THR Deep Breath Reporting for Recovery Duty

Well done sending the text to Nutty Buddy. Sounds like it was worded politely but also firmly. Hopefully she gets the message and respects your wishes. That's an unnecessary distraction you don't need right now as you continue to recover from Hip #1 and get ready for Hip #2. Can you request a private room for the next hip? Even if not, I think the odds are in your favor that you won't end up with a wacky roommate more than once. I still would request that private room though, haha

Good Grief girl! While silence is golden in most cases, it seems that this woman did not have a clue that you were ignoring her messages for a reason. Hopefully, she will respect your firm and emphatic "leave me alone" message. Your wordIng was perfect and could not have been any clearer. You certainly do not need the stress of her lurking in the bushes while you are still recovering and preparing for your next surgery. And, as others have said, let's hope that you end up with a roomie-free room with your next op. I know private rooms are fairly rare at PNMC. But, if hubby has any clout, maybe he can arrange it for you. Good luck sweetie and I hope your guilty feelings are history now.

Good for you for sending that text, @DeepBreath. She sounds very obsessed. It's not healthy. A lot of people seem to have anxiety and OCD now. Like the other posters, I really hope you get a private room next time. I had one, and it made all the difference. I was able to sleep and heal. I'm excited for you to be a double hippie soon. It just gets better. I forget about my hips a lot of the time now, and it hasn't even been three months.

you all are the best and make me smile. :)
Yeah, it needed to be done. It's a shame and I truly do feel very badly for her, but a really wise friend of mine once said about having unhealthy people in your life, "You can't fix what's broken in them and if you allow it they might just break you too". So true! At least I've finally gotten to a place in my life where I can more quickly identify folks like this and kind of cut them off at the pass. In my younger days I would have felt it was my duty to hang in there and try to do the 'fixing'. :bignono:
I did include her in my prayers last night; that she could somehow find peace and some form of happpiness in her life. It's all I can do for her. So, hopefully this is all done and dusted.

As far as me having a private room, I don't even know if they have those in that hospital. Like Nana said, I think they are fairly rare in military hospitals. I think whether or not you have a roommate depends on how heavy the surgery schedule is. I'm just hoping the old adage about lightning not striking twice is true. If it's not, I might have to give a holler to @Nana757 to come bust me out. I'll tie all the bedding together and rappel down the side of the building. I'll pay you gas money and treat you to a sumptuous feast at the Waffle House. Deal?
Man, the thought of me in a hospital gown and no-slip socks sliding down the side of the hospital is making me :rotfl:

Thanks for all the encouragement, Friends. I truly do appreciate you so much.
I hope you're all having a terrific day! Oooh, this evening, the hubs and I are going to some friends' home for a 'Spud and Suds' evening. Big baked taters with a fixings bar! I can't indulge in the suds, but I'll darned sure be doing some damage to the spuds. :)

@DeepBreath !! Hey hey! your next surgery date! I am so happy for you, then there will be no stopping you.
So glad to hear that you won't do as many pre made meals, that was pretty intense..
With that decision made, now you can enjoy a few "normal" things before the next go round.
Who wants to stand for hours on end cooking in the kitchen??
Are you still using the walker for support? If yes, do you need to continue that up til the surgery?
Gosh, November 24.. that will be here in a flash!
Just think, by New Year's Day you will be walking like a pro.
Seriously, I am so happy for you and now you know that it's really not all that bad and the first couple of days pass by quickly. :roseshwr:

On other news, I am sorry you had to pull the trigger on the Nutty Buddy text. Let's just hope that is the end of it.
I will start prayers now for your having a sane roommate this next go around.
One that knows about GasX and nows how to use it! :holysheep:

So happy for you, Deep. I really am,, hugs and more hugs to you.

P.S. speaking of nuts. I have one client who is bordering on harassment. Texts, emails and calls wanting to come see me, wanting to meet for lunch. Wondering when I can work on her again.. and " I sent you an email and you didn't reply, I am worried about you" those sort of barrages..
I was at 3.5 weeks and she had the nerve to text me and say that the side of her thigh was getting tight and could I help??????
Wha-a-a-a?? I wanted to tell her in detail just how "tight" my thigh muscles were.. hahahah

I finally dealt with the problem yesterday and it has caused me quite a bit of anxiety. It's tricky when it's a client.
I am pretty diligent with boundaries but people like that (and your hospital roommate) don't seem to see the lines drawn.
yesterday it started with an email, then a voice mail, then a text to tell me that she left a voice mail, then another email to tell me that she left a v. mail. All in a span of 20 minutes. I was chatting on the phone with my son and it was such an intrusion.

