THR Early Birthday

Mine was externally rotated pre-op and I noticed my foot still turned outward a bit Post op when I walked, It gradually went away without any effort on my part.

Per my husband, I was so obsessed about it that I was nagging my OS in Recovery on whether he corrected it, or not. OS kidded / laughed with my husband that he did try, but it was now going a little far in the other direction.

I'm sure the Nurse will offer reassurance also.

All Temporary, friend.
I told my OS at first post op appointment...the reason he set it for ten days from surgery date..is so I'd quit hating on him by then.:heehee:
I meant it then, funny now.

Healing Mojo coming your way.

Home nurse made her first visit today. I think she's going to be okay. Also learned that my insurance will only pay for one PT session, which is probably one more than I need.

Sweety and her daughter went out and got me a recliner, so I'm pretty comfortable at the moment.

One day at a time.

Oh my stars...I would've told you - not everyone agrees - say Yes to the recliner.
Was my newest bestest friend.
Nap all you can.

Sweetie sounds like a keeper!
Lucky you scoring on the recliner, you must not be too bad a guy after all :heehee:
You're going to love it, I'll bet.
Happy Healing and sweet dreams!

A few relationship things:
Wednesday evening I was already in bed, asked sweety to bring me my daily warfarin and a Percocet. She brought a single 2mg pill. Told here I was pretty sure it was supposed to be 5 until the home nurse adjusted the dose. She was adamant that she'd read the discharge papers and that it was 2. Okay, whatever.

Next morning, I looked and saw that it was 5. I felt like I had to point out the error. She was really upset that she'd messed that up. It became even more clear to me that the whole thing is more stressful to her than to me. As bedtime approached, I made to ask her if she'd feel abandoned if I slept in the recliner. She had to think for a minute, but was okay with it.

Brought her coffee this morning, took my coffee to my recliner. She came out to join me, and a good time was had by all.

The point I'm trying to make is this: this recovery thing can be as hard on our mates as it is on us. That is easy to forget, because I just had an operation!!! Self-pity and selfcenterness can take over if we let it. Or maybe that's just me.

59billy- excellent point of view. I gave my husband a gift certificate for golf as a thank you and acknowledgement that this has been stressful for him too We’re fortunate to have these people in our lives and appreciate them. Good luck with your recovery:)

No, billy, it's not just you. It is stressful for our partners. I don't think they like to see us in a weakend state.
It also gives us a taste of what our future may hold, should one have to care for the other.

I know you realize her screw up on the meds was an honest mistake. Suddenly our partners are thrown into being our nurse maid / caregiver and try to do their best. Once you're comfortable enough, and it will be soon, insist she get out of the house for a breather. At least for an hour, maybe even longer if you feel comfortable. I did this with my husband and others have also. They need a break from the 24/7 caregiver role thrust upon them.
She'll come back feeling refreshed.

Amazing and thoughtful that you made and brought her coffee. You're only 3 days post op! Take note of where you are in recovery this weekend. Then one week later look at the progress you've made, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Before you know it the weeks will start clicking by. You will get through this as the team that you are.

I hope today is a great day!
@59billy

The fact that she made that mistake at all was like a diagnostic. Her work is very detail oriented. Her whole personality is, really. So that really woke me up.

@Layla

We talk about many crazy things here.
The combo of feeling dependently weak after surgery AND drugs gives us diarrhea of the mouth :rotfl:
The forum is a fun and most importantly a supportive and safe place to share with those experiencing exactly the same. It's rare you'll find a question or situation that no one can relate to.
Thanks to your contributions to the forum so far. You've been very supportive to others and great comedic relief for many during a difficult time.
Shine on

@59billy I've seen you snooping around my pre-op thread this morning...thought I would take a look at your recovery thread! Haven't been through your pre-op yet, but I like what I'm reading here! This post especially stands out for me.

My wife of 128, oops 18 years, is a VERY strong woman. Small business owner, Type A, you get the idea. 15 years ago, I was down with a pretty nasty sinus infection/almost flu type of thing. I was feeling really bad and getting some weird muscular aches and pains. She was riding me about the old 'men are such babies when they're sick' line. It seemed like she was almost mad or maybe just upset with me for laying low and taking it easy. I really felt like ****!! We found out later that night that I was actually having a heart attack. She changed her tune :loll:

Fast forward 9 years to my hip replacement in 2013. Things were better between us and I really tried to not rely on her to do everything. Obviously she knew what my limits were and we worked it out. She still gives me **** when I get the tiniest bit under the weather but I've learned to take it! That night 15 years ago is almost a joke now when we tell the story about how she was giving me such a hard time and I was having a heart attack!

I'm lucky that my sister-in-law is an ER nurse of 35 years, so I will have her to visit the first few days instead of an outsider. I totally get how you feel about that!

Continued success and I'll be joining you on the other side (again) in 11 days!

59billy-well 2 years ago we were on a catamaran trip in the BVI. I had a headache- husband gave me aspirin-2 hours later I’m covered with hives! Poor guy mistakenly ( I hope:;) gave me his penicillin prescription for an infection he had and guess who is highly allergic to penicillin? ME! It ended up okay but almost had to chopper out! Yes still married:)

Had my first and only home PT yesterday. I got off easy compared to what some here have reported. We basically chit chatted, he looked over the exercises I was given on discharge, said, "yeah, do those" and gave me a few tips
Didn't make me do anything, which fit with my plans.

And he did say "stop if it hurts" , so I guess he's BoneSmart certified.

Ate an actual meal last night -- baked flounder, broccoli, rice. Delicious!

Decided I've looked and smelled like a sick person for long enough. Washed hair and with no rinse shampoo and took off those goofy stockings to washy legs. Being clean is a huge boost!

Glad you have your appetite and feel fresh.
My recliner was where I got my best rest.
Poor hubby...I would go to bed, get up within few hours for restroom, and then need help back to bed just to need to get up and move.
After a few nights, it became obvious that we both got a better nights rest with me on my wonderful chair.
Hope you have a good weekend.

It’s lovely reading this thread.. enjoying how grateful we all become on our partners...
It’s a bond that certainly brings you closer (not in the bed sleeping way... I’m in the guest bedroom too!![emoji23][emoji23])

Because this is my 3rd biggish surgery .. spinal discectomy & decompression & 2 THR’s I sometimes feel I’ve been somewhat reliant on my hubby... but as he says.. it’s the luck of the draw & one day you will do the same for me..and I will!!!

It does feel so good to feel clean and back in the world of the living... @59billy even if it takes so long to get everything in the right place to wash & dress.

The first week sleep wise is definitely the worst but each night after gets better...xx
