THR Cpollock Surgery June 19, 2017<

Hi everyone. My hip is still giving me some twinges now and then In the butt area but is settling down. I'm just getting ready to leave for Calgary now with my husband and parents. 3 hour drive and were staying overnight. Mom's appointment is at 950 tomorrow morning. I think they mat schedule her for stent surgery but we will see. Her legs are achy and feet cold so with swelling also I'm sure it's circulation issues. We have a 3 hour drive home tomorrow again so not sure if I will be in touch for a couple days. I wish you all well. Cheryl

I have that rear end thing now and again too, Cheryl and we're only about a week apart.
I notice it mainly if I am driving too long. Annoying but tolerable.
Have a safe trip to Calgary. Prayers your mom gets all sorted out and gains some relief.
Hoping you can snatch a little R&R while away.
Let us know how all went when you get back and have a minute.
Wishing you a great week! @cpollock

I think I'm that pain in the posterior @cpollock take care of you and mom don't be stressing on when you can post. HUGE HUGS. I thank you for the information on the pie I just can't eat fruit pie every day before surgery. After it's fiber :yes!:

Cheryl I hope for a good outcome for your mom and hopefully your husband feels better.
Bread is my downfall I'd live on it if I didn't gain so much weight. When living in California I'd pick up San Francisco sour and get an extra for the ride home. Just eat the crust and toss out the dough.
I hear you with the weird random pains.ill get them just above the side of the knee. Out of know where then gone.

Cheryl, I hope your mom can get some answers and solutions today. And I hope your husband tolerates the trip well. As for you, I know you are one tough lady and you'll do just fine! You just need to try not to overdo

Sorry Cheryl....hijacking your thread for a sec..
@Gone again
You got my first laugh of the day......
Living in Cali...picking up an extra loaf of sour dough for the ride home, eating just the crust and tossing out the dough. Picturing it you can't help but laugh out loud!
Thanks for the laugh.

HI everyone and thanks to all of you for thinking of me. My Mom's issues are not circulation and her leg veins are great which is awesome news. Her problem is diabetic neuropathy and at this time another pill for the nerve pain will not be added because of unwanted side effects. She's been diabetic for about 10 years and on medication for it, it's type 2. So she can take tylenol when it's uncomfortable and do the tens on the uncomfortable areas when needed. What a relief. The big thing for me right now is my husband. His rheumatoid arthritis has flared big time, I didn't think it could get any worse but it has. He's swollen in most joints and in such pain and hardly sleeps. His hands are especially bad and sometimes close right up and he can't open them. His wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck, knees, and feet are not good. Then the costcondritis comes for a few days then goes away then comes back, that's in the breast bone rib area and it hurts to breathe. Then yesterday the jaw and it was hard to eat. I'm taking him to his GP appointment this afternoon for a full medical. He goes back to the specialist December 5th so we are hoping the new biological drug he was given at his last appointment will work by then. They said a month before he'd notice improvement if it's going to work and he's been on it now 2 weeks. Its a needle once a week. So I'm trying to work full time and care for him when I'm home plus do house stuff. It's very challenging.
I'm still limping if I don't use the cane and no limp if I use it. I still have soreness if I press in the area by the bottom of my incision. And if I'm up on my feet too long I get the pain in the butt area. At work is challenging with sitting any length of time and I may need to request a new chair. I'm going to talk to my boss tomorrow about it. I take occasional tylenol still. It's now 3 months, is that still considered early days Yet? There is a lot I'm still unable to do but I'm being patient and listening to my body. I try to focus on the great things I can now do that I couldn't before and most of all that bone on bone pain is gone. I best get on with things here. I'm off Mondays and will be in town this afternoon so I have stuff to get done before we head out. Gary is still in bed but he can stay there a couple more hours yet. Take care everyone and I wish you all well. Cheryl

Hi Cheryl, @cpollock
My oh my you have a lot on your plate.

First, I'm happy to hear your mom got some answers and hopefully
the Tylenol and Tens will do the trick for some time to come.

My heart goes out to your husband as his RA sounds quite involved! I guess after the pain, loss of mobility and fluidity we suffered, it's easier to imagine the discomfort of the widespread pain he's suffering. Hopefully he is a good candidate for the pharmaceutical he's trying and soon finds relief. It has to be difficult for you to stand by watching and feeling helpless. I imagine it's a stressor for both of you. The Costcondritis is something I've never heard of and how scary it sounds!

