Diane's Knee Quest finally the real deal

It is the knee replacement surgery anticipation!

I'm sorry to hear your hubby is still in the hospital. I had to laugh when you mentioned pinning a list of questions to him :snork:. I hope he gets better soon and the next three weeks are smooth for you.

Hubby still in hospital, but was feeling better yesterday, so trying to move forward , fingers crossed.

So my next step is ordering ice machine. @newlybionic you said you liked the breg glacier. Is this the one you have? And is this the pad you got, the universal xl? And the matching dressing? Did you get the dressing piece, or just use something else.

Also is it worth while to get the long stem pad? I'm thinking for me it is, as it's my left knee that will be on the inner side of my bed and may need the extra length

I'll probably order this Monday, so I have a few days to play with it

Yes that is the one I have with the extra long stem multi use pad. It has worked very well for me and still does.

Did you get the dressing pad too, or use something else?

And I cleaned out my car and recovered 8 empty water bottles. How many fit in the unit

I didn't get the dressing pad. If I had sweatpants on or something like that I used nothing. Otherwise I just used a kitchen towel that you dry dishes with and it worked very well for me.

I am back from the hospital visiting my husband who has improved a bunch, maybe even coming home tomorrow, so thats good news.

But, we had an "interesting" talk, about my upcoming surgery, and I may have a bit of an issue on my hands. As I have mentioned before, he is one of those, that think doctors are like gods, and whatever the doctor tells you is like the law and you dont question it. I am, the exact opposite, while I respect doctors, I also play an important, and yes sometimes questioning role in my health. I have been explaining to him the Bonesmart ways, and he is very negative about it. Saying, make sure your doctor agrees with this or you should not do it because he is the doctor and knows best. And then the speech about you cant believe everything you read from people on the Internet. I love my husband dearly with all my heart and soul, but I will not be dictated to about my care. So we had a bit of a heated discussion. I guess over the next 18 days this topic will come up many times. I have several of the bonesmart articles to show him, but like my nurse friend, and local friend who have their own opinions, I doubt I will change his mind. *sigh* guess we shall see how this all plays out.

ok off for my small project today, constructing my P.S.E.D (pillow stack elevation device)

I'm glad your hubby is better is better and that he may be coming home soon.

My doctor didn't give me any unrealistic instructions right after surgery, except to elevate, ice, medicate and rest, hopefully yours won't either!!!

I was lucky my hubby kept his nose out of how I wanted to handle recovery!!!

Good luck!!

Your ice machine looks very similar to mine and the pad looks identical. Now that I've unclogged it, it's working great (I had this unit for my previous surgery). I found that three sets of bottles work well and have three vitamin water bottles plus one little blue freezer box for each set. It's a good idea to set it up and see how it works.

I'm so glad your husband is improving! Wonderful news.

My OS doesn't think you need PT and told me "if you go, do NOT let them touch you." I went once (primarily for staple removal) and will not go again any time soon.

When I asked the PA in my OS office is there any activities I should avoid her response was 'don't do anything that hurts'. I followed her advice. I would go to the point of uncomfortable but never past it.

@dianehelen HA! I gave you the idea and I haven't even made my pillow stack yet! I've been too busy installing my heat reflecting film on my windows. I'm going to get it done this week though. It looks good and you won't have to be messing around stacking them each time.:snork:

Yep your great idea, but didn't you mention sewing them? Im sewing challenged so these giant safety pins worked out great.

And I can move this from recliner to bed easily.

We have the same kind of hubbys. He pretty much wasn't around, so I did my own thing. He does make fun of me and meds though. I have to walk away when he does. Maybe you could just agree like you would with pt and do your own thing.

Yes, I did, but now I think I'll just pin them. It looks like it worked great.
