THR Early Birthday

What a guy!

Well... I have a few flaws, but that woman has put up with me all this time, and deserves to get the emotional support she needs. It was important to her to be there when they took me out and when I woke up. In some ways, this has been scarier for her than for me.

And I love her.

Having someone who "feels our pain" makes us extra lucky.
Rest, ask for ice, ask for meds if they put you on "hospital...we are getting it...it'll be just a minute time"...and sleep if you can-

Don't wait until it gets worse to ask for meds as it does take them a while. It's not just your nurse, your nurse has to get another nurse to co-sign out opiods. Hint: ask at least an hour before they do a shift change and if you can figure out their routine ask at least 30 minutes before they start all their patient checks. Worked a charm for me.

So pleased it went well. Wishing you a good day and recovery.

Happy Birthday @59billy I hope you had a restful night and can enjoy a birthday treat today. I chuckled when I read that you are still alive. I had to have some tests in hospital the other day. When the machine wouldn't pick up a pulse I asked 'does that mean I am dead' It did make the nurses giggle.

First days can be jarring...best to go with the flow which sounds like what you are doing.
Likely they will get you up and walking today...I was at the end of a hall and folks at least 25 years my senior were passing me in the gauging lane like I was standing still.
Hopefully you will be on your way home soon.

HAPPY 60th BIRTHDAY!

Wonderful news that you slept well and your pain isn't too bad. That's a great start.
Keep the ice going it truly helps with swelling and discomfort.

The birthday gift you gave yourself yesterday is one that will keep on giving in the days, weeks and months to come as you progress through recovery. Your future looks bright, it's going to be good!
Wishing you comfort, peace and happiness on your very special day. :)

I wish I had known more about pain management in the early days when I had my hip done! Definitely ask for the pain meds ahead of any issues… speaking from very painful experience!

Happy Birthday! Sounds like you had a good night and are on the road to recovery.
:catdance:

Around 8, a tech helped me get out and f bed, put on shorts and move to a chair.

Got 5 Mg Percocet around 830, the around 9:15 I had my walker driving test with PT. They said I did great. They were right! Had some pain, but was the good kind. Athlete pain as opposed to elderly cripple pain!

We'll dance some more after lunch, and if OS gives the official okey dokey, I'm on my way home!

Sitting in a chair now, not using ice at the moment. Feels pretty nice.

@SurreyGirl I have had several big surgeries over my adult life and learned a bit about the pain cylce; especially about not letting a bad cycle get a grip because then it is much harder to correct. The hints about nursing shifts, etc., are from a 'tutorial' my nurse/daughter gave me pre-op. I think the most important bit she drilled into me is how important it is to be your own advocate. No one is going to hover over you in anticipation of being needed.

Sorry to derail your thread @59billy but I know you can't chase me right now! :happydance:

Happy 60th Birthday!