Working, caring for your husband, trying to keep up your home and still in recovery yourself is a lot.
I will remember you in prayer as you navigate through this daily. I hope you're able to get the rest you need and restorative sleep at night. Did you every try sitting on a ice pack at work? It may offer some relief....I'm thinking gel packs or the flatter ones with the little beads inside....might be worth a try if you haven't already.
Wondering also if really concentrating on heel-toe walking would help with the limp. It really works for me.
Let the heel strike the ground first, then the toes. It works well but I can still get sloppy if I don't concentrate.

Hope you get some answers at your husbands appt today....
Wishing you a peaceful week.

@cpollock Cheryl, you don't have a full plate, you have a full bushel basket! My heart is so full for you. I'm glad your Early Days Yet (yep, 3 months is absolutely early days) are going reasonably well. You are challenging the hip with your work and that not-so-good chair. Lots of people do indeed sit on ice. I hope you can walk around your desk a few times throughout the day, too. I have a 5" thick piece of fairly dense non-memory foam slipcovered in a pillowcase, which I carry with me anywhere I think the chair will be too hard. I just can't do metal folding chairs, and some plastic ones are just as bad. When I use it at concerts, I have a black pillowcase! I've used it for a good 20 years now. During recovery, I put it on my desk "rolly-chair" which has a shaped seat that doesn't do a new hip any good. I seem to be fine with this chair now, but then I'm taking way more drugs than you are, too.

I don't know what to say for your husband, except that his misery is to me unimaginable. I too hope and pray that the biological treatment turns out to work for him. It certainly has an uphill battle now, but maybe that's the dark before the dawn...I hope so!

And you mom! SO grateful it's not her circulation. That doesn't solve the neuropathy problem, but it sounds like she can work through that with the pain relief methods.

Use your spare time to rest, if spare time is even a concept for you these days!

Thank you @Layla for your kindness and the ice at work idea. I never even thought about that but will definitely give it a go tomorrow. This will be my first 4 day work week since June so I already know it will be tough. 10 hour days....
I will take a cushion for my chair too tomorrow @zauberflöte, I have my roho cushion at work which was fine preop but seems too hard now.
Right now I'm focusing on getting enough sleep at night, I seem to need at least 8 hours so I will do my best on work nights to get that. All we can do is take it a day at a time and do our best while trying not to overdo things. I wish you all well. Cheryl

@cpollock Many Prayers for you, hubby and mom...

I wonder why they didn't give ma Gabapentin for her pain....

Hubby's case sounds very sad. He needs to see a specialist for RA at a major University

YOU need a vacation too much on you.

Mega Prayers

@cpollock Glad to hear your Mom is ok. So sorry your husband is so ill with RA. I can only imagine how difficult things are right now for you. I've been back to work since August 28th and I'm managing ok just very tired at the end of the day. Good chair a must at work and cushion. I'm not limping but still have Left quad weakness and butt pain if I overdo. I walk around in my house without the cane but use it at work and when shopping etc. I think it helps if I'm overly tired and muscles are sore. Take care. Good luck at work!

Hi everyone; I won't tag all of you this time around; I appreciate all of you thinking of me and posting on my thread. I'm just taking a break now at work; this is day 4 and I've survived the whole work week. I'm a little tired but doing okay. I have the boss's chair to try out and it seems to be okay. My chair will need replacing. My hip is still feeling somewhat stiff and it's tender to touch in spots and some numbness still too. I limp without the cane but that is even improving a little and I'm supposed to use the cane yet til the end of October according to my surgeon. At home a lot I seem to lose it or knock it over if I have it hanging on the counter. Then I'm looking for my husband or my pick up tool to get it off the floor. I'm not able to pick things up yet at floor level but that will come. I can get things off the bottom shelf now in the fridge so that's progress. I occasionally take tylenol but not very often. I'm very happy with my progress and so glad to be rid of that OA pain preop. It's now 3 months; the whole summer has flown by along with that ugly bone on bone pain with it. My grandson Noah is coming for the whole weekend; he will go home later Sunday afternoon. So I will have Sunday evening and Monday to get what I need done to start a new work week; plus relax time. Noah hasn't been staying over as often since my surgery but it will be nice to have him more often now. And maybe in a month or so I will try and take my grandaughter Everleigh for a night and see how that goes. She's 15 months old and the surgeon said I couldn't pick her up from the ground up for quite a while. So, my husband needs to be in better shape to help more. I can still do diaper changing and meals etc... just not lifting her up yet. She can still snuggle with me and sit on my lap though etc.... Life is good. I wish you all well. Cheryl

Hi @cpollock
I hope you had a great weekend with Noah. I recall how you enjoy his company. Those little ones
are such mood lifters.
Wishing you a great week, Cheryl...

Fill us in on your weekend when you get back. I imagine it's hard to go from fun with Noah to the usual work, hubby and balancing all but YOU I know can do this. You're awesome
