THR Cpollock Surgery June 19, 2017<

Lol you think I'm nuts @cpollock well don't answer that...if I look that brownie pudding up I might be tempted to make my hubby make it and then I might try it...
Noooooooo!!!! Sounds yummy though.

Too bad you don't live by me I've got lots of healthy veggies from my MILs she let's the Amish farm it...you could make lots of healthy salads for lunch pasta and veggies.

Good luck at work tomorrow Prayers for you and your hubby.

Sorry for the confusion, I have one more day off. Not back to work til Wednesday.
@MyAussieGirl I would love fresh veggies if we were closer for sure. I buy some veggies from the greenhouses and Huber farms. Also there is a farmers market on Saturdays that I haven't been to yet this year that sells lots of things. I love healthy stuff to snack on at work, it keeps me going. Plus I need to take off more weight and I'm sure walking more at work will help a lot. I tend to eat fairly healthy most of the time anyways.

Cheryl, I just want to wish you well as you head back to work tomorrow. You were looking for lunch ideas and hard boiled eggs can be a good choice. They are also good cut up in a garden salad for lunch. I'm sure you have plenty of good ideas. Your homemade soup sounds like a good one.

I hope your husband is feeling a bit better. I'm not familiar with RA but it sounds terrible.

Sending good thoughts your way for a successful first day back tomorrow :yes!:

Thank you @GrannyC on wishing me a good first day back to work.
I have a hard boiled egg in the morning usually with yogurt to start the day. I take a smoothie to work made with fruit and have that mid morning. It's going to be some hot days the rest of the week here so I'm hoping the ac is working good at work. I've been mostly resting today, did some light housework and stuff. I feel a slight improvement with my limp, a ways to go but I'll take it.
My husband has improved some but not enough. His mood either, hehe. So it might be good I'm out of the house the next few days. I wish you well. Cheryl

Sounds good on your meals for work and hubby improving body wise. Mood maybe time but you're right getting away and back with your routine will be good for you

Hey @cpollock . Everything you cook sounds so yummy.
I want to come to your house.
My home cooked meals are chicken added to a bagged pasta side, nuked green beans, and womp-um biscuits (the kind you womp in the counter.
Thank goodness my better half cooks real food most of the time.
You will definitely be worn out and sore when you get home so how he understands you will need time also to see about yourself when you get home.
Look after YOU, too.:loveshwr:

I'm sure you will find this week tiring but you picked a good time to return since you will only have 3 days to work and then the weekend to recover before starting again.

It sounds like your husband also suffers from some depression in addition to his RA. If he would be open to it, maybe his GP would prescribe something mild to help with that. It certainly would be a help to you. Unfortunately most men don't like to admit they need it but it would make life so much more pleasant for you both. Just a thought.

I hope your first day goes well and I'm glad your limping is diminishing slowly. It just takes time but be sure to follow dr orders and still use the cane until the limp is completely gone. When you take a short walk at work, just keep saying heel to toe, heel to toe over and over and over to remind yourself so it becomes a habit and the limp disappears!

Hi Cheryl, @cpollock
Wondering how your first day back to work was? Did it feel like you never left, or was it a challenge getting through the day? You sounded ready and well prepared. Hope you're not too tired and that you have a restful evening. Also hoping your husband is getting some relief from his most recent RA flare. It has to be very difficult.
Wishing you a great rest of the week!

@cpollock Cheryl, how are you doing? What's that you say? We won't hear from you until Sunday evening? Because you're too busy sleeping? :rotfl: That's ok!

I hope your first day back was full of warm welcomes, people holding doors and liftable objects for you, hugs, laughs, and generally a good experience.

@Mojo333 "whomp-um" biscuits I never heard that and I am cracking up! We used to have those when we went camping. My mom would put butter in the skillet over the fire and FRY them-- not bad at all! I used to make a whole recipe of real biscuits and freeze most, then take them out for suppers when the kids were little. They both remember homecooked meals....warms my heart!

@cpollock See how we are hijacking your thread while you sleep.
@zauberflöte ...I converted to "whomp-um" biscuits after my first failed attempt as a young mother with homemade biscuits. You could eat one if it was within first 2 minutes after exiting oven, then they turned into break your teeth rocks. (Too much baking powder?)
Any who, when hungry Jack made those lovely 50 layer buttery biscuits, I said...yep, good enough for this working mom.
Hope you are resting Cheryl:sleep:

@Mojo333 Biscuits was the first thing I learned to cook, age maybe 10 or 11! I make very good biscuits and I'll teach you how! (hint-- don't handle the dough hardly at all...)

