I agree with Amy Jo, my left knee has not bothered me since I am able walk better due to my TKR, even my back is not bothering me as much...I hope you can get some rest and feel better soon

My other nonsurgical knee has stopped complaining too. Hopefully yours will too. I'm thinking it's because new surgical knee is taking more of the stress and weight like it's supposed to, evening things out.

KarriB, that was my thought too. My other thought is that they want you to walk by all their other items so that you might buy more.

Amy Jo, We sure do put a lot of extra stress on the old knee when we get the new one. I wonder how much extra? I'm guessing at least 50% more than normal. The old knee is doing pretty well I think, at 8 weeks old.

Flagranny still amazing and inspirational. I look for your posts every day as I am soon to follow you with my second knee. You have to be very tough and in good physical shape .

Flagranny, think about switching to a pharmacy with a drive in window. After eight years of bone and bone, I am an expert on how to avoid going into stores with all the standing and walking involved. Although now that you will have two good knees, this need no longer be a matter of importance for you! Amazing to think how much our lives will change.

I agree with Audrey, look for a drive thru. My pharmacy does have a drive thru. I didn't typically use this pharmacy, I usually used the grocery store pharmacy. But I came home from the hospital during a December snowstorm so my sister and I went through a drive through with my new scripts. I've stayed with it and love the drive through!

Hi Friends,
I'm off for my followup and I think I have the beginnings of a urinary infection. I had antibiotics here just in case, so I started taking them. I hope there are no complications from that. Otherwise doing about the same. Funny how just getting washed up and getting dressed this morning just wiped me out. Oh well, it will pass. Two major surgeries in 6 weeks will do that to a person. :)

I'm happy that my meds are giving me no side effects, I'm down 9 pounds since first knee was done, and knees are improving, slowly but steadily.

I found that exhaustion as well. I had two surgeries within a month, had to go to my OS twice a week for a month after the 2nd surgery, so I spent every afternoon sleeping.

Are you getting staples removed today?

I'm sorry about UTI. That alone will exhaust you. Good luck with appointment .

Totally agree with the WHY the pharmacy is so far back. I too always do drive thru pharmacy, walgreens.

You seem to be doing pretty well for 2 major surgeries so close together. Sorry about the uti, a few have mentioned that. Wonder what the common factor for that is post surgery.

Hope you are enjoying our finally cooler Florida weather.

Keep up the good healing.

NO! I came out of surgery without a catheter BUT when my bladder was not emptying to the staff's satisfaction they catherized me three or four times before I was discharged. I am convinced that is why I ended up with a UTI. I also suspect that I received too much general anesthesia which might have affected my stomach (bad nausea) and my bladder as well as my brain. I only remember a little bit from the days I was in the hospital - only the bad parts. In fact the nurses wanted to send me how with a catheter and my PCP said "no." I was very grateful.

Are you taking the same antibiotics you took for the first one? Be sure to take it for the recommended time, usually 7 to 10 days. Better yet, go to your PCP to confirm.

I did not have a catheter in the hospital. I'm just prone to UTIs.

Had my postop checkup yesterday and PA says my ROM is good. Told him about the extra pain this time. He gave me the speech - "every knee is different." I got another oxycodone prescription although I still have half of my last prescription left. It will save me another trip to the office.

As I was sitting on a bench in front of the office waiting for my hubby to bring the car around, an elderly gentleman asked if I needed help getting up and I said "no thanks, I'm just waiting for my husband with the car." He then proceeded to shock me by saying "you're a good looking woman." I thanked him, he hesitated for a moment and then walked away. :rotfl: It's the first time in many years that anyone has "hit on me."

I still cannot do a straight leg lift after 19 days - it was 8 days with the first knee. It's still painful when I walk but the constant aching is gone so I'm mostly comfortable now and sleeping better at night. I seem to be sleepy most of the time.

:yes!: You must be gorgeous (we don't have an avatar of you)! But a comment like that would've made my day! I had a hard time with leg lifts and used my leg lifter to "practice", pulling my leg/down up with arm power because my leg couldn't do it. Each day I used less and less arm strength and more leg strength.

What a great compliment to receive! That would keep me smiling for days. I hope it does the same for you.

Yes, I am smiling about it but I'm far from gorgeous. Someday I might get around to an Avatar but I really don't take pictures much. All I have are old photos and in most of them I'm 100 pounds heavier! My drivers license photo is good but much too tiny to scan and upload.

Leg lifts - for my first knee, I was suddenly able to lift my leg on the 8th day, I couldn't on the 7th day. When I try to lift it, the top of my knee (quad attachments?) is painful.

So cool being "hit on"! Beautiful inside and out with those new knees!

I've gotten the "every knee is different " speech several times. I think we're holding ourselves to a higher standard because we've been thru it before. I'm trying to remember that knee 1 is still very much in recovery.

I can do the leg lifts but the stairs are a different story. I thought my quad felt stronger today -- I'm doing plenty of walker laps, etc. But putting new knee first on that stair is terrifying, even with hubby right in front of me. It just feels like my leg is not ready to engage. I'll try again tomorrow but I may end up living upstairs .

It keeps hitting me in happy waves that we're done! I had surgery 2 on my mind ever since surgi 1. No more! We've got this. Woot!

That made me laugh out loud mamazipp! After thinking about the whole thing, I'm guessing this gentleman was a lonely widower.
