I believe that Breg is one of the brands. I guess there are options in regard to manual vs automatic, as well as flow rates, etc. There are a couple of other brands that have similar products. A lot of people swear by an ice machine. I just used ice packs from Colpac (https://tinyurl.com/oweknyx). Others have used traditional ice packs, and others even packages of frozen vegetables.

I have a question hoping somebody can help me. I am looking at a Breg Polar Care cube machine is this the right one everyone is talking about, I found it on Breg site and its cheaper than amazon. Figure it would be a good investment as will have to get my other knee done too
Did you include shipping when you checked prices?

I have 12*18 cold therapy packs that I wrap around.

@msmechanic58 I did not get that machine it said not to use if diabetic which I am, so Bought a wrap that goes all around the knee from Amazon and free shipping. It was a little pricey but had excellant reviews so I got it. Thanks for the help :dancy::snork:

I bought the two therapy gels pads from Amazon. Love the free 2 day shipping. :) I'd rather shop there than any where else.

@madinana My husband was put on an ice machine at the hospital and we brought it home (charged to insurance). We leave it in the bedroom and use gel icepacks in the other rooms. I bought a couple new dishtowels to go between his scar and the ice (no bandage on his knee) so that we aren't putting germs near the scar.

@tiredwife once again thank you for all the help. I hope your husband is having a better day today. The wedding was fun but so hard sitting for a bit or standing. I think I am looking forward to knee replacement and not looking forward to it :yikes::prayer::dancy:

@madinana He is back to pain level 2 and 3, and he has a fresh piece of strawberry rubarb pie w/ vanilla icecream in his tummy so all is right with the world!:yay: His pain is actually less than pre-surgery now.

You are going into this surgery prepared and that is half the battle. Knowing what you are facing, will make you more able to face the ups and downs. For now put your feet up and try to relax.

@madinana one more hint, if your cane is a straight one (without the feet) you can turn it around and use the handle to hook the arch of your foot to move your leg around. It helps with the straight leg raises too.

@madinana Glad I can be of help. Practice with the cane now and you will see how well it helps. My husband even showed the way he uses it to help straighten and stretch his leg to his PT and she liked it a lot.

@madinana I think I am drawn to you because you look like a combination of 2 of my friends. Yes, I think we would be visiting each other.
I made him stuffed porkchops for father's day dinner. Trying to keep him from loosing weight too fast (common with pain meds)- he has no appitite.

Madinana, If I may ask what Hospital will you be using. I'm in the Elmira/ Corning area, They use the Cryo-cuff machine. They told me that I will be using this right after surgery and will be taking it home with me. The hospital supplies it and charges insurance. It is one thing that I don't have to worry about getting. I know about 10 people that has TKR's at different hospitals in the area and they all went home with the Cryo-cuff. You may want to check with your OS to see if they deal with getting you set up with one.

@mark2667 I am going to Arnot. I have class coming up this week on joint replacement. I dont see my OS in a few weeks. So will ask then. But I have been preparing as much as I can. Who are you going to Guthrie?

Madinana, that's too funny I'm going to Arnot also. My OS is Dr. Gibson and he told me about the Cryo-cuff. So maybe we will see each other.

@mark2667 my OS is Dr Bowman, I just saw that you go the day before me :rotfl: you are getting both done, oh my I went for one even though they wanted to both. I wonder if they will be giving me one, hmmmmmm:shrug:

@madinana My husband said to tell you to trim your toenails right before surgery, it may be a long time before you can reach them. I think that was a hint for me to trim his toenails:heehee:.

@tiredwife I read that and :rotfl: how sweet even thinks about me. You tell him I will do as don't think I would be bending over after surgery to do it. I think it might have been a hint, and after you do that you just might need this :martini: and this :bath: Be sure to tell him thank you for the tip :yay:

@madinana LOL, I told him and he giggled (half asleep). I did his toenails - they were almost deadly weapons!:yikes:

I very well might do this:martini: later today, but that would make him sad:bawl:because he can't have any of his bourbon until he is off percoset.

Do you have a walk-in shower or just a tub? If a tub you might want to install grab bars or get one of those attachments that fit on side of the tub. We got the attachment and it works good, and a shower chair.

@tiredwife we just have the tub. what are the attachment for tub? I was wondering if I needed a shower chair, is that because you can't stand long in the tub. I just about have everything in a bag for when in hospital for a few days. I am terrible I do not like to wait until the last minute. What kind of shower chair did he get?