So, Deep, I hope that this the last of her communications with you!!

@Hipster Girl, if that video does happen to come out on YouTube you may want to watch it with caution. You know how hospital gowns are....viewing my rappelling adventure might cause hysterical blindness. :scaredycat:

@CricketHip, thank you, friend. :) Yep, I'm ready to get this done!
I do use my cane at times just to give that op hip a bit more workout prior to surgery, but honestly the walker is my default mode right now. Between the LLD and the pain in my non-op hip, I just like the stability of the walker better.
I have done a bit of walking without any aids though. It's not pretty, but that op hip just feels great! :yes!:

Oh my goodness, re: your clingy client. That is very disturbing. No wonder you have had anxiety over it. That is way worse than Nutty Buddy. All that contact in just a 20 minute space? Yeesh....
I just cannot wrap my head around the thought process of people like that. They must just be wired very differently. On what planet is it okay to bother a recovering THR patient, complaining about doggone 'thigh tightness'...and not just once but repeatedly?
It kinda makes you want to knock on their forehead and yell, "Hello! McFly!"
I hope that she respects your line drawing and stops bugging you. I mean, that IS a delicate issue. Do you drop her as a client or roll the dice that she'll take the hint?
Sending good thoughts, Friend. You do not deserve that.
Take good care and I hope you have a terrific weekend. :)

Its not easy sometimes. In have had many people who latched on to me some have just gradually dissapeared as I kept all contact minimal but some I have had to be blunt. I was stalked to a very frightening point and had to involve the police. It was a stressful time.
OK onward you just concentrate on getting that hip sorted.

Legin THR Sep 14

Well done on getting that date for hip number 2! At least it's not a long wait. You won't regret going totally bionic. I look forward to following your recovery journey.

@Poppet, thank you so much for those links! What an interesting read that was. The thorough description of the healing process was enlightening. I also really liked the nutritional advice. It's amazing how our bodies work and how food can greatly affect it. :)

@Jaycey, thank you for the encouragement. :) I am definitely looking forward to being fully bionic!

@Legin, you had briefly mentioned an incident of the stalking nature. I had no idea you had endured something of that magnitude though. I'm sorry you had to go through that. Again, I just do not understand the mindset.
It makes me question how I approach people now...not just because of Nutty Buddy, but because I have had a few instances with people like her. I was raised a certain way; you are to be polite and personable to people. Not overly so or gushing, but pleasant and kind. I have seen first hand how easily this can be misconstrued.
That makes me sad. I like people and I like interacting with them. Meeting new people and getting to know about them is a happy thing for me. I find the older I get though, the more reluctant I am to 'put myself out there' for fear of encountering someone who mistakes common friendliness for an invitation to glom on like an octopus.
I'm glad you came through all that okay. You have such a great sense of humor and are so encouraging. I'm glad your experiences haven't damaged that in you. Have a great day, friend. :)

I think you are wise. I thought of you yesterday, because I am dealing with a former ballet student who was very pushy that way. She has been writing scathing reviews about me on line. She is still doing it, and I closed my studio four years ago! She has taken to pretending she is different people on the thread, (posting from different computers,) and agreeing with herself. It's scary. When you google my name, it says, "Hip Hip Hooray gives a great class, but she's verbally abusive." She seems to interpret boundaries and firmness as verbal abuse. I did find her exasperating, but didn't realize the power she could tap into on the Internet. It's not good timing, since I'm looking for work right now.

Anyway, so important that your old roommate doesn't do something like that. It can take on a life of its own.

@Hip Hip Hooray! That is horrible! That is the total downside to social media. People can say what they want with no consequences.
I think most people can see through that sort of bashing, don't you? I also am positive that you have many many former students that can vouch for you and give good reviews if needed.

Hey @DeepBreath
I cannot believe I missed all these posts...nary an email alert to me.
You got it girl! I'm just a phone call away and I'll be there wearing my cape and tights!!!! I have this hysterically funny mental image of me running through the halls of a military hospital trying to get to your room, to save you from your roomie. I don't think I'd get very far. It would certainly be worth trying, though...
Hopefully, by now, your ex roomie has gotten the message and has decided to leave you alone. And, @CricketHip, I find it amazing and am dumbfounded by the number of people out there who are so self-absorbed that they never think to consider the feelings or condition of others. It's just all about them and there's no fixing those kind of people. The only thing they understand is blunt and concise responses. And, sometimes, a hit in the head with a hammer! I hope your situation has been resolved, as well. It's very unnerving when there is someone lurking in the bushes. I hope you both have a super day today.

@Hip Hip Hooray!, I am so sorry that is going on, friend. How completely awful of that person. @CricketHip is spot on about the pitfalls of social media. It is very frightening the power 'keyboard warriors' have...and it's all anonymous. It's difficult to call them on their actions because they have plausible deniability on their side, especially if they know their way around IP addresses, etc.
I also agree that you would have plenty of former students who would gladly vouch for you. That certainly doesn't take the sting and damage out of what this person is doing though. *Hugs*

@Nana757, no worries, friend. :) It was just me being silly. LOL! I got a giggle out of picturing you running down the halls of the hospital in a cape and tights, yelling, "Deep Breath! Where is Deep Breath?!" :heehee:
Thank you for the back up. You're good people!
Re: roomie - so far, so good. Fingers and toes are crossed.

I hope you all are having a great day!

@DeepBreath and @CricketHip, Yes, several of my other students wrote excellent reviews. They were really upset about what this woman said. But, it just seems to make her worse. It's like she's inventing a group of friends on her side. It's all very fictional. It does keep me up awake at night, though. I'm not usually like that. I wish I hadn't seen it.

Anyway, I'm just glad that you avoided a situation like mine. Confronting her caused her to retaliate.

So your surgery is coming up! How do you feel? I'm excited for you.

P.S. speaking of nuts. I have one client who is bordering on harassment. Texts, emails and calls wanting to come see me, wanting to meet for lunch. Wondering when I can work on her again.. and " I sent you an email and you didn't reply, I am worried about you" those sort of barrages..

Ya know, I've been having these stingy pains in my op thigh and I know you're still recovering but do you think you could fit me in your schedule soon? Oh and I would need you to come to me as I can't drive yet. I know Philadelphia is quite a way from Georgia but wouldn't it be great to stretch your legs a bit? :rotfl:. Sorry .. just couldn't resist. That client has way too much nerve! :no-fin:

@Hip Hip Hooray!, that is frightening. Because I have been a stay at home mom for most of the past 20 years, and I am an introvert, I take to the internet as a form of social interaction. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen that exact scenario you're talking about regarding people creating multiple accounts and basically fashioning a one person cyber lynch mob. It is disturbing. These people are not well and the damage they attempt to do is infuriating and unfair. Do you know if there is anybody on the site where these things are posted whom you might be able to contact about this? I know you said she uses different accounts and IP addresses, but I am wondering if something can be done to staunch her vitriol. That makes me angry for you. Get a life, for pete's sake! If all one has to do is sit around and harass somebody over some old, phantom gripe then they truly have no real life of their own. Grrrr!! *Hugs*
I'm feeling good about the upcoming surgery. :) I am starting to make 'To Do' lists and get things in line. I'm also focusing positive energy on the points that concern me (another possible allergic reaction to...whatever again, etc). At this point, I'm just kind of like, 'Bring It On'. I don't look forward to the immediate after surgery recovery period again, but I know that it does go more quickly than I thought it would. I'm keeping that in mind. :)

@kktoland, LOL! You so crazy, girl! Why, none of that is unreasonable at all!

@DeepBreath , so glad to hear you are feeling good about your soon upcoming surgery. You are familiar with the process from the first go-around so are in a perfect position this time to know what needs to be done or done differently and what can wait.

Your positive attitude is key and will take you a long way. Reminds me of an older gentleman I met in rehab - he had two knee surgeries at the same time I had my hip surgeries and coincidentally we were in rehab both times at the same time. He told me he wished he had a video of me the first time and the second time for comparison. He said when he saw me after my first surgery, he thought I would be crippled for life (he actually said that to me, haha). He couldn't believe the night & day difference this time. I told him the only thing I did differently was roll with it and not fight it this time. I threw my expectations and frustration out the window and decided not to resist the process but go along with it. That small change in my attitude made all the difference apparently as I had numerous rehab folks make similar comments to me. You are way ahead of the game in that regard and I know you will do great!
