@topgun, hello and thanks for peeking in! I hope you are doing well. :)
@Kim22, yes, I so agree that naps are important for our recovery. The energy drain is like nothing I've felt before...even being a brand new parent and so sleep deprived. Of course, that was approximately 600 years ago.
@CricketHip, you are adorable. Your post made me :heehee: and sit up straight and say, "YEAH!" Your kind words meant so much. So, done and dusted. First thing this morning I called the physio place and explained that I wanted to go it on my own until the doctor clears me for weight bearing and then I would contact them and make arrangements for PT sessions that wouldn't be using up my alloted amount for little gain. You were right. Getting that done made my outlook much brighter. I could face the day without the thought of Mr. PT smirking at me and stinking up my house with his ashtray odor. (No offense to those who may smoke....it's everybody's own choice. He is simply the kind I can tell likely chain smokes and in the car on the way to appointments. It rolls off of him)
So, no more Mr. Smirky. :yay:

Today is my 2 week anniversary, the sun is shining, and I have that burden off my back. THANK YOU, Hippie Friends for listening and your support.
I hope your days are going well and that your weekend is filled with happiness and progress.

**Edited to Add** I just noticed my designation changed to 'Senior'. Yaaay! :)

yayayayayayayay! woot woot! Good for you, @DeepBreath ! I am so glad that our comments helped you gather up your reserved strength and dismiss him. You most certainly do not need someone bringing you down.
Happy 2 week anniversary to you! Gosh, I can just feel your femur and hip healing, clear over here!

I would write more but I feel a nap coming on..

Well done even your post had a lifted feel to it.

Legin THR Sep 14

Thanks, @Legin. I did feel much lighter after making the decision and implementing it. I hope you are well today. :)

Well done on getting rid of that PT. Frankly I would not let anyone who smoked that heavily near me. Somehow PT is supposed to be healthy - heavy smoking is certainly not healthy! Will they assign someone else when you are off the restrictions?

Hello Deep!! So, how is it going in VA. today? How are you doing with the toe tap walking?
Are you able to enjoy a good shower with the limits? I hope so, I probably wasted way too much water this morning, but it felt so good, especially on that nervy shoulder and neck.
I walked this morning and then promptly had to have my nap.. shhh! don't tell that jerk PT guy, he may hunt me down. :gaah:
I hope you are enjoying the same sunshine that I am enjoying

I chose not to get a prescription for PT. My surgeon gives us the option of doing it, or going back to our own exercise routine. I found that just taking care of my house and garden was plenty. I continued the basic exercises, but just 30 reps a day, total. I did them about 5 times a week. Sometimes I fell asleep while resting between the exercises!

With a cracked femur, I would have really backed off. I'm glad you aren't going to work with him anymore. My PT in the hospital told me, "I have to show progress." She seemed so high pressure. Yuk. I made it very clear that I wasn't going to do things that made me throw up. That's ridiculous. Then she asked me if I had anxiety. "No," I answered. "I just need to lay down." I think being around her made me nauseous.

The second PT I had at the hospital was much more empathetic. It really made a difference. She told me that she had broken both of her legs, and that she had RA. So, she got it. She could see that it hurt me to walk. I just needed a few days. Seems like common sense to me...animals do it.

@Jaycey, thank you. :) Yes, the case rep said to contact them when I am full weight bearing and they'll assign me a new therapist. Thanks to Bone Smart I'll know what to look for in a physical therapist. I look forward to finding one who can help me with my gait and range of motion. I've had hip issues since birth and have always walked stiffly and for several years, a limp. Hopefully, I can retrain my body to walk correctly.

@CricketHip, it's overcast here today, but so mild and with the most delightful breeze! I am enjoying it to no end. :)
I had a hankering for a big salad, so my husband went to the store and loaded up on fresh veggies. I made one of those 'everything but the kitchen sink' salads and enjoyed that while watching the leaves dance on the trees out my window. :) Oh, the showers! It truly is the small things that matter the most! Heavenly.
I'm so glad you're enjoying your lovely walks and naps. Patooey to the PT guy! Maybe he should take more naps.

@Hip Hip Hooray! I hear you about the PT. Your account of the obnoxious PT horrified me. What a complete jerk.
Your second PT sounded amazing though.
I really do think empathy is a key component in this kind of situation. It's just not going to work if you're simply a name on a sheet atop a 'To Do' check list. You can't slot people into neat little boxes that way.
I hope your weekend is going well. :)

Hello @DeepBreath so glad to ready your cheery report, the 'everything but the kitchen sink' salad sounds great. I have to make a list today all my 'planned' meals have been depleted, a big salad will be at the top. Sending happy, healing vibes to you, enjoy your day, your weather sounds just like mine here.

@DeepBreath , the first two weeks are the worst and those are behind you now. You are at the point where I found things start improving very rapidly. Sending warm wishes your way and hope you have a great healing day today!

Thank you, @Legin and @Hipster Girl. :)
I was just thinking this morning how much stuff is crammed into the first few days/weeks post surgery. It's a lot to settle into, but settle in we do.
I slept from 11:30 - 6:55! My longest sleep since before surgery. It was lovely.
I think there's another giant salad in my future.
Have a great day fellow hippies.

Chortle, sleep and back to really enjoying food, you are so doing well.

Oh my gosh @DeepBreath! I hope you didn't think I abandoned you. I have not been getting any of the alerts on your thread. So, I've just caught up with your life and recovery. I am so very happy that you were able to dump that obnoxious PT guy. Sounded like he was stalking you, just to be able to give you a hard time about sleeping. He should be fired! Now, you can recover at your own pace and sleep without feeling like you're doing something wrong.
Hasn't this weather been glorious? I'm loving the open windows with the fresh air blowing in. Have a wonderful day, dear, and enjoy your new found freedom!

Awww, @Nana757, I would never think you'd abandoned me! I don't get all of my alerts either...curious glitch in the system, I suppose.
Oh my goodness, our windows have been thrown open wide all day long and the sweet breeze is heavenly. I love this time of year. I hope you've been able to get out and enjoy it. :) Tomorrow is hubby's birthday and we're all going out for a good steak dinner. I'm looking forward to the eats and the outing!

I am very glad I don't have to deal with the PT guy any longer. His intrusive behavior really was insulting. Every once in awhile I find myself in a similar situation. I'm not sure if it's because I'm a shorty or because I tend to be rather soft spoken in person, but every once in a blue moon I come across someone who takes it upon themselves to 'school' the little nincompoop. Luckily, I've gotten better at baring my fangs.

Have a lovely evening, friend! I hope you are well.

Woo-Hoo, personal victory today! I was able to accomplish my shower routine all by myself.
The process is made a bit challenging by my toe touch weight bearing restriction and involves two of the simple frame walkers (one for inside the shower and one for outside), as well as being mindful of having everything in place prior to beginning.
Usually hubby is in close proximity to offer assistance. Today he was just in the next room within hearing distance, so I decided to give it a whirl. Success!
It's good to make those gains in independence. :)
Hubby was proud, but made me promise to only do this when he's at home until I'm weight bearing. I think that's reasonable.

Have a wonderful evening, hippies!

That's awesome @DeepBreath! Those steps towards independence feel amazing, don't they?
Are you using a shower seat of any kind or do you use the walker inside the shower for support? (Curious because I am ready to stop using the 3-in-1 to shower on and looking for alternatives)
