Bilateral THR Gretel post op<

Gretel.
You will be fine.
I promise.
It might not feel like that now but things will be significantly better in a day or 2.
These earlier days after getting 2 hips done are challenging cos you don't have a "good" leg to anchor you.
Your body has had a traumatic experience in the past 48hrs and will need a bit of time to come to terms.
Eat.
Sleep.
Medicate.
Walk a little.
You will get there.
Joe.....

@Gretel Wanted to stop by and wish you continued success in your recovery. Hoping that the things you are dealing with will soon be a distant memory and that you will soon be well on your way. Wishing you a restful pain controlled day.

Thank you @Irish Joe . I've been struggling. I seem to need more meds than I think I do.

Hi @Gretel, my anesthetist told me to take everything offered so I have and came home with 5 boxes of tablets. I hope you feel a bit better tomorrow.

Thanks. I've just had more endone and not getting up till it kicks in a bit more. I think I felt good initially and didn't realise how much I needed it then I walked 4 short walks and some exercises. Was too much for me :(

Stay AHEAD of the pain. Tell them you want to stay ahead. Once it kicks in it is too long to wait. Keep posting here, good and bad. We all need to know what it is we are going through. Not easy! NOT. So worth it.
Get through it, eat meds, drink drink, drink, ICE and pee. Cry and survive.
Before I could think, it occurs to me...shaky, hurting, mad, sad, did I do right?
Hey...for all this pain, my HIPS don't hurt.
It's all post op pain, NOT hip pain. This WILL get better, the hip pain just got worse.
Hard to see now, but will come. Try not to worry...
Mantra...only temporary...good days to come.:elevate:

Thanks @Mojo333 the trouble is the endone makes me really nauseous and puts me to sleep. I did a small walk but told physio the barre exercises are too much for me.

I hope you're feeling a little better @Gretel
Hang in there....your days will get brighter.
Prayers they get your pain under control so you can get some quality rest.

I only had one hip done so I'm afraid I can't quite relate but I can assure you that things will, start to get better starting right away. After one week, you will be able to look back and see some improvements and the same each week for a while. It is amazing how quickly our bodies start to heal. Although it all seems overwhelming right now, it will quickly improve. Just try to,stay ahead of the pain and be sure to take the meds they give you, even when you get home. Then remember to rest, ice and elevate. Don't hesitate to take lots of naps as your body needs lots and lots of rest to heal. Sending positive, healing thoughts your way...

Thank you all. I really appreciate the kind words and support :) I've had some wonderful visitors today too and I'm well medicated but not feeling sick just now yippee!

I never did get which approach you had done..anterior - posterior?
I'm glad family came and that cheered you!
I hope this weekend you are able to settle in and feel all will be better slowly but it is going to be so worth it.
:dogwalk:

Sorry @Mojo333 lot of pain shaking now. Wounds on sides

What do they contribute all the shaking to...pain med side effects? Or just because you are hurting so much.
I remember having shakes but mostly when up trying to move. Are you cold? Need to ice regardless even if ten blankets on top ...
Hope you can drop off to sleep...

Anterior approachsounds like. .. they stretch those muscles and tendons around to get those new hips I'm guessing so your body has been assaulted. Hope you can relax.

Hi @Gretel
It's great to hear you handled visitors well, that's always a mood lifter!
Prayers you get the rest you need today with some well controlled pain.
Hang in there.....it will get better.

I think shaking can be an after effect of the general anesthesia @Mojo333

@Gretel Your main goal is to get your pain meds sorted as soon as possible. Staying ahead of the pain and taking those meds around the clock as prescribed means more mobility.

Don't be pressured to do any PT or exercises. Your body has suffer major trauma. It's OK to rest - you need it!

Early days for you but things will quickly improve! Hang in there!

The physio gave me a couple of pages of what the surgeon wants me to be doing. After my reaction he has agreed with me that I'm not ready yet to be standing on operated legs so not doing those. He wants me sitting in a chair for all meals and most of the day. I'm too exhausted for that!

Hi @Gretel, the good thing once you are home is that the Dr/physio can’t see where you are sitting! You have done so well to get to this point and there is no rush to achieve anything. I have had a mixture of bed, recliner and dining chair today but found the latter a bit hard for my posterior incision.

Well done to my fellow Fab 4th’er!

@Gretel! Yay! You did it! I know EXACTLY how you feel. My blood pressure was all over the place, I peed every hour on the hour for a long time after the catheter was removed. I was so exhausted I insisted on a bed side potty overnight so I didn’t have to walk to the bathroom. Whenever I got up I got shaky because I was having to bare most of my weight on my arms. My heart rate skyrocketed and they made me wear a heart monitor. It showed nothing except an increase when I had to move around.

I got home yesterday and feel much much better here. Keep up the good work. I promise you that you will be so much happier in a few weeks. This shall pass soon enough. Ice, rest, medicate! You are stronger than you know!
