Just hitting the sack now in preparation for my early start. It feels like the first day back to school I've been off work so long! I have a two and 1/2 hour drive to start with in the morning. But I'm packed and laptop ect is ready so fingers crossed no delays or set backs in the morning!

@NoraJ, best wishes for a good nights sleep, safe travels tomorrow, and an easy time getting back to work! Remember to rest when needed and be kind to yourself!

Thanks all.... day 1 down. Feeling tired but normal! Having a lie down before heading for dinner with a work colleague. At least being in the city centre means there are great restaurants close by. It was good though I didn't need my crutch during the day so it made it easier. Used my trusty cushion though otherwise I would be in pain...
Overall a good day!

Hi @NoraJ , just browsing through your thread and thought I would join in about getting back to work. I got my new hip July 1 and since I'm a school social worker I had the summer off. Went back to work last week (no kids just faculty) and by Wednesday I was absolutely exhausted!! I wasn't even really working full days, without the kids there we tend to come in around 9 rather than 8:30 and leave when we don't have mtgs. So even on a abbreviated schedule, by Friday I was hurting more and just had no energy left. I read some of the recommendations for returning to work (I hadn't really paid attention before since I knew I would be home all summer) and realized I really should be easing back into this work thing more slowly. You don't realize how much you take little rests each day and how wonderful it is to be able to ice yourself when you want to. I told my supervisor I would need some flexibility with my schedule and he was fine with it.

So today, Monday I came in on time, (welcomed the students!) and around 2pm I felt myself hit that wall, low energy, no motivation, pain and so I turned my computer off and called it a day. Even though you're ahead of me in terms of recovery be careful because that energy drain sneaks up on you. I wish I knew why it causes an increase in pain - anyone know? Maybe it's not just the energy drain but its the fact that I'm sitting more and lying down much less? I was really scaling back on the pain meds until I started back to school/work, now I find myself needing them more which is kind of a bummer!

Well that's my 2 cents - good luck with your transition back to work! Oh and regarding the heels - ya'll are crazy! I'm not even wearing my Dansko clogs which is my normal work shoe, it's been Chaco sandals for me all summer long. More support than my normal flip flops and they are kinda cute - although my teen age girls think they're atrocious! But I've never been a heel girl, don't even own a pair.

Thanks @aprilc... I'm a social worker too but in fostering in the non statutory sector. I am conscious of the energy drain especially as my sleep pattern is never great at the best of times! But I finish Wednesday and I won't travel the 2 1/2 hours home until Thursday. I can stay in my parents home and at least it takes some of the load off the day. I will definitely be taking it easy at the weekend. I might try a swim in the morning and take advantage of having one a few floors down.

Thankfully I feel good...still stiff and sore at times but mentally I'm feeling better. I was worried I wouldn't turn that corner....fingers and toes crossed I can keep positive.

My boss also thought I was nuts about the heels. But when I get dressed up I feel more glamorous. .. I don't even need them for height I'm 5' 9" and a bit extra on my right leg since surgery!

@NoraJ Congratulations on your back to work accomplishment!
Sounds like you are managing it well.
@aprilc I'm with you on the heels. I own zero shoes with any heel height. But, Nora, hope you get back to them soon.

Well girls...I'm so missing my heels! Wore some with small heel last week to go out in and felt so much more feminine....used to wear them every day! Hoping eventually I will again! X

Thanks @MajorHeidi. ..I think my heel wearing days are over... I gave a good few pairs to my friends daughter who has her debutant/prom this week. I felt they were going to a good home! My mission is to find trendy, stylish and comfortable flat shoes... I may be looking for some time!

@NoraJ What is the non statutory sector? I used to work in Child Protective Services, I'm assuming that's the statutory sector?

Who hoo @HoppyNanny there is hope! I'll take a low wedge to begin with for dressing up... I have a fancy dinner dance mid October and I'd love to at least manage a bit of a heel by then. It's hard to picture a fancy dress and my sketches working...

@aprilc yes... its a private agency. Its still fairly new here to have private agencies a link social care settings. Up until 15 years ago many services were still run by religious orders. They handed them over to the State but there were gaps and legislation changed to allow independent foster care services.

We don't have school social workers here unless attached to school for children or adults with disabilities.

I worked for 12 years in children and families.. that was tough going!

I'm having a bit of a lie in on my day off. I am really grateful for my staggered return to work. Especially having started a new job. Information overload with energy drain would be too much. But it went really well. Bar trying to manage opening five heavy doors with a crutch and pulling a laptop bag really challenged my coordination.

It was a good (if short) work week!

You've earned a day of leisure! Enjoy it with your favorite book and some tea!! Amazing what rest does to our bodies and our minds. Hope it's the best day yet!

Since we are talking heels and you are such good pals, I will turn you on to a secret website called The Purse Forum. It is all designer shoes and handbags. I have my Christian Louboutins authenticated there before I buy them on ebay. Www.purseblog.com.

The idea f heels right now is sadly not in the cards right now, and my pain has kept me from ebay shopping. I even gave a pair of my CLs to a friend recently because I realize I will NEVER again be able to wear that pair.

@LoyalD I know the feeling. I was looking for a pair of low wedges that looked a bit dressy...to avoid further damaging myself. I think it will be a while yet. Unfortunately I have big feet US 10/11 so designer shoes don't tend to work for me.

Are you having pains in shins? Thankfully I don't have that kind intense pain...it must be awful.
