THR Day 1 surgery day

6 week update and doc appointment:

Doc says latest xray looks great, liked the way I was walking ( I stood up for the appointment (without cane) while he sat down (it felt better)) I told him about my off and on butt/thigh pain and he said it was still early and it may or may not be a returning sciatica ( I had pre-op). He ok'd me for swimming and driving (my pool opened 2 weeks ago). So a friend is coming over and we are going water walking this afternoon!!! Still have some shoulder/neck pain, prob from pulling my old garden hose while trying to water front and back garden. I bring my cane and picker upper but both tend to fall during the watering. A real comedy routine for the neighbors. Still icing whenever sitting or laying down, oxi once or twice a day ( go overnight without it) Tylenol about 2000 mg per day. Biggest problem this morning was finding a bathing suit that fits post covid ( I had lost 35 pounds in 2019...) lol

Sounds like good progress @cetch1! Do be careful with water walking, it's easy to do too much with the resistance of the water and a little less weight on the joint due to the water makes you feel like you can just keep going. As long as you start slow there have been many members who found water therapy helpful in recovery.

Pool walking is great, I couldn't wait after my 1st to get in the pool and just walk. It's easy to over do it and real easy to pivot the wrong way but it feels great.

The pool was fabulous! Some old friends were there and ended up staying in an hour ( not walking the whole time). Came home and made a stir fry and I am def tired now!

Great update... Sure is hard once we get to feeling better and are weary of the hurry up and wait schedule to find the lines so we can stay out of the ODIC.
Glad you are feeling better and hope you might share some of your spring pics in the social room.
I have included a few in my neighborhood while I take part in the STEPS challenge.

7 week update:
Got vaccinated 2 days ago ! ( Johnson & Johnson). Some arm pain ( ice packs came in handy) and tiredness but seems ok now. Have taken it easy but now ready to get back out there- have been walking a mile a day, watering garden, even did 10 minutes of very modified Zumba. Can sleep on either side and have been on stomach too (briefly). Pain level 4-5 but has been mostly neck and shoulder last couple of days ( think due to vaccine). Hang in there everybody!

Hello and Happy Friday!
Thanks for the update! It seems you’re doing well. Another week and it will be your two month anniversary already. Time flies in recovery more so than we imagine going in.
Stay in touch and have a wonderful weekend!

Two months plus a week and ODIC CLUB:
Feeling so good about 4 days ago, I did 3 days in a row shooting (10lb camera) including a hike up uneven ground to do butterflies, carrying camera and chair to a Rookery shooting site and a mile around a wildlife pond. All of these sites in one long morning twice! Third day I “relaxed” by weeding, cleaning and a late afternoon shoot to the ponds. So here I am with sharp thigh pain if I walk more than 5 minutes. Had to take 1/2 oxi after being off it for 3 weeks and confined to recliner and icing. Think my sciatica has flared. Hope all those “A” types take heed and go s-l-o-w-l-y as you recover.

It's easy to do and many of us have done it. It's hard when you start feeling good but unfortunately this recovery just keeps on going and bites you when you're feeling the best.

I sure hope your time in the ODIC was short lived. Sorry to hear about it.
It’s been three months to date since your surgery and I hope all is well.
Happy Three Month Anniversary!

Leave an update next time you stop by, we’d love to hear how you’re doing.
Have a wonderful Spring / Summer!

Wow Can't believe 3 months have passed since my surgery! I am so back to all my exercises and wildlife photography- am walking with 10 pound camera 2 miles daily and often do water aerobics in my pool in the afternoon. Sleeping on sides, stomach, don't think about it much. Haven't felt this energetic in years. Occasional tylenol for arthritic soreness (not hip) and daily Mobic. Never thought I would ever feel this good again.... Good luck and patience to all !
