Happy Monday, Fellow Hippies :)
Today is overcast with a steady rain. It's very cozy and I am enjoying pottering around the house doing a bit of housework and sipping hot spiced tea.
I received a surprise package filled with all sorts of intriguing wrapped gifts from a dear friend of mine. She is truly my 'sister from another mister'. She is so thoughtful and knows me so well. The package included a lovely candle that crackles when it burns, two word puzzle books, an 'adult' coloring art book featuring gorgeous butterflies, a wonderful box of colored pencils, and a big old container of pumpkin spice caramel corn with pumpkin seeds.
Heaven! :loveshwr:

While I was taking my nice, hot shower this morning, I missed a call....from a restricted number. Not sure if it was from Nutty Buddy as they left no message, but I have never gotten any calls from a restricted number prior to her.
I am composing a firm, yet hopefully kind, text message in my head to send to her.

I hope all of you are having a wonderful day wherever you are and that you are feeling good.

What a nice care package! Your friend sounds so sweet. Great timing with the restricted phone call. Hopefully the text message will do the trick. It's uncomfortable to have to avoid someone like that.

Have fun coloring and munching on the caramel corn!

Omg nuttbuddy, I so wish I had penned that. That's its tho girl stay strong I know from experience make a bold straight no grey areas statement. Any wee chink will continue it. Nicebuddy wee gift for you tho, good for you to get something that makes you smile

@Hip Hip Hooray! and @Legin, you both make me smile. :)

Yes, my friend is very dear. I'm so thankful to have her in my life.
Interestingly enough, after speaking with her yesterday evening, initially to thank her for the goodies, but then the roomie subject came up, I think I will take her advice and just stay silent for awhile.
My friend is a clinical psychologist and expressed concern over the attention seeking and manipulative aspects of roomie's behavior. She made a great observation, saying that 'silence IS a response' and perhaps the best one for now unless the situation would happen to escalate.
Her point was that sometimes people take any response, even negative, as an opportunity to up their game.
She felt it was possible that responding might open the door to a 'but why don't you want to talk to me' dialogue and further the interaction.
I can see the wisdom in what she's saying.
So, we'll see how it goes. Hopefully she will move on at some point. We'll see.

Have a great day, Hippies! :)

I so agree with everything your friend suggested. Especially, the staying silent part. Eventually, Nuttybuddy will get the hint and stop bothering you. If she does have any personality issues, any interaction with her might be misconstrued. And, what a wonderful friend you have to provide you with soul soothing gifts. Every time I go shopping, I always look at the coloring books for adults, but have never gotten any. I may have to rethink that. But, then it would be another habit I would get into, that would take time away from me getting outdoors and enjoying this wonderful fall weather we are having. Although, there's plenty of rainy, cold days ahead and the coloring books may keep me away from my iPad for a while. Hope you are doing well, my friend!

@Nana757, I have also looked at the adult coloring books before (that makes it sound slightly naughty, doesn't it? :heehee: ) and thought they looked like fun, but never really considered getting myself one. I'm very grateful she sent me one because I love to draw and working with colored pencils is my favorite medium. I tried it out a bit yesterday when it was rainy and gray and it was very soothing.
You are SO right about the gorgeous weather today! I absolutely love the look of autumn sunshine. It is mellow and golden and the air is simply beautiful.
How are you doing? I hope you are continuing to enjoy your bowling and golf. :)

Thank you for popping in and sharing your own brand of cheery sunshine with me! Enjoy your day, friend.

I'm finally back at home and catching up on my BS buddies to see how everyone is doing and just read about the Nuttybuddy roommate - yowza, she sounds like a piece of work! If it were me, I think I would be so exasperated by now that I would go ahead and compose the text message and send it. Beyond that, if she continues to try to contact you, I would simply ignore her and hope it doesn't take too terribly long for her to finally get the message. Sorry you are having to deal with this.

Your care package, on the other hand, sounds Mah-ve-lous! Sounds like a very thoughtful & considerate friend. Enjoy your goodies!

Hi, @Hipster Girl! I'm so glad you're back at home and hope you're feeling good. How many days did you end up being in the rehab facility?
Yaay, that you have your surgeries behind you! :)

Yeah...Nutty Buddy, she's a trip. No worries. I promise not to just let it go on indefinitely. I haven't had any calls since the last one from the restricted number, but if they do continue I have what I think is a good text all locked, loaded, and ready to go.

I look forward to hearing about your experiences! It looks like I'll be having my second surgery on November 24th. We're just trying to get everything locked down for my pre op appt since it was changed, for some weird reason, to a day when I was unavailable.
Oh well, it will all work out.
Take good care of yourself, Hippie Friend.

