Bilateral THR Grateful Double Hippy

Thank you so much MyAussieGirl. Leaving my sisters this weekend and going back to my home. My sister's home had ALOT of helpful things like a step in shower, very open floor plan but I've been here for going on 3 weeks. Need to get the cane. Hope all is well with you!!!

Weird numbness and stinging this morning as I'm trying to come out of my "just getting up and everything has drawn up again" stage. Anxiety has gotten hold of me this morning... How will I do when I get home this weekend? Im just ready to be well...I know, I know...not a Sprint... It's a marathon.

Hi Mojo.
If you don't have anyone to help at home it can be a little difficult. But you will manage just fine.
Set yourself up with a "Nest".
I had my recliner in the kitchen in front of the telly. Tray set up beside it with books, remote, snacks (healthy) and all the things that make life easier at hands reach.
Stock the larder and fridge with easy to prepare food.
Also take it easy with the housework. If it doesn't get done today it will be there tomorrow or the next day etc etc.
You'll be fine and a lot less anxious when you settle in.
Joe.......

Thanks Joe. Good advice. After I've been up for a while, my mobility is much better so I think I'll be fine. I've been stretching times out between pain meds now and feel better better every day. Can't say I want sleeping when you first told me how much improved I would see... Bilateral felt like the wrong thing to do the first 2 weeks and since I knew you had done it, I wanted to believe you.

Good luck as you head home this weekend, Mojo. I think you will do just fine need if you are by yourself at this point. You can get around ok so you can get things to eat and you have everyone here at BoneSmart to chat with if you get lonesome or bored . If you can get a cane, that does help give you some stability as you walk without the walker. I'm not sure how the cane works with bilateral but it seems like IrishJoe told you he alternated hands with the cane which sounded like a good idea so you don't favor one side over the other. You will do just fine.

Thanks GrannyC. Yea, I do need y'all. (Oops, my southern fell out). I feel antsy and teary for some reason today. I'm not that 'fragile' normally but I know that better the medicine and the frustrations of recovery... It's probably just screwed up emotional stuff.

*between the meds and recovery...
Obviously autocorrect still doing it's thing

@Jaycey per usual, I've been directed to content that is very helpful on this site. I'm beginning to kinda hate the fact that it's hard to say 'but you don't know how I feel' on this site...:groan:

Well I am certain we don't know exactly how you feel. Everyone is different! I didn't have BTHR so I am sure that's a whole new set of feelings. But there are plenty of us who fully understand the panic, frustration and impatience this recovery brings.

I remember feeling very vulnerable when I was discharged from the hospital after both THRs. You are booted out sometimes with little or no information or expectations for recovery. I guess that's what this site is all about!

@Mojo333.
Hope all goes well at home. Try to not get too down hearted if you can. 3 weeks is still very early in recovery ( there he goes again I hear you say) for Bi-Lateral. I struggled quite a bit with my emotions during recovery. I found that getting out for a little walk in the fresh air helped a bit. Its ok to be not ok if you know what I mean.
Keep on Keeping on Mojo.
Joe......

Of course Jaycey you know I was being a little fascitious...I so much appreciate the support. I really just have been in kind of a self absorbed mean feeling funk... But I think , as we all should, recovering joint replacement patients or not, we should never forget to be grateful. Grateful for modern medical technology... Grateful for an opportunity to get better... Grateful for supportive family and friends... Grateful for an online community that will guide us

Thanks IrishJoe, I just went for a quick still and sir down on the porch, little warm- 89F but it does make me feel better to get out of this house!!!

*Quick STROLL...SIT down in the porch

Hang in there @Mojo333 you are doing so well. It really is a big deal and you just have to listen to your body and go with it. I got into quite a funk around 3,weeks at the slowness of it all. I decided to look at my progress weekly and it made all the difference. Each week you will see some progress and suddenly at 6 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks things are very different. Getting outside made a huge difference to my mood even if it was for short periods and getting some proper sleep (which does come eventually) helps massively too.
Keep coming here for a bit of moral support - you are with a group of people who really understand how you feel.
Take care,
Sam xxxx

Whatever. I really can spell...by myself. Give a hour some medication and a small screen...and the strangest things pop out. @sammylou99 I have been on here long enough to know this but it is oh so nice to have some that have been there reiterate that it will get better

Not a great night, again. But good day so far. Walking some, icing some. Still dealing with some bathroom issues. Got where I figure I just won't eat solid food, but it's amazing that soup and grapes and water can turn into stones. I am still taking stools softener and guess until I went off opiates, will be somewhat of issue. My shoulders ache, my feet tingle, my butt is sore, my legs ache, and my new hips are great! Yay?????

Packed up and heading home. Back to my life...
