THR Cpollock Surgery June 19, 2017<

Cheryl, This is profoundly sad....but hold on to hope. God has a way of healing hearts and turning these situations around.
Prayers that they'll soon be blessed with another opportunity that will bring you all joy unlimited!
Sending a hug your way @cpollock

Thank you @Layla You are kind.

I'm going to give a try at vacuuming today and see how far I get. I think I can hobble around a short time without my cane. Even if I do a room and hour. I have dusting to do as well and need to disinfect the kitchen sink and counter tops. I did the 2 ugly exercises from PT already, I do them 3 times a day and focuses on the gluteus. Doing a little more will keep my mind off a couple things, good for the soul. I'm doing okay, some pain and soreness on the Hip but manageable enough. I'm just so glad that wheeled walker is history. I use the cane but if I'm doing things in the kitchen I set it aside, need both hands. I wish you all well. Cheryl

@cpollock so glad to read that you've ditched the walker! I know how much you've been looking forward to that milestone. Don't overdo with the vacuuming and cleaning. Dust bunnies are friendly, or at least the ones we have here are!

Sending virtual hugs and prayers for your family during this sad and difficult time. May knowing that others, far and wide, are holding you all close in our thoughts bring you some comfort.

:catdance::catbutterfly::mooncat::meow:. @cpollock glad you're keeping busy fixing the place up for you... that's good self care...much needed right now I am sure. I switched walker with cane a lot then forgot them both you will too I am much farther out time wise than you are

Thank you @313Lola . I never vacuumed, just some light things. My husband took over the vacuuming when I asked him to bring out for me. It's a rainbow and you need to fill with water and a lot of bending. But I thought I could push it around if it was set up for me.
I am glad for the cane @MyAussieGirl and hope it's short-lived but we will see. Not at this point yet.

I've been focusing on 2 exercises from PT on Tuesday. They are the side leg raises and clam shells. I do 10 reps 3 times a day. I've noticed stiffness and wasn't able to lift my leg that high due to weakness. PT told me it was the gluteus muscle that was cut that needs strengthening and then I would be able to walk without a limp. So I thought I was healed more and to follow his advice.

Last night I kept waking up with soreness and a tingly and sometimes stabby pain. My incision doesn't look any different and the pain is more on the other side of the incision on the buttock area. I also have soreness in the front area as well just above the groin but only when I move. I've been up a few hours now and have been puttering in the kitchen making yogurt in my yogurt maker and emptying the dishwasher etc so was on my feet quite a while. I just had breakfast now resting.

What do you think @Josephine I'm 8 weeks post op tomorrow and am concerned. Anyone else get this type of pain 8 weeks or so out.

I wish you all well. Cheryl

@cpollock
Hi Cheryl, I'm sorry you're suffering pain....if you read this soon and are able to locate one of those pain diagrams Josephine frequently posts, you could better describe your pain to her and possibly get an answer quicker.

You could edit the post where you tagged her, adding that info to your post.....just a thought.

Just looked....and there's a pain chart posted under Dickie1 - Thread title: severe pain after 15 months.

The areas of pain are L2B and L2F areas. I took Tylenol a while ago and icing and elevating. Tramadol soon. @Josephine what do you think?

Please do not try vacuuming just yet. It will only end in tears.

I'm not a medical expert but from my experience these 2 exercises did nothing but cause pain. They are not needed and I would suggest stopping all this. Ice, elevate and rest.

Sorry - have been out all day.

Sorry, those are just the column references. In order for me to use this information, I need a row reference too.

Well there's a surprise! You need to read this BoneSmart philosophy for sensible post op therapy and be refreshed on my opinion that side leg raises and clamshell are pernicious exercises, almost designed to cause pain!

The remedy is fairly obvious!

L2F R S and L2B ST @Josephine are the coordinates. PT even wanted me to do the straight leg raises with ankle weights which I didn't use. This is the 2nd time I've had pain from PT but this time is pretty bad. I just wanted to confirm with you that these exercises were the cause. I've stopped them and won't be starting them back up. I'm hoping the flare doesn't last long so I can do some walking. I'm convinced that's all I should be doing. It's even tender to touch.

Thank you too @Jacey and no I didn't end up vacuuming, I was going to try though til my husband took over. I still have sheets to change on my bed I was going to try but now with this set back I won't be trying that til the pain settles down. I will stick to light duties but nothing today. I thought maybe I had a bursitis or something happening.

Like this, then?

I can identify both these ...
Red one is Psoas pain. I have that from time to time and while exercises aren't actually responsible for it, neither do they help it any.
Blue one is indubitably Piriformis syndrome and is a right bear to deal with. Sadly it's the bane of many hippies and often comes with Piriformis syndrome as well.
PT even wanted me to do the straight leg raises with ankle weights which I didn't use.
Good for you!

Yes, this is exactly right @Josephine but oddly I never had any of this til I started the straight leg raises. I read the articles, thank you. I just hope it settles some in a couple days, I won't resume these exercises for sure but hope to do some walking soon again. So I'm icing and sitting in my recliner liner with legs up. The tylenol and tramadol have helped some finally as well. Thank you for looking at this for me, I sure appreciate it. You're the best. Cheryl

For your psoas pain @Josephine have you tried the self Massage? Would it be safe for me to try that at 8 weeks post op?
