THR Early Birthday

Ok, where are you at @59billy ! Hope you're doing ok, maybe out enjoying some fresh air with your girl!

I keep getting distracted when I try to post! PT again today. It actually made me feel better - was sore and cranky when we started, felt looser at the end.

Sweety picked up my script while I was in. They changed the med from oxycodone/acetaminophen 5/325 to hydrocodone/acetaminophen 10/325. Kind of expected/wanted a milder painkiller at this point anyway. If I'm reading the charts right, though, the new med is actually stronger. Fine with me, I'll just take less. Oh, and the new med is more expensive than the old, but I've met my out of pocket limit, so checkmate, insurance company!

Took a tour of the chicken houses. Quite a few walker steps, but it was fun and kind of exciting. Iced and medicated as soon as I got inside.

Tonight's dinner plan: carryout sushi!

That's pretty strange with your meds? But I'm not in the medical field either. Isn't it great when we meet that out of pocket limit!!!! :dancy: Oh and outside walker steps is definitely better than indoor walker steps........a little difficult but worth it! :chuck:

I have had a med change this week and I queried the doctor about the hydromorphone looking stronger but he explained it all and it is a step down in reality. Good deal on the chicken check! When getting out of the car tonight my husband noticed he was too close to the grass and wanted to move the car over for me. I preferred to try "all terrain walking" and despite only having my cane did really well. Good training, especially if someone is close by.

It was a while ago a guy posted here about his PT taking him for a little walk around the edge of the parking lot and in the garden borders. I thought that was so smart because it is something we will definitely encounter!

Walking outside certainly makes the muscles feel better rather than the ‘museum Walking ‘ we do indoors.
Hoping the weather is good for everyone to get outside this weekend... fresh air is a healer itself & makes you feel like you are in the real world again! x

Be careful on the grass in the early days.
I'm not a real klutz but haven't we all walked along and stepped into a divet or rabbit hole type situation throwing ourself off? The thought of that kept me hyper aware. Kind of like stepping off the curb of the street the wrong way.

What kind of sushi do you like, billy? It's newer for me and I like most I've tried but everything always has white rice and I don't like white rice :tantrum: I usually end up grabbing some veggie type thing wrapped in "I'm not sure what" with a slice of some kind of raw sea meat inside. I like it with the Sweet Chile Sauce. I know there are way better offerings in the land of sushi, I just never know what to try....
Hope you have a great Saturday and Sushi with Sweetie later on!

The veggie type thing is probably wrapped in nori, a sort of papery wrapping made of seaweed.

Last night we had tuna tataki (seared tuna), salmon, tuna and whitefish sashimi, "three musketeers roll", which is tuna, salmon and yellow tail, topped with avocado and fish roe, and squid salad.

It was a ton of food, but we managed somehow!

I hear you about knowing what to try. I used to like fancy rolls, but I've drifted toward simpler items -- sashimi and nigiri usually.

Sushi - my favourite! Healthy and light. I used to travel to Japan about every 6 weeks. The sushi was to die for. Really miss it here.

Hope your weekend brings sunshine and some outdoors time in the fresh air.

I'm going to put notes in my phone so next time I'm out I can check out what you've tried.
Nori, tataki, sashimi, nigiri  its no wonder we have a hard time. We have to learn a whole new language to understand what we may, or may not, like :heehee:
Thanks, billy.

PS....my speed reading skills are lacking, otherwise I would have noticed Sushi was on last night's menu

So, this pretty much guaranteed a sushi night for me tonight!! Yum!

We ordered it in on the night I came home from the hospital and I was just not there yet... still wanting toast. Happy to have my appetite back (tho not really... I did enjoy the weight loss aspect [emoji23])

The PT facility has a set of parallel bars, but they only get used as something to hold onto while doing heel raises or whatever. I told them that was wrong, because in the movies, the hero (who has been shot, run over by a car, whatever) always has his triumphant moment of struggle on the parallel bars (the only equipment in the room!) as a dozen doctors and nurses and his loving wife all observe with tears of joy. I feel robbed.

We lived in Tokyo just shy of six years so certainly enjoyed some sushi outings. However, I am not into the raw fish myself. The best thing ever was going to our favourite "Sushi-go-round". All the selections would go around a belt, each different $ dish on a different coloured dish (eg; green plates were $3, yellow plates were $5). As they went by you could see what they consisted of and grab a plate anytime you fancied something. At the end, the waiter counts up your plates. I know we have these in Toronto now and you may find them in bigger cities near you as well. The sushi chefs are just behind the belt making it all, which is fun to watch too.

Walking around the house with a cane today. Nothing hurts (yet). Feels pretty good, actually. Nice to get away from the walker!

Cutting pain meds down. Had been doing 4 or 5 Percocet a day, now it's 3 or 4 Norco(Vicodin). I could probably deal with the rest of the pain with no narcotics, but let's see what tomorrow be like.

Awesome news! A word of caution....don't over do it. The day I started with the cane I think I wore circles into my carpet walking through my LR then kitchen. I wanted to hone my cane skills and get that walker out of my sight. You know the old saying "it doesn't hurt until you stop" I paid the next day....Naturally, ice and rest took care of it and I was okay.
If you practice a lot today....ice afterward :ice:
Happy Sunday!
@billy59

I am also trying the cane just a bit today. Feels okay I think but not fantastic. Don't think I'm limping though! When you evaluate, remember that both cane/walker and meds have all changed. It might be easier to pinpoint problems if you change one thing at a time.
