THR Hawai'i Healing Hipster

I 'Googled' how to choose the correct height :banghead: cane. @MammaT Perhaps this is one time where not being short will be useful. I want a wooden one to paint a design similar to some tattoos I have appreciated. And a lightweight aluminium to fold up and carry.:old:

You are talented, no way would I be painting a design. If we have to use them, we might as well rock them @AgilityDog. I’m just not up to shopping yet.

Thanks @MammaT . Not sure about the talent. It seems like most people have tattoos on Oahu. My grandson's swimming teachers have nice ink running from ankle to hip. As if up the seam in jeans. Maybe an inch wide, but probably a little less. I have been searching Pinterest for designs. I will keep you posted

I forgot to tell you, I have a Fitbit. :walking: I can check my steps because an impartial 3rd party is keeping track. I may not have walked Exactly the number of steps Fitbit shows, but it uses the same criteria all the time. My numbers have increased a little bit every day for the last several days. :running:

Got my Fitbit out now that I am moving onto cane. Doesn’t track walker steps well. Going in and adjusting daily goal way down from presurgery. Increasing slowly every day is the way to go, and ok if occasionally you have fewer.

Glad your log leg is leaving @AgilityDog. As I’ve said, not much of it this time but last hip I thought it would never leave.

I'm not using the walker much around the house. We are going to Goodwill for a cane after I shower. So far, I look at my steps at the end of the day, and I am surprised. The steps are more than I expected. I think I am doing a good job of taking it easy. I'm glad that you are happy with your recovery. Log leg is more likely to appear about 5PM. But I am so thankful that it is not complete wood. Closer to kindling now.

@MammaT and @AgilityDog Fitbit? Which one. I have been considering getting another one...Gary has taken my last two...mostly because I was discouraged because it was so hard and painful to walk. I saw one on QVC I liked and it can be a bracelet or necklace. I think (not sure) it would be incentive to walk more. I a gimping around here without my cane for the most part. I have some muscle pain but expect that.

I have the Charge 2. I like many of the features. :running: :upright::walking: I checked to make certain that it was compatible with my phone. I purchased a stainless band from a 3rd party. I also have some what I think are called covers. They help protect the Fitbit. :alarm::swim:There is a new one that you can wear swimming. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

You sound like you are doing very well...I knew you would. There will be bumps on this journey but we'll worth it.
Hope you have a great day.

I have the Alta @Poodles. Don’t think it does all of the stuff the charge does. Links with Iphone and computer and my fitness pal app, which I use to track meals. I can download data and use for points in employer wellness program snd get discount on insurance premium I pay. Order either through the Fitbit site or amazon. It is a good reminder for me, especially when walking normally!

:hi: Hi AD,
Glad to hear your friend log leg is pulling the disappearing act.....Yay!
Hope you found a cane to decorate yesterday.
Enjoy your Sunday!
@AgilityDog

@MammaT and @AgilityDog I ordered the Alta from Amazon this morning along with two stainless bands in different colors. The Alta arrives tomorrow...yea? I say that with a question mark because I worry I will get discouraged quickly, not having lots of steps...but I will improve every day. Heaven only knows Isaac and I have lots of places to walk at work and it will be nice to take a break and move during the day. Lately, I get there, plant myself in my office and only trek off to the bathroom which is a couple hundred steps away. :walking:

Snowing here. Sigh. I was just going to take off my winter tires. I guess not, we seem to be getting winter here finally. It's been an easy winter.

Hey @Poodles, don’t disrespect those couple of hundred steps. Right after surgery that would have felt like miles! It’s those smaller, reasonable trips that get us moving. Set your daily goal for something reasonable once you see what you average.

@MammaT I have been setting my phone alarm every hour during the day to get up and get moving...I see this will vibrate and remind me to get up. That will be excellent!

Yes, I really like that feature on my fitbit ai without it, I might sit at my desk for a few hours and it feels much better if I get up and stretch for a few minutes every hour or so.

I'm excited for you @Poodles . I'm guessing the Alta attaches to the band the same 'way' mine does. Easy Peasy. I haven't set a goal for my steps yet. I've found that it is easy to overdo! I made chocolate chip cookie dough and went to Goodwill for a cane yesterday. That was over the top.

Did you find a cane @AgilityDog? At least if you overdid it, it’s was for a mobility device and cookies-both essential to healing. Friend who is excellent baker sent me a batch o snicker doodles (one of my favories). Have been telling myself since I am early in recovery, I burn extra calories so they are ok to eat.
