Bilateral THR Grateful Double Hippy

Hi @Mojo333. Hope you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving! Checking in with a few folks to say hello. I thought of you and how busy you must have been at the food bank. Hope all is well with you.

@birder So nice to hear from you?
Yes, super busy...but good.
How about you? That new hip treating you right, I hope.
Wishing you a super Sunday.

Coming up on 7 months post op.
I feel grateful and revived.
Thanks to my surgeon and the Bonesmart way, my recovery is remarkable in my estimation.
My ailing father is retiring this week and though I hadn't counted on a career at the local food bank, I am managing it almost single handedly with little support from an ambivalent board of directors. The people who express their gratitude for our existence is the only thing that keeps me there honestly, it sure ain't the money!
As the holidays approach, I daily remind myself that even though along with the thankful folks, there are the ungrateful ones, the slothful ones, the leeches who come out to suck the resources from the truly needy and the ones that are in need mostly due to their own poor choices and vices.
Do we not help those who suffer even if they play there own part in it?
Do we find joy in seeing people "get what they deserve"?
It is hard to reset everyday and not become jaded when you deal with it day in and day out.
But I see it happen to many that have had a part in our charity and other organizations.
Pray I never lose sight of the mission due to the many uncomfortable examples of humanity.
Pray I don't get so jaded or full of my own righteousness that I do not serve with joy at the opportunity to do so, rather than a sense of responsibility.
Pray that these hips carry me through and when all is not perfect...I can remember how far I've come.

Hi @Mojo333
I'm sorry about your dad. I read something you posted elsewhere that he is dealing with heart issues. Hopefully a pacemaker will help. It's wonderful your hubby is so involved and willing to take your dad to apts etc. That has to be comforting to you.

While the work and time you put into the food bank may feel thankless, frustrating and unfulfilling at times, you are providing a necessity to many needy people. There will always be freeloaders, people who cheat the system, people who are takers but never givers and those who are just too lazy to help themselves. My first instinct is to think "Karma is a B" but then I realize as irritating as their actions can be they will eventually get what they deserve. Just not in "our time". I have to ask myself daily in certain situations WWJD and I'll tell you many times I mentally stomp my foot thinking "But, I DON'T WANT TO be nice, or forgiving, or accepting" etc. It can be hard!! You're in a business where you are reminded of human self-centeredness daily. I do believe you are where you should be, as all happens for a purpose. I'll bet you realize this too. So keep doing what you're doing, even though difficult at times. You've been a lifesaver for many and I believe you will receive abundant blessings for all you do. Keep the faith!

Wishing you a fulfilling day at work!

Doctors appointment for Dad reveals now his afib has been resolved, don't see his issues are in need of pacemaker. Might be more of pulmonary issue as he also has COPD.
Main problem is he won't take a break, in fact he overextends himself and then when can't follow through...I am trying to work it all out.
Don't work with your family.
Glad we have had some close time, but hard to make decisions when he is still trying to handle it all. His memory is getting terrible so ever day is a SURPRISE to what my schedule will be. Oh well...

Great news on your dad's afib.
I'll bet it's hard for your dad to hang up his hat after so many years. My heart goes out to him @Mojo333
I'm sorry his involment creates fires for you to extinguish.
I have worked with family, on both sides. I found it easier to work with mine.
Typical I guess. Easier to make excuses for our loved ones behaviors or shortcomings lol!
It's too bad you can't point your dad into the direction of something else that would
occupy his time and allow him to feel fulfilled.
Best wishes that all falls into place.

Oh @Mojo333 so sorry to hear about your dad's health and the impact it has on you. You already are a bright shining star in a world with so much negativity and yes basically a fair amount of badness and sadness in it. These days it's the goodness of people like who stand out and make us all think, sadly, it's not the bad things that surprise us any more, but when we hear of the goodness of people we are just so glad. Hope I'm making sense with this. You live and work from the heart, please don't ever stop this. Your posts have helped so many, and BS is just one part of your life. When your earlier post mentioned the 'uncomfortable examples of humanity' it just brings home how valuable your work is.
Hope you can share many more good times with your dad, and have some 'Jodi time' too. And enjoy those new hips!
And on a TOTALLY lighter note, when I found BS, I will never forget giggling over those posts from you about hairy legs and big knickers. Wishing you well.

