THR Dog Lovers Recovery

I loved Selling Sunset on Netflix, the homes are amazing and the in office issues are interesting and I wonder how long it takes them every AM to get ready for work, I mean they all look like models, perfect hair and gorgeous outfits.
I watched all 5 seasons while recovering!!!
And yes, chocolate soothes the soul.
Hope you both find ways to combat the boredom, it's certainly a challenging recovery.
It seemed I'd be ok they not ok and wondered when it would all be OK for good!
Today I've done laundry and grocery shopped and my hip is so tight right now, just sat down to check in with the hippies and sit on some ice.
Take care.
Same! Binge watched the whole darn thing! Same with icing for me today!

Good luck today. keep us posted and I'm pretty sure your implant is not loose (I have no medical expertise), however, from what I know from folks who have experienced this you would be howling in pain.
And don't compare yourself to someone else's recovery in two weeks, I'm over 4 months and still use a cane outside.
We all recover differently and from this experience it seems to come in stages.

I spoke to my doctors assistant yesterday and told her there was a large lump at the bottom of my incision! She blithely said oh that sometimes happens! So I guess all is well

Day 14 First postoperative visit alleviated all of my fears.
Told me #1 No infection edge of underwear is rubbing top of incision gave me bandages to wear over it until it heals.
#2 Stem is intact -took xray to calm my fears
#3 Told me to stop watching you tube videos of people up walking without canes at day 4
Said he thinks I am getting around fine and showed me my operated leg is 4 cm longer than other leg, due to shortening because of the arthritis.
Told me to do whatever activities I wanted within reason just Dont fall.
Hip felt better immediately...the power of your mind.

Day 15 Woke up this am feeling pretty good. Used the walker to go up to my mailbox as FedEx was leaving a package. Walked to my dog kennel twice and ventured downstairs to let 3 of my old dogs get some sunshine while I sat in the chair. Fixed dinner. Still feeling a dull pain in groin area that goes into lower back area, more noticeable with cane. Iced and got into recliner had a meltdown cry that I will never be right again....I had gotten so bad hanging onto furniture to walk before surgery thinking its going to take longer?
This is so frustrating, this up and down pain and emotions. Its only been 2 weeks but I am going out of my mind I am so behind on housework and I miss taking care of my :doggie:'s

Day 15 Week 3 Day 2 Feeling better this am. Walked to dog kennel. Trying heel to toe walking with walker and cane. I can feel the muscles to the outside of my foot coming alive like "oh you need us again to work". Got dishes washed and clothes folded and put away and cooking lunch now. Keep having the dull ache at back of operated hip. But slow improvement.

Possibly.
At only 15 days post op, it’s extremely early days. Look for improvement weekly, not daily, or you’ll be disappointed. Take each day as it comes, easier said than done

Choose a day of the week, let’s use, Wednesday, the day of your surgery. Each Wednesday (only) allow yourself to reflect back over the previous week and you’ll notice the progress you’re making. Perhaps you’re sleeping better, limping less, pain has eased, your mood has improved, you catch my drift.
Hope you have a nice weekend!

Well look at you! You did a lot today!
Layla's advice about checking improvements weekly is so smart! Instead of hourly and daily with all the ups, downs, plateaus, forwards, backwards, and sideways, the weekly assessment is much more pleasant and hopeful.
Good days ahead!

Day 18 Week 2 Day 4
Had a great day yesterday, today not so much. Low back pain over operated side and groin pain again just like before surgery just when weight bearing.
Leg length seems to be balancing out some but still feels like my pelvis is tilted.
Had been taking Tylenol three times daily but lowered to twice daily yesterday and only took once yesterday morning.
I'm I being too fast to stop pain meds?
I am on meloxicam once a away as well.
Leg isn't swollen anywhere, thought I was turning a corner but back to thinking something isn't right. I did sit alot yesterday as it's raining and didn't walk much.
Whats most peoples timeline on pain pills and what kind?

@Doglover7 I get that you're a worry wart but it definitely doesn't help your stress levels so try to ease up a little. Everybody's pain tolerance and recovery is totally individual to them, you can't compare. If you're still having pain continue to take meds as prescribed, ice, elevate and rest. Unfortunately, no matter how hard we want it to be, we can't hurry up our recovery. Our body will heal in its own time and we need to listen to it. Hope you're enjoying a peaceful Sunday evening.

I'm I being too fast to stop pain meds?
We often say that once you start forgetting a dose of your pain meds, it’s probably time to begin weaning, or stop. If you’re not comfortably mobile without them, or don’t sleep well due to discomfort, it’s probably not time yet.

Just in case you haven’t caught this anywhere on the forum yet. It is REALITY.
You will have ups and downs. So please don’t let a day that is not as favorable as the last get you down. If you’re not already, stay busy, as in keep your mind occupied. It will help you get through the next couple of weeks quicker. Realize that the discomfort or odd sensation you have one day, will likely be replaced by a questionable new pain or different odd sensation the next day, and so on and so on….at least for awhile. :)
@Doglover7

Sorry to hear of a more difficult day. It sure can be challenging to predict when to be extra cautious. I'm thinking there's a lot of wisdom in some of the advice us newbies (speaking personally here) are getting, to be patient, take it slow and steady. Here's to a well-balanced week ahead, one where we can see some additional gains yet where we listen well when our bodies urge a pause for rest!

Thanks guys...Hoping for a better day tomorrow. I am so incredibly bored.
Layla I did see that and its exactly true! I thought I was thru the woods on Saturday then Sunday came :)
Well. I did go back to my cane today so there's that.

Definitely don't try to be a hero and stop the meds too early. I did that and I regretted it! You are still very very out of surgery. Boredom is a thing however especially as someone who is active and has dogs to take care of. I get it. I was lucky that most of my recovery was during the colder months so I didnt feel as If I was missing out really. But I still have days where I am icing and more uncomfortable. Stay patient my friend you won't regret it!

Pain meds and the use of them has become such a misunderstood thing. If you need the meds and you take them as prescribed it's a good thing that you use them and recover comfortably. There is no hero trophy for stopping and no shame in using pain meds.

Day 19
Today has been a good day. Managed to let out 3 of my old dogs while I sat in a chair and let them run a bit. Washed a load of clothes. Rearranged my laundry items that my hubby had all messed up :) and went out to see my babies in the kennel twice so far.
Made baked cinnamon oatmeal apples and chilling with some ice watching you tube videos now.
Tinsy bits of improvement... 2 more days until I'm at 3 weeks!