Thank you all you lovelies (too numerous to tag and don't want to forget anyone) for thinking of me on my first day back to work yesterday; I appreciate all your encouraging comments. @mogo333 no problem hijacking my thread; do it anytime; hehe. I too can make biscuits that turn out pretty well - excellent with a pot of homemade stew too or leftover with jam. Yummy; now I'm hungry for stew and biscuits; hehe. And I believe when you fry the biscuit in a pan it's actually called bannock and was an Indian tradition I believe and they are awesome and simple to do. I used to make them camping in a cast iron frying pan.
My first day back went better than I expected; I thought I'd really tire out but I took lots of breaks and the work kept me going (when I felt like doing any; hehe). Mostly I went through a ton of emails - had over 800 to go through and most got deleted. I have 3 on line courses to do now but the deadline isn't for a bit yet. I'm a little tired adjusting to getting up at 5:15 and getting to work by 7 but that will come. I usually was up around 630 or 7 most mornings while I was off and haven't had a need for a nap for the past month. I usually forget my cane when going around the warehouse; that's where my office is located and I have to venture out there quite often. I haven't need a pain killer yet and have been up a fair amount.
I wish you all well. Cheryl

Such good news, Cheryl! You sound great. Sounds like a smooth transition,
don't know about 800 emails though.....yikes!
Not feeling the need for naps, forgetting your cane and not needing pain pills....Yay!
Sounds like you're well on the road to recovery.
Wishing you a great weekend!
@cpollock

:wowspring::loveshwr: Sounds like work went perfectly. Try for now not to forget your cane put it where you will walk into it if you start to stand up. I agree with Mojo you're be one awesome cook. Me it's eat out or mega easy stuff.

Mostly I am thrilled you're feeling so well at work. Huge happy hugs

Thank you everyone for your wonderful posts; the encouragement from you all is appreciated. I hear you @Gone again with extra canes. I started getting a pain in the buttock area off a couples inches from the incision. It's like a sharp stabbing pain that comes and goes; it started last night. Even in the night it woke me up a few times and it started this morning again. So, I will make sure I use the cane; I think I may have stressed the muscle there from not using the cane around the warehouse. I haven't taken a pain pill for it yet but have put arnica gel on the area and will continue that til it subsides. That's my only complaint.
I enjoy cooking @MyAussieGirl and like to try new recipes sometimes and try to stay nutritious. I don't care for processed food but occasionally is okay for something quick I suppose. I won't use margarine; it has to be butter and my flour is not white enriched either. They say the flour is stripped of all nutrients in the processing and then a few are added back in and that's why the call it enriched. I get my flour from Costco in a big bag or from Co-op. I've done my research and have learned to read labels. That's my lesson for the day; take it or leave it; hehe.
Today is Friday; yay - Fridays are quieter and I may get some work done today. I was left on my own a few hours yesterday and the day before so didn't get a lot done - other than sorting through emails and paperwork. I'm now organized to get to it. On Sunday my husband and I are (if he's well enough) are going with my Mom and Dad to Calgary. My Mom has to see a specialist first thing Monday morning so we will spend the day in Calgary and and the night - it will be a nice outing. My Mom has a problem now with her legs and her doctor referred her because he thinks she has poor circulation in her legs - there may be a blockage. Her legs ache if she's on her feet any length of time and isn't able to walk a lot anymore. From what I've read they can put a stent in where the blockage is - amazing what they can do to improve our lives. Take care everyone; I wish you all well. Cheryl

@cpollock Cheryl, 800 emails :yikes: :shocked:you've got to be joking! I am so glad you know how to deal with that. It sounds like you're taking the return to work in a very easy fashion-- I like that, and your hip does too, despite that stab in the rear.

I hope your husband is coming out of the painful time, and will want to go to Calgary with all of you :) I hope you have a wonderful time painting the town red!

Here is a happy-ending story about my mother-in-law and horribly poor circulation in her legs. She smoked for 75+ years, heavily. At about 90, after a couple of strokes, two pinned hips, &c &c, she was told that if she didn't stop smoking she would wind up with amputated feet, as her circulation was so compromised. Her family stopped buying her ciggies, she had the stents installed, and died with Both Feet Still Attached at 93, just this past June. That story ended well, and I hope that medical arts can help your mom equally well.