Thanks @Tomgirl and Layla for a boost exactly when I needed it.
It it's exactly YOU shining stars of humanity that remind me that there is alot of Good in this world...if you just choose to see it.
I'm humbled I'd I have given anyone an ounce of the comfort and support I've received here.
We were put here on this earth for one another. Happy to be a part.
You too Mags...

Hi @Mojo333 - so your Dad won't stop-guess you come by your spirit honest! It is sad when our parents start slowing down. My mother bravely fought two bouts with breast cancer. Luckily her mind remains fairly stable, but the ravages on her body and loss of mobility were so disheartening. I still think of the times she would need assistance and I felt like I was being pulled in 50 directions. I rather miss those times, because at least then I had her. It seems he raised a strong daughter and you will make it through. Sometimes I just agreed with mom, and then afterwards did what should be done . . . Will keep you in prayers. Agree with others--you are so helpful here.

As are you, MammaT. And if course you exactly right...I get very frustrated but then I think ...is this the "thing" I want to make an issue and then something happens to him and I am left with it.
When I look at it like that, I am able to concede and get on with it.
Tonight is a surprise reception for his retirement/birthday put on by food bank and united way members ...he thinks he is giving a talk, but honestly not sure if he will be flattered or feel like he's being railroaded....
We will see...thanks for the encouragement ALL.

Love him Mojo, it's the wisest and best thing you can do, you'll never regret it.
Honor him for who he was and who he is now.
Applaud him for what's he's done over the years for the food bank and countless needy people.
Help him find occupation in something else that will fulfill him.
Reflect on his length of days, not knowing how many he has left.
Realize he was once someone's baby, an infant someone loved and nurtured into becoming the man he is.
Prayers going up that a wonderful time is had tonight by you, your Dad and all who are attending this surprise reception for his retirement / birthday.
Wishing you a wonderful day

Hope you have a great evening for your dad. Enjoy every moment. My dad died 5 years ago, my mum 9 years ago. Still miss them so much. My dad could annoy the whatsit out of me at times, but he was a great dad, and when i think of him now he always makes me smile which I love him for. Special times and yes cake is essential.

@Mojo333 your doing God’s work. Yes it seems the users can overshadow the needy. But you are still touching the system abusers without seeing it. It’s just the way you are.
My father died In my arms some 31 years ago. Cancer took him. It was vary hard for us to live together to the end. We never had a good relationship. You get pulled in different directions and struggle to make the right choices. Sounds like your stubbornness comes from your dad. That’s a good thing. My best to you and your father.:thumb:

Reception was amazing. Fudge cake from new bakery in town was really the best I've ever had. Had two pieces.
Dad decided on his last official day at Food Bank to take truck and trailer to neighboring county chicken plant and pick up 3500 lbs, like 10,000 cans , of canned chicken that had took be hand unloaded into wax boxes and brought into storage room. Without a heads up to me, so myself and a volunteer and two poor Morman missionaries that showed up at the wrong time spent two hours past closing racing the sun to get in.
I love him but I was not sure I was ready to celebrate him by the time I raced home and got a shower:gaah:
Jeez.
Dad was completely surprised and overwhelmed...so many came to honor him. He does deserve it...he has put so much time and resources into what was once a tiny food pantry and is now a valuable resource for the county.
Pretty easy decision for me when I do intakes for alot of the clients who don't allocate their resources properly...if they have children.
They certainly can't help what their parents do....
Overdoing it is still certainly possible even at 7 months out...I can now attest. My legs feel like punching bags this morning.
Glad it's Friday!

Enjoy your Friday. In defense of Dad, he didn't know the surprise was planed when he came up with his last hurrah. So many people will benefit this holiday season and beyond. You are right, the kids can't help what the children do. I work for a large public agency, and we see this. We keep our focus on those truly in need-and the kids. Fudge cake sounds delicious!. Of course, this week I am getting off what I gained during Thanksgiving weekend so not cake until Christmas!

In defense of Dad, he didn't know the surprise was planed when he came up with his last hurrah
YES I KNOW. Jeez, MammaT...you aren't supposed to be pragmatic while I'm busy griping.
:groan:
Hope your day is lovely. :) :-) (:
