Hi Diane, I am one week since my surgery now. Just to let you know, I am sitting in my recliner, my ice machine is humming away, and I've taken my meds. My pain level right now is maybe a 1 or 2. Sure, it hurts more when I walk on it but it is better today then it was when I just got home from hospital. I felt a lot of anxiety prior to surgery too...I think we all do. I had a kind of peaceful feeling develop though about 2 days from surgery. I think I had come to grips with it and I was beyond ready. Hoping you find some peace soon too. I'll be here for you as will everyone here.

:)

my original major in college was romance languages... I took many years of Spanish, French , some Italian ... I had to switch majors when it got too hard to be reading Sartre, Cervantes, and, Dante at the same time, that were too confusing to understand in english.. and then it WAS the 70's, and there were a lot of drugs ;)

I switched to World History, which was Muchhhhh easier.. I know it was a cop out, but, I was young and stupid..

Then living in Florida for almost 40 years, its hard not to know and learn Spanish.. Over the years, it just became a natural part of life. Plus my best friend/next door neighbor is from Argentina, and she wont feed me Chimichurri and Dulce de leche, if I dont make the effort to speak Spanish when I am there , and she is an EXCELLENT cook haaha ok, that may be tmi, but there ya have it..

@Diane LTKR Thank you, that was very encouraging. Im sure once Im in the after part, my mind will be eased, pain is just something we have to go thru, but the mental anxiety is just exhausting... Thanks for the reassurance

I really understand how your anxiety can be very high going into your TKR considering your problems with your hip surgery. I had to make the decision to have my knee done over with thoughts on my mind that I could wind up much worse off than I was after the first TKR. I could barely walk and had a very hard time trying to even walk or sleep. Take a deep breath when the anxiety gets high and realize that the odds are overwhelmingly with you. I figured I already had something bad go wrong with my knee that this time it had to go right.

@newlybionic beat me to it. It's helpful for pre-op pain, too, and you can figure out the best way to prepare ice. Sounds weird, but you'll have time to find bottles, etc, that fit it best and find out how long they last and how many sets you need. Better to know beforehand than when you're recovering.

I know your hip surgery problems have caused you great stress is deciding to take care of your knee. I hope you can find peace and comfort.

Thanks @LoveGiants Julie, Im trying... I probably wont have peace in my mind, until I wake up from surgery, then just deal with the pain and recovery

@newlybionic I am gonna order my machine probably next week after I get my bloodwork back and its all good to go. Blood draw is tomorrow...

You are doing very well holding it together. I know going into my revision my nerves were totally frayed and I was so very worried about the outcome. You have all of us here for support along the way. If you get the same ice machine I have then we had some empty 12 oz soda bottles we filled two thirds of the way with water and froze them. I also have two blue blocks from a picnic cooler. I add some regular ice and a big of water and you will probably need to have it changed only two times a day. Mine is still ready to go every night as needed.

I'm sure your blood tests will be ok. When is the rest of your testing?

@newlybionic blood draw today, usually I have impossible to find veins, but luckiky it went very easily, maybe a good sign?

I have to make an appt with primary next week, go over bw hopefully get her clearance. Then 8/8 see os then pre op testing, consult with anesthesiologist, then...... Wel yanno...

I have tons of water bottles, some of the blue blocks, and a bunch of other freezie pack kinda things that I save from when we order lobsters from maine , I should be ok with that. Just getting it and used to working it.

One wrinkle on the horizon, ughh my husbands stomach is bothering him again, waiting to see if he needs to go to er and start that process again, with the new joy in his life of diverticulitis. OLD SUCKS! UGHH

Happy they found your veins...I know what that's like, the phlebotomists usually think I'm weird because I get really excited when they get me on the first try and also with IV's.

I'm sorry to hear about your hubby...I hope he doesn't have to go back to hospital :(

Diane, is there anything your hubby can take to prevent these flareups? You have enough to worry about and so does he without this coming up again!

Mama had it for years. The things they told her to do years ago is the opposite of what they say now. She'd have a flareup and the doctor would put her on antibiotics. As her appetite decreased so did her attacks. Hopefully, your husband's is something really simple.

He had been on antibiotics for a few weeks now, and seemed a bit better, till last night. But for now he is waiting a bit to see how he feels. Nothing is easy huh

Ughhh well since I can't curse here suffice it to say rats! husband on way back to hospital.

Freaking out just a bit with his health uncertain, and my impending surgery & long term recovery.

So just arghhhhhhh.
