I actually have staples, hmm. I did have anterior lateral approach, don't know if that makes a difference.

My pt did notice that my knee cap was hypomobile, meaning it wasn't moving very much, probably due to my super tight quads. I think they're overworking bc everything else is turned off. I was laying there with my legs straight out and she said relax your leg and I said I am, and she said no, really relax it. That was all the relaxing she was going to get from it and apparently she was shocked at how "on" my quads were. So she started massaging areas where there were knots and it was tight, front and side of quad. It was that, hurt really bad but good feeling and then she showed me how to message my knee to get it moving. In my left knee I have to hold down the left side and then massage the right side of the knee cap with my palm. So you may want to see off you have and trigger points on your quad and rub those suckers out. Then massage around your knee, for some reason it was important to hold down the left side off knee cap. I'll see if I can find anything on the internet about it

:heehee::heehee: We are pretty worried about why April has staples and I have glue, what's up with that? And I am just posting so I can use the little doodad things that you, yes you Mheidi, taught me how to use :heehee::heehee:

April, my PT just left today saying to ice my knee and no weights or PT again til Friday. I may have the arthritis monster in my knee now. It is sore right below the kneecap on the inside of the knee and it was not sore there last week, last month, or last year. If the ice helps, then we can rule out arthritis, probably according to PT. How is your hip? We both had anterior lateral surgery. I can cross my right foot onto my left knee when sitting now with no pain :)

Yeah, I wanna know why I have staples too? Are we allowed to tag Josephine or is that a no no? And we're not talking staples/stitches that "melt" away or whatever it is, we're talking the shiny metal kind.

Hip feel good, still icing but doing much better this week then at day 3 LOL! Much more energy too. I want to cross my leg over so bad!! I'm ascared. I think I'll wait one more week. I'm a big stretcher, LOVE to stretch and I feel so tight everywhere! Went to get a massage today, mostly upper body (obviously), neck, shoulders but since I didn't plan ahead I just went to Massage Envy and took whomever was available. Big mistake, got the worst massage ever - waste of time and money! OH well.

Here's some info about the patella hypomobility thing, really hope you don't have arthritis:

:flabber: Yep, staples should come out sooner than 2.5 weeks. Ouch, hope they don't hurt :)

Oh no! I think he was vacation or something which put my preop a little later. Thx, I WAS looking forward to that appt too!

April, so tomorrow is the day to get them removed, right? Go get em done, been long enug is my two cents. All these surgeons have their own agenda and I wish they would do most things the same. They make me feel like they have something new to try on each patient. Man, what a bummer on a 'letdown' massage, that's like coming home for ice cream and someone left the freezer door open, huh. Yep, better wait another week for stretching and leg crossing, just wanted you to know it keeps getting better...

Yes, tag Josephine why would one use glue and the other use staples both having anterior lateral surgery?

@Josephine Both @waterman1 and I had anterior lateral surgery but I got staples and he had his incision glued shut. Is this normal to close an incision for the same procedure in 2 very different ways? What would be the advantage of one over the other?

@waterman1 my appt isn't until this coming Monday the 21st! Should I call his office and try to get them out sooner? I'm at 2.5 weeks right now.

April, From my experience with staples, my answer is a firm yes to making that call. Hip surgery no. 1 - I had staples on a posterior incision . When the nurse looks under the bandage and says, 'Oh, looks like you are a fast healer. We should have scheduled you in sooner', that's when you know it's gonna hurt. No local anesthesia was offered to me, either. I will stop there. Call the office and tell them you are a fast healer and it's time to get the staples out, maybe they will move up the date!!

Ok! I actually am a fast healer. I will demand a local too, especially if the skin looks over grown. Thanks for the heads up, and sparing me the details, although it would help me go into full anxiety attack mode and freak them out. Maybe they can give me some propofol to get my staples out, I'd be ok with that.

@aprilc @waterman1
From reading on here, it seems like about 2/3 have staples. Just a guess....
I think me and water were lucky to have glue. whew!

:mute:

April, Well, this website is good for something. Now you know about my 'staple removal day', you can for sure demand some local numbing. I do hope the best for you on that day, it's never as bad as imagined so hang in there. Staples aint nothin' compared to what you already have endured, right?

Major, it was nice to walk in the doc's office and watch them peel off a bandage and say 'that's it, we are done'. They did place some steristrips on me, and a few are still hanging on. No pool yet, but we are getting closer everyday. Have you found an indoor heated pool in your area yet? Well worth joining if available :)

It's nothing to do with the surgery at all, merely the surgeon's preference. There are even more ways to close a wound as you can see here Closing surgical wounds: how is it done?.

Hey there! Well I'm at the dr right now, just got my staples out, they weren't grown in, didn't hurt, yea! Now for these scabs to hurry up and fall off so I can get in the water. He said by the time I go on my beach trip in August I'll be fine to walk, ride a bike and swim - as pain permits. That's the hard part - finding those limits before you put yourself in too much pain!

Went out the other night with a friend, thought I was moving so well until I got out of the house and went out to eat and then to another pub to hear a band. Could barely shake my hips but it did feel like a sort of therapy to move them a bit :) But too much sitting, too much standing, I was sore the next day. And my friend has an Expedition - one of those HUGE Fords, let me just say that getting in and out of that was not graceful!

Knee is still not great, need my PT to rub it out my quad again, I'm trying to do it but it's not working as well as when she does it.

How are you at 4 weeks (right? - I'm one week behind you)

Glad your staples are gone!
It must have been nice to enjoy the evening out, even with some soreness the next day.
Back to living life.....
