@plnppl The bourbon is an occasional thing. We had such high hopes after his 6 hours monday night! Just a little disappointed. We think it might be because Monday he did the eleptical machine and both thighs are really hurting, it was quite a workout. We still have some flexeril so I might have him take one tonight. You have a great day.

@H2OPoloMom Glad the spray helped some! My husband's knee still gets warm after activity too, but not as much now.

My appointment went well. He is very pleased with my progress, and really wants me to push to get that last degree or to on my extension. I told him that I hadn't taken any Percocet since yesterday and he offered tramodol as a step down. I told him no, but all I have to do is call if I change my mind. He also told me that stopping the narcotics is like a reset on the sleep issue, so I will probably have more trouble the next few weeks as my body adjusts. The tramodol would smooth that transition but extend it. I figured that I may as well tear that band aid quick so it's less of a problem when I go back to school. It definitely explains the trouble I had sleeping last night. He really liked my solarcaine solution and is planning to share with his other patients:).

I can drive as well, but I still had my son drive me today because it was such a busy morning that I didn't want to be too tired the first time out. I'm hoping for a nap soon, but expect a phone call soon. Lucky me, I had my first mammogram 2 days before surgery, and had to go back because they found a suspected cyst. So I went back for an ultrasound and the cyst has some odd properties, so they wanted me to get it aspirated. Well, my TKR PUT THAT OFF FOR 6 weeks, but now it's time. I did get a scrip for an antibiotic today, so I'm covered there. I'm not really worried about the procedure, mostly feeling inconvenienced as cysts are usually no big deal and I have no family history.

My kids are cleaning today:egypdance:, and I've given up on planning dinner since we'll number anywhere between 3 and 8. I've decided that pizza will be a good solution.

Are you grilling the chicken? I love grilled chicken! Actually, most meat tastes better grilled. I've even been seen grilling in January and February on those rare days above freezing here:wink:

@H2OPoloMom Probably just bread it and frying it because we will have our grandson and that is how he likes his. We often grill it and my husband make a white sauce for it. We prefer grilling in the colder months. To hot today - in the 90s. We usually go camping on Thanksgiving and grill the turkey breast after he does a brine soak on it. It may be chilly but us and our friends have the campground to ourselves.

Just got back from my first drive in 6 weeks! The hardest part- getting in on the wrong side of the car:rotfl:. I had to squeeze and hold my breath to get in; my car is now in the middle of the garage so I can get in and out more easily. I hope my hubby doesn't mind when he gets home.

That will be me on Wednesday @tiredwife. I have to go into school for a couple hours. My cohorts want to extend the time, and they can, but this lady has a two hour time limit, and I'm sticking to it!

@H2OPoloMom Glad you know your limits! We left the house about 9am and got home at about 1:30pm so he swelled up quite a bit. His longest outing so far.

Sounds like you are doing really well @H2OPoloMom. I would be careful just "pulling off the bandaid" and stopping the narcotics without a step down. It may be okay the first couple of days as you will still have some of the meds in your system but once they are out completely, you could be in for a rude awakening. Hope it all goes well for you though!!!

Have a great weekend!

I had gotten to a point where I was taking only one 5mg Percocet about every 6 hours, so I decided that it was time. The desire to drive the 1/2 mile or so to PT without depending on my children played a large part in my decision as well. I stopped after Tuesday mornings dose. Doing so was uncomfortable, but I don't think it was really painful. I have been taking ibuprofen and have even tried Tylenol to fill the gap. I do have plenty left if it gets bad, but I haven't been above a 3, so I've been doing okay- if my pain had hit a 4, I would have had no problem taking the meds. I still didn't actually drive until friday though because pain on the couch is different than pain in motion and I was feeling a little blue. I made it through PT fine on Wednesday and by Thursday, I put a bottle of wine in the fridge (it's still there waiting). Last night, I fell asleep at eleven and didn't get up until almost 6- I woke up a couple times, rolled over and fell back asleep! I woke up to the least amount of swelling since my surgery. Right now, it's the heat and sensitivity of the skin on my knee that are the most bothersome and neither are helped by pain meds. Two weeks ago, I would not even have considered coming off my meds, and was still counting pills before the weekend to make sure that I wouldn't runout since they can't be called in.

I hope you are doing well @71Beetle ! It must be exhausting to mentally and physically to start his whole process over at the 8 week mark. I picture that energy drain diagram and imagine your knees are like brothers fighting over what little energy you must have (my brothers were fierce). If I were a sandman, I'd visit all the BoneSmarties because I know how much sweet dreams are appreciated around here! Have a restful, sleep filled night!

I wish I had counted my pills before the weekend...I will have to get in to see my GP first thing Monday morning. My OS is on holidays until August 11th so the pharmacy cannot call him to renew. :(

Happy to hear that you are sleeping well.

@71Beetle when hubby needed narcotics it was a pain in the .....! The surgeon is in a different town and often didn't get the script written til the end of the office hours so we had to rush to get it filled before the pharmacy closed.

I switched all our prescriptions to a 24 hour pharmacy. After my last scope, I had to call after hours to get a muscle relaxer and they sent it in to a pharmacy that was closed. Kind of defeats the after hours call. It is a pain to have to pick up a paper script so frequently after a procedure like this! It seems like there should be some exception to the rules for these kind of surgeries. @71Beetle, I hope you have enough to get you through to Monday!

I wont have enough to get me through to Monday so I will take one Percocet instead of two every other dose to make them last a bit longer. It just means more ice and hopefully I can still get some rest regardless. :)
