily post op and still do!!but just think of it either as a release of emotions or a release of toxins. I just think of it as my roller coaster lots of bone smarties are on the roller coaster. Enjoy!

@mydog this week is gonna feel like it's going in slow motion because of over thinking everything.

There has got to be at least 1,000 of us members who will walk with you all the way.

We all did it and so can you.

Most of us had worse fears then you.

I'm gonna keep saying it every day
Your gonna be fine and your gonna do great

Thank you Jeff. Oh my goodness...I just realized I joined Bonesmart last April....this journey has been almost a year in the making!

@mydog tomorrow evening all of that nagging pain will be gone. As a matter of fact tomorrow evening your physical therapist will pay you a visit just hours after your surgery and have you stand and take a few steps.
I hope you have a nice river view like I had.

You should be getting your phone call today with your surgery time.

You see how quick this week flew by

Same thing with the surgery.

Good luck tomorrow

Thank you. Just got my call and have to be at hospital at 7:45. Sister on her way to my house now. I am going to order her a wonderful dinner from a Latin place near me and we'll eat together (me with my low residual diet of a baked potato :)) and watch movies....

Two weeks post op for me and starting to make that turning point.

The last 3 days slept through the night with no meds. And last night was the first night I slept without being hooked up to the cold therapy machine.

No more cushion under my bum at the dining room table

Just finished 30 minutes on stationary bike.

I'm not gonna go crazy but it sure feels good to be more and more active.

Looks like our friend mydog made over to the other side yesterday.
We were all just as scared as her, but I tell you this, imagine doing it without BoneSmart. I'm positive that I probably would have not had the courage.
Another Hippie was born on 02/27/15 and her name is Sheila

@2 for Jeff, you are so correct with regards to "where would we be without Bone Smart" ! The support and information here is priceless. I think of all the "little" questions and the " big" ones too, that I would either forget or be embarrassed to ask my surgeon, but I could ask here on Bone Smart and find them answered.

Nume, Jeff totally agree bonesmart is a fantastic site which helps and gives outstanding support from everyone and that includes you pair

Jeff - fyi several folks at hss remembered you -mentioned you quite a bit. They all sent regards for a speedy recovery - !

@mydog I remember everyone who took care of me at HSS. I admire what they do. No matter what job tittle, they all play a part in us getting better.

They all come to work with smiles on their faces and help us through one of the scariest times of our life.

I told all of them one day I will be part of their team. Even if I just do volunteer work. I will meet and greet all future Hippies.

Hi Jeff - just checking into see how you are doing.....

I love the thought of you doing volunteer work at hss, greeting and helping out future and newbie hippies. Yes, it is amazing that everyone you meet at that hospital is so helpful and does so with a smile...

Hi everyone, here's a little update on my recovery.

Today is 1 month post-op and I just got home from the Emergency Room.
Last week when my daughter came home from school she was vomiting all over the house and she told me 3 of her class mates went home early for vomiting in class. Well 2 days went by and Chloe was fine but I wasn't.
I got so sick with a stomach virus last week and I thought I beat it, but last night I vomited all through the night.
(At least 30 times my tells me)
This morning I could nearly lift my head from the pillow.
I went to the ER and they put me on an I.V. And gave me some Zofran for the vomiting. They checked everything and said it looks like you caught a nasty little bug (virus) and I have to let it run its course. I was very dehydrated and they ended up giving me 2 bags of the I.V.
Just laying in bed now resting up and taking stuff for nausea and diarrhea.

I didn't want to mention it but besides vomiting, it came out the other end just as bad.
I did want to drop a few pounds but not like this.

Anyway my recovery:

I stopped all pain meds including Tylonol on March 5th

Raised toilet seat and cold therapy machine packed up and put away

Walking with such beautiful long strides and always looking around for a mirror to see where my limp has gone.

Sleeping on both sides now

Just started my out patient PT and my leg muscles are still very weak

I'm almost able to squat all the way to the ground to pick something up.
(This is what I need to do before going back to work) I'm almost there

So far I had to cancel 2 PT sessions because of stomach virus

Post Op with surgeon next Monday

Things were going pretty good until stomach virus hit me.

When your that sick I didn't even want to take my blood pressure medicine and all of the other meds that my surgeon put me on but I'm gonna take them now this way Josephine don't yell at me

I hope all my other friends out there are doing okay.

Bye for now.....,.Jeff

Wow Jeff - that sounds like you had one serious virus....I hope you are on the mend now. Your hip recovery sounds so amazing though! Not even Tylenol!!??! It must feel wonderful to walk with such a beautifully long stride! Congratulations on such an awesome recovery and continued successful healing!

Hi Jeffrey,

I am a bit behind you but when, last week , I put away all of the "disability aids" I felt I was starting a new chapter. No more raised toilet seats, grabbers, sticks/canes etc. No more medication. Life exists beyond hip replacement!!!

I feel really lucky to be at this place and I am eternally grateful for Bonesmart

(I did have a blip yesterday - went to physio - wound a bit red - she suggested the on call doctor look at it - on call doctor ignorant and rude - threw me back to the feeling of vulnerability and lack of control of the early days BUT overall what a relief to be really, really on the mend)

Hope you and your famely are all better from your dramatic virus

X

Gosh @2 for Jeff , sounds like a very nasty virus. Hope things are better for you today. Your recovery has been amazing. Well done!
