Bilateral THR Gretel post op<

@tyorke1 I had bilateral hip replacements. I’ve been to the pool again this morning. Can’t recommend it enough if you’re a water lover and surgeon okays it. I so enjoy being in the water.

@Gretel, I guess it's already Wednesday where you are and so you can officially celebrate 8 weeks! The swimming sounds lovely and next on my list. Keep up the good work and you will be up and (almost) running by Christmas.

Thanks @EmEm happy eight weeks to you too!
I’m still struggling with walking far or standing for long but the walking in the pool was the easiest it’s been yesterday :) Getting there slowly.

Good idea balancing them out! I find I have to give myself easy days after very busy ones in my regular, non-recovery life.

Hi @Gretel I envy you going in the pool to exercise I will have to join a gym again in the new year to do some swimming as it's a too cold now to swim in our pool or sea! Before the operation I used to go down to the beach nearly every day to exercise. I found swimming uncomfortable so would go in deep up to my shoulders and walk. It felt wonderful as there was no weight pressure on my hip and I still had a wonderful work out.
Sounds as though you are coming on leaps and bounds, I know you feel like it's a slow process but you will get there and will be running around in no time.
 Have a wonderful day

Ah, @Gretel , I'm actually a little envious of you being able to go to the pool. We have a pool in the apartment complex where I live, but obviously, at just over 2 weeks out, I'll be confined to longingly stare at the pool for a while. :bignono:

You’ll get there @Susan209. @Welshgirl how wonderful to be able to go to the beach regularly! I’m doing well in the water but not able to walk or stand any longer than I could :( I’ve actually booked a mobility scooter at the shopping centre next week so I can try to get some Christmas shopping done. I tried walking, pushing a trolley yesterday but didn’t last long and didn’t find anything.

You'll get there @Gretel
I think you're doing great! Looking back...think how far you've come.
And both hips at once. Hats off to you!!

Just two months Gretel girl. You are a double whammy mammy and you are doing great. Patience.
Healing hugs your way:friends:

Thanks @Layla and @Mojo333. I so appreciate that you girls are here supporting and encouraging me :curtsey:
Feeling a bit despondent. My back is really not happy. It seems it was much happier with me sleeping (or rather not sleeping) on my back. Since I’ve been managing to sleep on my side a bit more my back is worsening. I’m thinking I might need to see a physio. I’m not thrilled with the one I was seeing so wondering how to find a good one.

Ugh I'm so sorry. I so relate to the woes of not sleeping, while on your back....so I can imagine your frustration being able to finally side sleep but then have back pain from it. It's a no-win situation!!!! I'm not sure what to suggest....maybe a pillow behind your back when on your side as more support? I still am in such awe of you and your double hr. I just can't even fathom it. Big hugs!!!!

Thanks @danabanana I’ve been sleeping sort of rolled on to my body pillow. Probably not quite my old sleeping position yet but the back pain is coming back like I used to have. It had been so good

Awww that's the pits! Seriously! I feel your despondency. I would feel the same. I still can't get comfortable beyond 5 Min's on my side no matter what or how much I pad. Ugh!!!!

I get it Gretel. Been working about my SI joint and back pain. Going to GP for regularly scheduled appointment to inquire about osteopath or chiropractor.
My problem was the sleep thing too. Told you couldn't sleep comfortably on my side at all for 4 months and back was not liking it either. The under the knees support did help some but hard to sleep feeling affixed like that...
Let you know if I get any insight.
Mine did get better as my gait and stance straightened out and I got more mobile for longer periods.
But that only can come with time...not pushing.
Long road but don't lose hope. :tada:

I think we all want to just get back to normal, whatever that might be. Having to rely on a walker, cane or other aids just isn’t what we planned on. However, when you actually think about what your body went through - bones cut, replacement joints put in, etc - (and you had TWO done) it is no wonder that you tire after a short time. It is only two months and this whole thing can take something like a year (and maybe more as I forget timeframe) to heal completely. Try to focus on the fact that you no longer have the OA pain and then muster up every bit of patience you can find (which is easier to say than it is to do). You will get there to where you want to be but it does take some time. Plus we all recover st different rates for various reasons. Hang in there and you will make it!! :yes!::loveshwr:

Thanks. @GrannyC even using aids I can’t walk far. I realised last night I’m walking not as far as I was. Hubby is telling me it’s cause I’m doing other stuff. Could it be that? @Mojo333 can you remember how long you could comfortably stand or walk at this stage? I’m nearly out of anti inflammatories so made a doctors appointment this afternoon. And I’ll try to get in to a physio soon to see about my back. I’m quite distressed about how I’m feeling just now and went to bed in tears last night. Sorry to be such a sook. I’m just tired of pain.

Hi @Gretel, I'm sorry you are feeling down at the moment. Today I haven't been for a walk but have done a lot of minor household tasks and feel exhausted with a tired, tight hip so your husband may be right. I'm looking forward to going to bed now!