Well Friends, I have my date for my second THR: November 24th. Time to buckle down and make the necessary preparations home wise and also get ready to get this second surgery behind me.
I'm taking many deep breaths and thinking good thoughts. :)

Wow @DeepBreath that is less than 3 weeks away so you are going be busy with your preparations but it will be absolutely wonderful to get the this second one done and dusted and gain two great new hips.Congratulations.

Thank you, @Kim22. :) I'm ready to get this behind me. I've decided not to stress about preparations too much. I'm going to get some help in the form of pre-made frozen dinners instead of laying in 25+ myself. I'll do a few of our favorites and then will happily admit that I don't need to do it all. :)
I have much more confidence going into this surgery. I know that my husband, while he may do things differently than me, can handle things until I'm on my feet again. I also know that a lot of the things I was worried about before my first surgery were unnecessary.
Thanks to you and Hipster Girl and others, I know that getting both of those shiny new hips in place will really be a launching point to living a fuller life. I'm ready for that.

Thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate your support. :)

Good idea @DeepBreath it's a good idea to make life as easy as possible for you pre and post surgery.Your husband sounds terrific and it is good that you know that he will cope so well during your second recovery. It certainly makes sense to have both of your hips done so close together when the experience of the first is still fresh.Mine were two and a half years apart and you do tend to forget lots.I will follow you through the next one.

:flwrysmile:Oh my goodness @DeepBreath! That's right around the corner! I know you must be just so excited to have the 2nd hip done and out of the way. I'm so happy for you, knowing that you will soon be on your way to living, pain free, and enjoying what life has to offer! And I'm sure your dear sweet hubby will take just as good care of you as he did the first go round.

Congratulations, @DeepBreath. I'm so glad it worked out for Nov. 24th. That will be here before you know it. You'll have your new hip in time for the holidays. You're smart not to stress about preparations. You know what to expect. It's great that you have your husband to help you.

@DeepBreath I ended up only being in the rehab facility for one week this time which was plenty. They were in the process of switching from two 90 minute sessions each of OT & PT each day, to four 45 minutes sessions, and went from more one-on-one therapy to doing more group therapy and I wasn't a fan and wasn't getting as much out of it this time. Now that I am home I am doing the PT exercises I learned from the last time and I will be starting with home PT within the next couple days.

I am so excited to hear that your second surgery is now scheduled! I know it's coming up fast but I think you will be so glad you are doing them close together. I know I couldn't imagine doing it any other way. We are already in the surgery/recovery mindset so I think it is just easier to plow thru with the second while we are already in that mode. This process can be so draining that I can't imagine having them far apart and having to gear up for it all over again.

The timing is perfect in my opinion. With your two shiny new hips and new lease on life, you will be good as gold for the holidays! :happydance:

THANK YOU all for your sweet words and encouragement. I do feel ready to get this behind me and concentrate on recovering with both hips done. Of course this whole process is made so much easier with the support of awesome people like all of you.
I truly am blessed to have a great spouse to help me through this as well.
Hipster Girl, I'm glad your rehab stay was shorter this time. I can understand how the switch in their PT approach wouldn't be as appealing. Group stuff just doesn't take the individual into account. I hope you enjoy your sessions with your home PT and that you see steady improvement heading into the Holidays. :)

Well, I had to use my prepared text to Nutty Buddy this evening.
She called and left another rambling voice mail and I knew it just wasn't going to stop simply by ignoring it.
I just told her that I am fine, but that her calls and messages are making me uncomfortable, especially from all the different numbers to include the restricted ones. I told her I wish her the best in life but my text would be the end of our contact...period.
I so hope she respects that.
I'm annoyed with myself because I feel terrible about having to send her the text.
I know the only other choice was to put up with unwanted contact from her, but it isn't a good feeling to say 'shove off' to someone. Oh well, it had to be done.

Have a good night, friends. I hope all is good with you.

Good grief hold your breath, deep breath ooooops got another surgery penciled in. Re the lady I know it is really difficult but the fact she went to more than normal measures to make contact with you did say a line needed to be drawn. So OK stop feeling guilty as continued contact would not only get you down it would also affect others ie hubberdubber. You have other things to deal with like getting ready to make that last farewell to arthritic hips.

Legin THR Sep 14

Well done @DeepBreath and please try not to feel guilty it was something that you just had to do as you need all your energy for the next surgery and one thing you don't need is someone sapping your energy levels and dragging you down.

So glad to hear you have your second date @DeepBreath You "will" have so much more confidence having just done this and not having to worry about doing it again this time. You learn a lot post op and learn how to adapt. The best thing I did was buy that covered container that attached to my walker. I could take stuff around the house on my own, carry things I was always dropping or spilling. Wishing you the best. And praying for a private room for you or a mentally stable roommate :praying:. I somehow ended up in a private room with the second surgery it was great, although I had a great roommate the first time. I went home the next afternoon but so didn't get to enjoy it long.
