Hello BoneSmarties,

It's almost 3 am and I got up to get a drink of water and decided to check in and say hello because I havent posted in a couple of days. Now why in the world would I do something ike that at 3 am??

Probably because I can:)

I really don't think I will have any problem going back to sleep because I am yawning already. Thank goodness the insomnia that was plaguing me a few weeks ago has passed and I am getting enough sleep...usually. This 3 am thing is just a false alarm:))

Here's wishing you all a peaceful holiday!

Love,

Dori

Hi Bonesmarties,

I had my first session with the trainer at the gym today and I think it went well. She was very careful and deliberate with what she asked me to do and we didn't over do anything. We did a couple of different elliptical machines, some nice hamstring, quad, and shin stretches, upper body exercises. One thing that was challenging was the upright stationary bike because I have been using the recumbent. But I adjusted the seat height and just pushed thru the first couple of rotations (no pain) and then I was able to do the rest with no problem. It felt great.

So I have been icing and elevating and resting this afternoon. Hopefully I won't have any many side effects. I will let you know.:thumb:

That is a great report! It sounds like you have found an excellent PT who is understanding of your needs and is also gentle!

Please keep us informed as to how your are progressing!

Thanks Tim,

My operated knee is now my "Good" knee and the other knee struggles at times. So I am hoping to develop more balance and stability as well as overall muscle toning and some cardio. Let's face it, I just need to get back in shape after many years of dealing with arthritis. So this is the next right step until I get a second surgery date. Thanks for your encouraging words!

Good morning Dori

Well done on your trip to the gym :thumb: It sure does feel good to get back to exercising those muscles that have been ignored for years - I know the feeling!! When do you anticipate on having the other knee done?

I have been out of the loop here for quite a few days due to Easter and I'm trying to catch up with everyone - I can't believe how many new folks are now on the forum.

Have a good day Dori :thumb:

Hi Jo,

We've missed you but certainly understand that there is a lot of catching up to do now that we can get around again. My next ortho appt is Jun 19th and hopefully I will get a surgery date then. I'll be sure to let you know!

Dori....you are doing so well and I'm happy to read your updates!!! Go get 'em, girl!!!:thumb:

Jamie,

It felt so good to be back in the gym again! Today I am a little sore, but in a good way. My knee didn't swell and I am so relieved about that.

I agree Dori things are finally turning around in your favour, and long may that last. Well done on your gym work, just dont overdo please. :friends:

Thank you all for you cheers of encouragement!! I'm really concentrating on not over-doing it at the gym. I don't want to experience another setback. My knee is still so "new" and I intend to give it all the time it needs to heal completely. But it IS healing and I can discern that in little ways and big ways. It doesn't swell up at the drop of a hat for one thing.

This morning I vacumned my swmming pool, all by myself. To do so, I had to get into a kneeling position in order to insert the vacumn hose in the suction portal. I was able to put just the tiniest pressure on my new knee, balancing the rest of my body weight between my arms and my other knee. I know it soundss awkward, but I got 'er done!

I rejoice in every little bit of progress and independence that I am able to make. Yesterday I went to the cinema and that was a Huge pleasure for me. I sat on the very first row that has wheelchair access so that I could stretch my legs all the way out if i needed to. It was a long movie (Titanic in 3D) and I also popped in for a minute to see Titans. I did just fine, which lets me know that now I am able to sit in the spa chair long enough to get that pedicure I have been dreaming of getting!!

Dori,

Happy to see you enjoying your new life. I hope that things just keep getting better and better for you. Yes there really is light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi Dori
Good for you getting to the movies - wonderful pleasures to enjoy again! Many more to come with our new knees. Yay, get your toenails painted!!! I remember seeing your lovely painted toenails in a picture you posted. I must get mine done but I don't feel we have the weather just yet for my feet to be exposed :th_heehee:

Speaking of pedicure, while I was waiting for the op, I trimmed my own toenails. I did such a bad job that I ended up with an infected ingrown toenail about 12 dys before my op. talk about panic! Fortunately, the podiatrist took care of it and the toe clearnd up in a few days. As much as i dreaded the op, i dreaded a postponement even more!

No more home pedicures until I can bend my knees properly.

Enjoy that pedicure, Dori.

Jo. Get those toes painted and let hubby admire!

I'm not what you'd call a "girly girl". I'm not fancy, I don't like spending a lot of time in hair salons, I don't shop for leisure, and all that. But I do enjoy a pampering pedicure. It's good for my spirits and my health. Because weekends are just ridiculously crowded in the nail salons, I will wait until everybody goes back to work on Monday. I think I will paint them Lavender just to try something different:)

I keep banging my toe into the shower bench in my bathroom because unless I pull the shower curtain back, I forget it's there and I walk into the bathroom and BAM! So one of my toes is tender and it ached this morning when I was walking in the park. I hope I haven't fractured it. If so, maybe I will claim my future pedicures as a medical expense:biggrin:

Hi Everybody,

My personal challenge this week is to keep my right foot pointed forward with each step that I take. I never noticed until I began working with the trainer that I tend to point my foot "out" when I walk. Apparently I began doing this to compensate for pain during the arthritis

Also, I am beginning to notice more deformity in the leg that still needs the TKR, especially when I compare it with the operated leg. It also is very painful when I walk sometimes. My new knee feels great. The other one hurts.

Today I drove approximately 125 miles! I had to drive into the city to the district clerk's office (64 miles round trip) and from there I had lunch in the park with a friend and strolled thru the museum of natural science. It was splendid afternoon! Then I drove back home, stopping by the store to pick up a few groceries, and put some gas in my car.

I'm back home but I'm too pooped to get the garbage can off the curb right now. So now I am am about to ice and elevate a bit, just to be on the safe side. If I'm lucky, I'll drift off to sleep for a few hours. I have an appointment with my trainer again tomorrow and I want my knee to be ready for a good workout.
