THR Early Birthday

Happy Saturday, billy
Hopefully you slept well and aren't in too much pain.
Any special plans for the day tomorrow....or just low key?
It's a gorgeous day here so far and more on tap for tomorrow. I think Spring has finally sprung even though
you can still spot a melting dirty snow pile in a parking lot here and there.
Wishing you a lovely Saturday and a happy Easter Sunday! :)
@59billy

Thank you! And a happy Easter to you!

Tomorrow will be pretty low key; most family us either distant or working.

Stepdaughter us coming over for dinner, and to help sweety supervise chicken foraging. This will be the first time they've been allowed to roam the yard for a while, because we like to have at least two people to make sure they don't wander too far, and to discourage Mister Fox and Wile E. Coyote. All that really takes is human presence. I'm looking forward to being out there in the sun and fresh air!

Do you keep the chickens for eggs or meat? I got some pastured chickens and some turkeys from a friend. They an free range are something else entirely to store bought. They aren't doing turkeys anymore. Did them for 2 years but they are so fragile. I can't remember the mortality rate but it was huge.
I really envy those of you expecting nice weather tomorrow. I'm a bit itchy to get outside for another walk but tons of rain and strong gusty winds. Hopefully Spring will burst forth here pretty soon. Enjoy your day sitting out bossing your chicken guardians around! :giggle:

@Carriemae they're mostly for eggs and as garden helpers. We fence each bed separately and let them run between the rows, eating bugs. The garden is healthier, the chickens are healthier, and we end up using almost no pesticides.

Once in a while, a batch of chicks includes a surprise rooster it two, and the extras end up as soup. I'd like to raise some specifically for meat, but never really got set up for it.

Had a nice outing with all my girls.

Took a preemptive Percocet right before we went out. Mary and Elizabeth did all the work while I stayed on deck, pretending to be in charge. Our deck has a set if stairs at each end; after a while I walked down one set, then (with the thrift store walker) walked around the yard a bit, watching the chickens and enjoying the outdoors, and eventually climbed the other steps back to the deck. Yeah, that was my sports for the weekend!

It's interesting to watch someone else do what I think if as my job. Mary has spent the last month learning what needs to be done, and is more cautious than I, so no worries. And her daughter is very bright and eager to help, so everybody wins!

Was a bit sore afterwards, but ice and sleep fixed that.

Hope you're all well and happy today!

Glad you made it outdoors, billy.
Those first outings feel so good and fill you with thankfulness and gratitude for the bright future you'll have.
I hope you have a wonderful Easer Sunday!
@59billy

Blimey, my mind is boggling..... What is a strip mall? or is it not the thing a lady needs to know.?
It's a shopping center :giggle: @Fairydell

Hey! Don't make that sound so sarcastic..:)
I think that is precisely just right and significant enough activity for less than two weeks from major surgery.
Hope today is a Good Day.

Well done getting outside and into the sun. Downstairs, foraging through the bush, dodging wild animals and back upstairs sounds like a proper "Survivor" obstacle course!
:climb: :hiking: :chuckmarch: :running:

phew... that's a relief :roseshwr:

If it helps, there's also a very good Mexican restaurant there. As soon as walking that far sounds good, I'll be taking the lady there to celebrate.

I love the way you put that! This area is a bit swampy, with heat, humidity and mosquitoes most of the year. I like to pretend I'm some kind of 19th century British colonial mucky-muck. If I want a gin and tonic, I always mention that it's to stave off malaria.

Same in my neck of the woods. I actually like it...wimp for cold but have remarkable tolerance for heat and humidity.
I looked up some information about Greene Square in Savannah named after Nathanael Green, a major general of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War. He emerged from the war with a reputation as General George Washington's most gifted and dependable officer, and is known for his successful command in the southern theater of the war. Originally from Massachusetts, he was rewarded with a plantation in Savannah and moved there where he died of heat stroke 6 weeks later. Thanks alot, George!:umm:

Good morning! Something I keep forgetting to mention is that the OS discovered signs of osteoporosis during the surgery, and had to build up the pelvis a bit to accept to new cup. This is why I'm a little unsure what recovery should look like; surgery was more extensive than expected.

I'm going to wait for my 3 week follow up before I start freaking out about the long term implications of osteoporosis. I have a referral for a dexa scan as soon as I can arrange it.

Good Morning @59billy Sounds like you are doing great. Take it easy until that bone fills in. Sunshine is great for bones. Love to hear about your chickens. Having a few goats and chickens is on my wish list for next place we live. It is hard to watch other people do our jobs. Hope you get a great report from OS.

In my opinion, it is certainly a reason to take this recovery slow and try to fight your natural instincts to "work out" this recovery until things have healed.
Concentrating on giving your body what it needs...good nutrition, rest, and time...
I would also avoid NSAIDS.
Please check out this new article in our library about a new osteoporosis drug...maybe you can talk to the doctor about it when you get scan done.

Try not to project or worry...(I know, easy for me to say)
Stress is terrible for our immune systems.
Hope you have a good day @59billy

@59billy I was diagnosed with osteo 5 years ago when I broke my leg and then my hip. All medications for it have been suspended until June (due to surgery) for me so you are likely not loosing anything until you see the doctor anyway. One thing that was suggested by my Rheumatologist because of my osteo is 4000 iu of Vitamin D. I get the chewable gummies on Amazon. If you want to be proactive you could ask for a referral to a Rheumatologist now as there is sometimes a bit of a wait. I am hopeful the one my doctor is talking about putting me on in June is the one from the article above.

@Carriemay60 I thought about going back to my PCP for a referral or treatment, but decided to follow up with the OS as he seems to keep up with the latest developments and is obviously the reining expert on my bones.

I'm already seeing some lifestyle changes on the horizon: less alcohol and caffeine, more attention to bit. D, calcium, magnesium, etc. Once I'm cleared to lift weights, that will help.

Interestingly the drug in the article seems to have been dpevspecific approved for post menopausal women, doubtless because that's the population open which it's been tested.

We shall see what we shall see!

You're right, only time will tell on the medication. My Rheumatologist did tell me the medication he will be starting in June promotes bone growth.
