Your bottom number is great, and that's the one they say you have to worry about! You have been through much more than the average person going into this surgery. I wish I could say something to calm you down. Just know that we all care and wish you the very best!

My bp was high before TKR and I begged the dr to keep me off bp meds until after the TKR, knowing I'd be active and get it down naturally through exercise. A few months after surgery it was 110/75. But it came down just from riding my bike everyday. Hopefully your stress will be gone soon as well.

22 DAYS to go! Yikes

Today I started getting things together. I got a set of 4 cheap pillows from Amazon, along with a set of 12 giant heavy duty safety pins, to pin pillows together to make my elevation stack.

Hubby still in hospital  trying to stay positive :yes!: that he will be ok, and my surgery can go forward

Probably will order ice machine next week.

Getting close, getting scared, seeing the rewind of my hip nightmare in my head, and hoping law of averages, are on my side that lightening wont strike me twice.

Tick tick tick.. my fellow August Hot shots!

I feel your pain! Is your ID involved in preparing you for the TKR?

Umm no??? I have not seen him since about january 2015, why? should I expect to need him? (gulp)

Hoping and praying hubby will be well soon. I had to delay my surgery for a couple month's for my husband's health. Then I had to delay another week for a tiny scratch on my knee. When everything aligned, it went well. I'm sure it will for you, too. They're going to monitor your BP anyway, but a little extra care doesn't hurt.

Hi Diane,
I don't think there's any need to have your ID doctor involved for your TKR. Just be sure that your surgeon is aware of your history with the THR. We have had people on BoneSmart who had an infection in their first joint replacement, but who have gone on to have a problem-free second joint replacement.

I hope your husband is soon back home with you again. @lovetocookandsew has had diverticulitis and will understand its ups and downs.

Ok thanks for that. Kinda gave me a pause, hearing about ny ID.

@lovetocookandsew what can you tell me about minimizing recurrences of diverticulitis attacks? It seems to be a very annoyingly chronic deal huh

Well more not great news this morning :( , my husband was started on full liquids yesterday, which is like pudding, loose cream of wheat, yogurt, cream in his coffee, etc. Well by last night his stomach was bothering him again. Saw the dr this morning, and they are taking him back to clear liquid and another day, at least in the hospital. With my surgery now 3 weeks away, Im really starting to think that it wont happen. Trying to stay positive, but its hard.

Then to add to it, he is NOT good at asking enough questions to doctors, which is the opposite of me. So when I ask him things about what the dr said, he says, I dont know ,I didnt ask, then he gets a bit testy with me.. soo there is that. Is that a guy thing in general, not to question doctors, or participate in their care? I dont know, but I always ask a ton of questions. So much so I guess, OS #2 of because of my question would not do my surgery , so maybe I am on the far curve, but my husband just seems to listen when drs talk, and not ask anything.

OK trying to keep my cool, here, and just share facts, and thoughts, not my "real" feelings... I will just go sit in the corner and express those ;)

You could try writing down a list of questions both you and your husband have for his doctor. Then your husband would be able to just go through his questions when the doctor sees him or you could give the doctor a call and ask him these questions. I hope he starts to feel better soon.

That IS a male thing I guess. My husband is the same. I learned my lesson and I always go with him now when he goes to the doctor. It drove me crazy when he would go to the doc and when he came home I'd ask him questions and "I don't know" or "I don't remember" was what I got from him. Also, he would complain about this or that, but when he would go for his doc visit, and the doc asked him if there were any problems, he'd say "no." Grrrrrr! I have to tell the doctor his symptoms. My husband has heart disease and had a heart attack a year and a half ago. I can't get him to follow his diet properly.

riting down a list of questions

Tried that, put the list on his phone, but you know how quick docs make rounds in hospital, he comes in chats a bit, husband forgets he has a list, doc is gone. I ask husband about list, he says, oops, I forgot . Cant really pin a list to him, he IS grown man (sorta :-) )

I'm not sure why that is. My mother asks tons of questions, so does my dad. However, my dad doesn't ask them of physicians. I wonder if it has to do with questioning authority, the dr. being the authority. I ask a lot of questions and asked them during my TKR/infection, when I was able. There were times I was unable to think clearly to ask questions and my parents are in their 80s, so my sister and friends were there to ask the questions and report to me.

Three weeks is longer than it seems, it's really 21 days. Does that seem longer? That's quite a while for your husband to be hospitalized. Hopefully he'll be home, recovering and you can move forward with your TKR.

It's a male thing! Lol. My hubby thinks you don't dare question the doctor. What the Dr says is law! I ask all kinds of things, like what is this medicine supposed to do for me. You ask hubby what the medicine is for, and he'll answer I don't know, the Dr gave it to me, he knows what he's doing, so I have to take it. Well, doctors have been known to be wrong too! And I've had them prescribe medicine that I cannot take because of BP meds. They get snippy with me when I tell them I can't take it and ask me why not. Then they come back and say well, you can take this one. No apologies, no nothing. If they do that to hubby, he'll just die. And I can tell him.... well, you said Dr knows it all and is always right! Lol

My hubby must be an exception...he doesn't asks questions, he interrogates, by the time he's done the doctor is ready to confess to anything...I took him with me to my pre-op appointment with OS and I was dying, but he listened to my doctor go over all the facts, I asked my questions, hubby asked a couple and that was that. When we left he said " I really like your doctor, you are in good hands ", I just smiled and said, I figured you liked him:)

Diane, I'm sure they'll figure out how to get hubby back on track, better that it happened now than the week before TKR or right after your surgery. Take a deep breath my friend and try to relax a little.

Sending you positive thoughts!!!

Oh, I agree it's a guy thing. It's like them stopping and asking for directions! That'll never happen! Or asking for help. Nope!
In three weeks your hubby should be nice and well. Like Clara said, it's better happening now then right before or right after your surgery!

Ya, I hope. I'm sitting in the hospital visiting with the unpatient :-( He is back on npo .

I had my every 2 month port flush earlier and there my bp was 121/67 go figure
