@Gretel hey good morning (afternoon for you!)
How has your day been today? have you managed to get more practice with your crutches?
I know at one point you didn't want to be in rehab but hopefully it's paying off for you.
You really have been through the 'mill' as we say (though time) i admire all that you are doing I seriously could not imagine having both hips done at the same time! Keep positive and focused on that end result... walking your 5 dogs blissfully pain free ;0)
Thinking of you

Thank you @Welshgirl. My day has been pretty good :) I'm on crutches from now. They are more tiring than the walker.
The doctor just popped in to see me and yes I can go home on Saturday. Yay!
How are you feeling?

Thats great news @Gretel I'm so excited for you :0)
Still a couple of days away which will give you more time to get super confident on those crutches!
I know it must be hard for you in rehab but try and make the most of the care and attention which will make you even stronger for when you are home xxx

I've just posted my 'roller coaster' of a ride.... yesterday amazing... today not good :0( I really didn't expect any of this to be honest! I really shouldn't complain when I know what you are going through x

However in no time at all we will be running around like we used to... have to focus on that thought... right :0)
Sending yo big hugs from across the world keep smiling :0)

Hey @Gretel. My stupid phone wouldn't late get on bonesmart til late yesterday (database error...something) I only know enough about technology to be dangerous.
Anyway, it resolved. Honestly, I was going to go home in my little Toyota but bucked seats were so uncomfortable prior to surgery, I opted to get in brother in laws truck. Not the best idea, I'm short it's tall. Me and hubby and an inside grip and all the strength I could muster to stay off those legs. And had to move my one log leg that didn't want to cooperate as I did alot first weeks. Making it get into bed etc. I did slide sideways in and out of vehicles.
You think there are things you can not do but when you get home you work it out. Slow and aggravating, but hey, what else did I have to do. Mine was a manual recliner and I lived in it as was easier to make legs go where they needed to be, up and down you know.
Maybe I encouraged the stool softeners too much...:chinstroke:. But oh my stars ...5 days of constipation after surgery was the worst! I was so happy to report in my thread that I had finally gone.
You are going to figure out what works...and what worked for me might not work for you.
My guess is when you get home, you will be anxious but feel better too. I worried about the burden on my hubby too, but it is what we do for who we love.
Thinking of you add I will soon be off to work. So proud you are on your way to happier days .:yes!:

Thanks I'm looking forward to my own bed :) SIL suggested their car cause it's higher but I'm a shortie. I've had no trouble with hubby's car so will stick with I I think.

Hi @Gretel
I'm so happy that you now have a discharge date. Only a couple days now and you'll
be home, settling in. I'll bet you really notice progress once your in the comfort
and privacy of your own home. I hope you had a good day today. It's morning here
but late evening there, you may already be sleeping.
Best wishes for your last couple days in rehab.....hope they fly by.
Hugs!

It's currently 2.36 am and I'm still awake. I kept nodding off early but kept waking up do now sleep evades me. Waaaaaa! Been to the toilet a couple of times, sat up for a bit. Now trying mindless tellie.

I ended up dozing for maybe an hour and a half. Woke up really uncomfortable and was going to try one endone but nurse talked me into two. Hopefully I'll soon be asleep!

Wow - a marathon hospital stay. Hope you have everything sorted with your pain management. Saturday can't come soon enough!

Thanks Jacey. Yes I went from hospital to rehab. Doctor wanted me to having the bilateral. Rehab wanted me to stay one or two weeks or so.... I decided this is enough. Trouble is I'm not sleeping unless I'm drugged up on pain meds. I'm hoping once I'm home that will improve.

I didn't sleep all night for a month...hope that doesn't distress you. Went to bed, woke up few hours later...walked around gingerly for ten minutes to get kinks out and get drink and bathroom, got in recliner , slept in recliner for 3 or four hours, get up, eat breakfast, stay awake for 3-4 hours, take hour nap, get up walk around, eat lunch, take hour or two nap, etc. Meds and ice all with that. It got continuously better after that. Just think you should realize alot of us, not just bilaterals, did not do regular sleeping hours. Hardly any I can think of. That's why all the naps. Only can be comfy laying down so long. Only comfy sitting up so long...etc.
Trying to help you be realistic. Not necessarily bad thing, just super annoying.
Add soon as you get home things will feel tolerable. I really think so.
This IS the tough part.
I feel you girl...wish I could show you how much better I am. Hang in there. Love and healing wishes I send to you.

Thank you :) I think I'll be more comfy at home. I've got the recliner there. Sleeping on my back has always been a problem for me even without all the other.
I was nearly nodding off just now when I heard the lunch trolley. It can be so noisy here!

Same for the back sleeping. That's why I loved my recliner so much. Just a few days now...

@Gretel Hey my bilateral buddy. All those little naps add up to rest.
When you aren't too doped up you can review my initial whiny posts post op.
See how it progressed.
I was going through much the same as you.
Fast forward today, did a ten hour work day, walked a zillion miles, was annoyed approximately ten times by volunteers, clients, and the general public...ate chicken nachos and am kicked out in recovery recliner with sore thighs...and NO bad hips.
Gonna happen for you one day. I'm rooting for you!:happyfeet:
