Diane's Knee Quest finally the real deal

I'm pleased to hear that your husband is so much better. That must be a weight of your mind.

I wouldn't try to convince him about the BoneSmart recommendations for recovery. You are in charge of your recovery, not him. Just do it your way and don't get drawn into any argument or discussion.

My surgeon doesn't allow any formal PT or more than very gentle exercise for the first month after a TKR. He says that your knee needs that time to begin its journey of healing. Not all surgeons believe in lots of exercise.

I love your pillow stack. What a sensible idea.

Husband being released, yay.

Question, saw a friend last night who had a tkr three years ago. She has this ice machine and can let me borrow it. Cant find much info on it, anyone hear of or know or have any opinions?

I'm glad your husband is home at last. :yes!:

If she will let you, why not borrow your friend's ice machine and try it out before making a final decision? She will be able to show you how it works.

able to show you how it works.

Doubtful, she barely remembers it, says she didnt use it much, and she tends to be a bit mmm, ditzy to begin with. But I can probably figure it out, or find instructions online? Wonder why so little info available on it, are they out of business?

Wow, those pillows were a great idea. Better than the foam, which I have, but isn't ideal for long legs. I had done the pillows but never thought to attach them (oxy brain) so they were always falling over.
I have the breg machine with the long stems. Invaluable for being able to maneuver it in many configurations. Get the long stem.

Yayyy...hubby going home!!!

I'm sure if you Google the ice machine you can find instructions, that's great one less expense for you to go through!!!

Ya she brought it over and Im not sure about it, looks pretty small, but I will take a look at it. I dont mind too much spending money for something that will help me, but I'll check it out.

Hubby is HOME, yay! Also, he asked doc on check out for a rx for Percoset ;), which he gave him 20 5/325's, hehe more for MY stockpile :), he wont need them. Just my little safety net, after hearing that my doc is VERY strict with painkillers..

I'm so glad your husband is home!

I would load that with ice and see how it works and long the cold lasts or if you like it.

That's wonderful that your husband is home. Give the ice machine a whirl. The price is definitely right!

I have two ice machines. One that Medicare paid for when my rotator cup was repaired and another one for my bedroom. I found that the first one got me too chilled during the night and I'd have to keep cutting it off to try and warm up. The one for my bedroom cuts itself off after 30 minutes, which is usually just right. If I find I need it again I just turn the timer on. It has worked well for me and I don't have to keep juggling ice machines back and forth from the den the the bedroom.

Medicare paid for an ice machine? I was told they dont cover them? hmmm

I don't have to keep juggling ice machines back and forth from the den the the bedroom.

I wont have to worry about that, as long as my ice machine carrier (aka husband) stays out of hospitals :)

Connecting the pillows was @FlaGranny idea :). Because I am sewing challenged, the giant safety pins were my idea. Collective ideas help us all

:flwrysmile::flwrysmile:

I like the safety pin idea and I ordered some large ones to do it. Dianehelen's pins are easier than sewing them and easier to take apart when you're done with them. :yes!:

I know it should not, but stuff like this bothers me

So I got an email last night from a friend I don't hear from often. I wrote back about my upcoming tkr and this is her response: (do I tell her my plan or just thank her for her well wishes)

Yikes!!! Hope it goes well for you. Don’t slack on the rehab. My Mom thought swimming would be an alternate to therapy and ended up having lots of scar tissue build up and caused a lot of pain.

Wish you the best!

Ok yet another wrinkle. So hubby home, felt fine all day, went to sleep, just woke up now with a very puffy swollen lower lip? What the heck is this? Didn't eat anything different, no new meds, didn't injure himself. Any thoughts anyone? @Josephine @Celle @newlybionic or anyone else? Its like the universe is telling me not to get my tkr. Grrr

Help? Please

Well, on the other hand I got a call from my insurance company about setting up a routine home visit with a nurse. Told her I didn't need it right now because I was getting a knee replacement in 2 weeks. She told me she had one and it wasn't bad, except for learning to walk right again.

You never know the whole story of another person's experience. Some people minimize it and others do the opposite. Some people deal with pain much better than others too. Some people do form adhesions but most do not. Some people form adhesions after abdominal surgery and most do not. My motto is to plan for the worst and hope for the best. :)

Your husband's doctor needs to be informed. It might be a slight allergic reaction, or it could be something else, but we can't diagnose it for you.
Whatever it is, you still have plenty of time (more than two weeks) for him to get over it. Don't even think about cancelling your surgery. You've come this far. Don't back off now.

Don't forget this, too - quite a few people on BoneSmart have been discharged after a knee replacement, to where they live alone, with no one to help them, and they have managed fine. You won't be a totally helpless invalid when you're discharged from hospital. While it is nice to have someone to help, it isn't essential. You can do this! :friends:

Oh, I just saw your other message too. Don't listen to any horror stories, don't listen to anyone else's good or bad experiences - half of them are hearsay. Adhesions are very rare.

Could it be a fever blister? Maybe bit his lip in his sleep?
