TKR GrandyGirl's Recovery Story 1/14/12

It's a beautiful spring day here in Houston, TX today. I drove to "my" park this morning with my Sunday paper and a cup of coffee. I read the entire paper and then walked for a little while in the park. I could have gone further but I didn't want my knee to get tempermental again and swell up.

Afterwards I stopped by the store for a few items and now I am back home and will probably take a nap for a little while. It's a good day.

Ahhh, c'est la vie, n'cest pas?

Yes, it was a good weekend. My goal today is to do some spring cleaning. I am taking it slow and taking lots of breaks in between tasks but I'm making progress. It takes a lot longer than usual, but little by little, (and to be honest with you, my heart really isn't in it) but it needs to be done and so it will be. I'm happy to be able to do things that I could not do before, but it would be great to have a housekeeper on a beautiful spring day like today. Oh well, c'est la vie:)

:sigh:

Sounds like a perfect weekend, and very soon you will be doing all the housekeeping things without a thought or a care in the world Dori.

Take care..

Hello Aretha,

I haven't heard from you in a while. I hope all in well on your end of the rainbow.

Well, needless to say, I didn't get everything done yesterday but I did quite a bit and things are looking brighter and more organized around here.

What's really tough for me these days is the insomnia. I toss and turn a lot during the night. Sometimes I take a sleep aid and get a good night's sleep but I try not to do that every night. Unisom really seems to do the trick. But on the nights I don't take a sleep aid, it's hit and miss. I woke up at 5 am this morning after another rather fitfull night and couldn't go back to sleep. So I gave up and decided to turn my computer on.

I trust that this too shall pass because others on the forum have said that they have experienced the same thing and it was temporary. Nevertheless, Insomnia makes me sad.

The poolman repaired the grids and the pump on my pool today and already the water is turning blue again! In a couple of days, the water will be crystal clear. Now maybe now I can begin to do my aquatherapy right in my own backyard....since i STILL have not made it to the gym pool yet.

No more excuses!

That will be a day to celebrate Dori. I just love the water.

I am a bit hit and miss at present with my postings, February/March are bad months for me with my hayfever, something to do with the trees opening their new foilage affects me badly, and I get dreadful hayfever which seems to go on for weeks, and I feel a bit down sometimes. We are also part way through renovations on our bungalow, and everything is in such a mess so trying to keep my spirits up and think positively all the time.

You are making great progress, and I follow your recovery thread all the time, its so great to read from the start how many of us Bonesmarties gradually recover through all the trials and tribulations of sleep deprivation, worrying about ROM and flexion, gripes with the pain and getting the medication right, how fantastic icing is, and never enough rest with elevation, but finally the penny drops, and we all come through this marvellous process with our lives back, painfree and well worth living again. Its a grand feeling isn't it!!:dancy:

Hi Dori
I'm so jealous that you have your own pool to slip into, how wonderful :thumb: As you say no excuses for you :wink1:

Aretha - hope you can get your hay fever under control and your renovations :thumb:

Thanks for the good wishes Jo, we fellow Brits have to stick together. I am about to ring Hills and see how she is. We went to the funeral, which was more a celebration of Joy's life, as she was 93 and went suddenly so she hadn't been ill at all, had all her faculties, and it was just God's time for her to go to him, so we sat and ate and drank and remenisced with friends about past outings, and what fun we had had. Since then Hills has gone very quiet, but I guess she is now back at work and getting on with her life, but I will catch up with her today if I can.

The weather here has been perfect for a while, so trying to be busy in my greenhouse planting out seeds into the trays, and general tidying up, although with the extension works going on, we resemble part building site, and part Kew Gardens with all the plants in tubs that we fetched with us pushed into the back half of the garden. Its gonna be a fun summer!!!

The pollen here was the worst I've seen in quite a while. It left a mess everywhere, all over the windshields, covered the pool with these brown stringy things, it was everywhere. Everybody was sneezing and crying. But I think it is settling down now. Pretty soon we'll be complaining about the scorching heat. It gets so hot here in the summertime.

So I am enjoying springtime. And you are right Jo...I have no more excuse but knowing me, I may come up with an original one or two :dancy:

Well, here in Toronto the seasons seem to be changing every day. Last week we had 2 days of 26C, about 80 +F, yesterday it was just above freezing and today it was 19C..and tomorrow back to just above freezing - our plants and animals are all mixed up and everybody is confused about what to wear ! For me, as long as we don't see any snow :skeptical:, it's all okay - though I sure like the warm days better.

I, thankfully, have never had issues with pollen. The only thing that I am allergic to, according to some, is hard work...:biggrin:

Thats not a bad thing to be allergic to Tim, so continue to enjoy your relaxation, and just continue to be thankful that you do not have allergic reactions. I am suffering so badly with hayfever symptoms, and now a chest infection, so taking pescription steroids and feeling very sorry for myself, but determined to stay in the garden and greenhouse and do as much as I can!!.

Easter is just around the corner, so just wanted to say a very Happy Easter to everyone on this forum, and stay well and happy everyone - life is good and painfree for most of us!

I just got back from my walk in the park. I try to go a little further each time. I can definitely tell that my new knee is as strong as can be. My other knee, which still needs a replacement, is very wobbly and unstable. But it's hanging in there and we're making it happen.

So now I am going to sit outside for a while and read a little bit. It rained this morning, so it's nice and cool. Aretha, I hope your allergies settle down and you get some relief real soon!

Y'all have a gr8 day!

Dori,
It is so good to read your posts. I am glad you are doing so well. Your posts have always inspired me. I too am a little envious of that backyard pool, but I hate to be seen in a swim suit so I would need a really tall fence!!

Happy Easter, Dori...continue to enjoy your new knee and your wonderful walks in the park.

Hey Luvtocamp, How's your recovery coming along?? You've been quiet as a church mouse or maybe I am just missing your posts. It's so good to hear a word from you!

I do have a tall fence in my backyard and lots of big trees. So if one of my neighbors is nosey enough (or bored enough) to peek over into my backyard to get a glimpse of me in my swimsuit, i can promise you, it is not a pretty sight and they get exactly what they DESERVE! :hysterical:

Actually I feel less self-conscious in my backyard that I do trapsing around the pool area at the gym. Some of those people are really buffed and toned and after years of gimping around, I am NOT. So I am very happy and blessed to have my own pool. I had it built when my kids were young and it added such a wonderful element to our summer vacations. I have such great memories of them and their friends splashing around all day. Now that they are grown with kids of their own, it's Adult Swim 24/7 and I love it!!

Hi Dori
That was so funny :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical: I had a good laugh reading your post :loll:

How are you doing my friend - I hope your knee is behaving and do you still have nice weather to enjoy your pool? The weather has changed here and it has gone back to feeling chilly again - I have had to wear a jumper today :sigh: Have a good weekend :thumb:

Jo -excuse my ignorance please - but what do you mean by a "jumper" ?

Hi Randi,

Jo will let you know for sure, but I think that what she means by "jumper" is the kind of sleeveless dress garment that you wear a blouse underneath. That's what I used to call a Jumper.

Now of course, it is quite possible that Jo is referring to a Bungee Jumper since she is doing such a fantastic job in her recovery. Come to think of it, that makes more sense....Wheeeee!
