Hi Dori and Randi
When we Brits say jumper we mean an item of clothing usually made of wool, waist length, with a V or round neck and long sleeves and you wear it over a shirt. Do you call it a jersey or pullover?
Of course Jo might have meant bungee jumper too!

:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: I am sorry I should have said sweater/ pullover to my Canadian and American friends. I love the bungee jumper reference :th_heehee:

That's funny. We call that garment a pullover sweater and I have several in various fabrics ranging from wool to light knits. Jumpers are the sleeveless dress I mentioned earlier that is worn with a long (or short) sleeved blouse underneath.

Jo, I can't get over that image of you Bungee Jumping!:loll:

I think we call your "jumpers" tank tops though for the life of me I can't think why they are called that!! Men and women wear them!!:th_heehee:

Take care Dori, and Jo be careful when bungee jumping!! :friends:

We call tank tops the little light-weight sleevess cotton tops usually with spaghetti straps that are worn by women in the summer time. Sometimes they have built-in bras for extra support. Are you familiar with the garment I am describing??

Like you, I have no earthly idea why they are called tank tops.

Yes Dori, I know exactly what you are describing and we call them vests - different again to you :snork: It is so funny all the different names we all use for clothes and garments. My husband commented on the word jumper - he said it is a really silly name and we pondered on where in earth it came from???

Thanks Grandygirl, the photo was taken on my engagement day on my 18th birthday, 50 years ago now. I still feel the same, still with my beloved hubby, and looking forward to our 50th wedding anniversary in 3 years time, and also celebrating our 70th birthdays, that will be a month/year to remember!!!:dancy:

In the meantime there is so much to be grateful for, 2 lovely sons and daughter-in-laws, 6 wonderful grandchildren 3 boys and 3 girls from 26 years down to 5 years old, and up until my TKR great health, I guess as you get older something has to give eh!

It seems like we all have great family ties and I wouldn't have it any other way. My favourite quote is "grandchildren are God's way of conpensation for growing old" and in our case that is certainly true.

Take care and have a lovely Easter over there, you too Jo. :friends:

Aretha,

You are indeed blessed among women! It's so interesting how no matter how old we get, we still remain young at heart where true love is concerned. Congratulations on your upcoming 50th anniversary!

And here's wishing you and all my friends here on the forum a blessed Easter. It's my favorite holiday.

It is funny and I think it's great. I love the little nuances of different cultures. It's one of the reason I love travel. It certainly expands the mind.

As I mentioned, we also have a garment that is called a Jumper. Also one called a Jumpsuit which is a onepiece garment that has the pants and top all in one piece...usually it zips up the front or side and it's challenging to get out of quickly when you have to go to the loo:blush:

Happy Easter and Much Love to you and your family over the Easter holiday Jo.

Dori

Well thanks for all the cultural wardrobe updates ! Goes to show that we have much to learn from each other about many things beyond these knees of our !

Happy Easter to all -and happy Passover to those celebrating that one, too . This year Passover begins on Good Friday so we can all celebrate together !:cocktail:

Why are they called tank tops? From Wikipedia:

The name tank top, recorded in English since 1968, is derived from its resemblance to a tank suit, a style of one-piece women's swimsuit with shoulder straps. Its name derives from the 1920s term swimming tank, which is an obsolete term for what is now called a swimming pool.

My my my....how interesting!

Thank you Jamie. You have gone above and beyond your duties as administrator, but it's fun and I sincerely appreciate this tidbit of knowledge:biggrin:

After my walk in the park today, I got in my car and drove the path I'd just walked to mark the distance on my odometer. I was surprised that it was 0.8 miles. I could have gone further but was trying to take it easy on my knee. So I am very encouraged. I used to walk 3 miles every morning and perhaps I will be able to do that again on day soon. I think I can! My new knee was very strong and it didn't swell or hurt afterwards. In fact, it seemed to get more comfortable the longer I walked. My other knee was a little bothersome, but hopefully I will be given a surgery date to fix that soon.:thumb:

Hi Dori
That is a good distance you are walking and how great to be able to say the knee felt very strong - I had that same feeling yesterday. Isn't it great that we can use the word STRONG again when referring to our knee :thumb:

Hi Dori

That is really great news! You are slowly building up the distance and there is no reason not to be back to three miles in time. I got a bit carried away last week and did a bit much again so I have been resting and icing again!

I got an App called Distance for my iPad which measures how far you walk. It's really simple- you just trace your finger over your route and it tells you how far!

Hi Diney,

Thanks for the info re the app for the iPhone I will get it put on mine. And please all of you take it easy on how far you go and don't push yourselves at this stage you don't want any setbacks as you have all come so far in such a short time.

Take care, Happy Easter...:friends:

Thanks for the info about the app for the Iphone. I don't have an Iphone yet but I can probably download it to my android thingy...

And thank you for the important reminder not to push it too hard. I certainly do not want another unpleasant setback so I will heed that advise.

Guess what......I am sleeping again without the help of any sleeping aids!!!!! I am hoping that the insomnia phase is over but even if this is only a reprieve, I am so happy that I am sleeping thru the night easily again. You told me the insomnia would pass and I think it has. Yippee!!!:sleep:

Dori

Hi Dori
Great news that you are sleeping well again :thumb: I was very lucky as I haven't had one bad night - quite unbelievable with all things considered! My hubby has always said I could sleep through anything :snork:

Hi Dori, I was just reading your post to Diney and it made me smile . Its funny how as we progress through this recovery and grow in knowledge and understanding of whats happening to us that we begin to give to others the same advice that was given to us in the early stages. The student becomes the teacher :th_heehee:.

Glad you're doing so well. :cat-kittyandsmiley:Judy
