Revision THR Continuing left hip pain

Do you think they could have told you that at any time before you calling them?

With as little information as doctors give us without being asked, is it any wonder we resort to Google for information?

They really didn't say much before or after the procedure .I don't remember hearing that.

Since I'm a glass half full type of person (most of the time), I will take this opportunity to tell you that there's still a good possibility this is going to work! It's hard to be patient when you're in pain, but be patient!

Aww, I'm sorry you're hurting and feeling discouraged.
Hopefully it is something that will ease over the next few weeks and you won't need to
concern yourself with Plan B. I can certainly understand your apprehension after all you've been through.
Sara's way of looking at it is something to focus on in the days ahead, unless your situation changes.
We're here for you if you need us.
Wishing you comfort and healing.
@ebair23

I sure was hoping you would see a more marked decrease in pain.
I'm unfamiliar with the procedure but do try to baby it all you can.
Its been through alot of trauma that needs to settle.
Sending healing thoughts your way

Appointment next Friday. Still having issues. Still hurts. not much difference at all. . . . . . :bawl:

So sorry to hear that! Insist on a new plan A!

I agree with SaraK - insist on a new plan!

Were you ever able to get an MRI done? Have you thought about seeing if you can make an appointment with a revision specialist (one who is not in the same practice as the other doctors you have seen)?

My issue started with groin pain to the point I couldn't find a comfortable position to be in. At first they thought the cup was a bit mis-aligned, but it ended up being the screw protruding into my psoas.

Like you, I had nerve blocks, etc. that didn't work.

Please continue to push for a "new set of eyes" on the issue!

Marvy, I haven’t had an mri done on my hip since before the surgery. I did have one on my back when they thought that the pain may be coming from there. The doctor who referred me to pain management was a revision doctor.

Poor @ebair23
I do want to see your thread title changed from Discouraged to Hopeful. If makes me sad to see how long you have been discouraged.:sad:
Please be aggressive in advocating for an MRI or whatever you think they could order test wise to get you some answers. I am keeping my fingers crossed for your appointment on Friday.:console2:

As Mojo said, I would keep asking for a MARS MRI. If the revision surgeon won't order one, then I think it's time for revision surgeon #2. Even when I found out that it was the screw, the radiology report totally missed it. So if you are able to get a CT or MRI, make sure the surgeon looks at the images and doesn't rely solely on the report from the radiologist.....

I'm hoping that your appointment will go well and he will look at other causes of your pain.

ps: my original surgeon also ordered an MRI of my back as he was convinced that it wasn't anything to do with my hip. That's how I also ended up in pain management.

Yep, I asked my surgeon to be evaluated for psoas impingement and he sent me to a pain management doc who only looked at my back. Took a few months and several PTs to get to MRI that was inconclusive (didn't even mention the psoas). Frustration let me to a sports med ortho that one of the PTs had indicated had helped someone with similar problem.

You are your best (and sometimes only) advocate. Don't be afraid to see someone else and ask questions (and question their diagnosis if necessary).

Thanks guys. I’m trying to stay positive. I just don’t understand why I can’t get relief. Even the pain medicine doesn’t help the sharp pains I get. Ugh. Frustrating. I appreciate all the well wishes!

Hugs :console2:
Keep at it, prayers someone figures this out soon so you can get the relief you deserve.
Please stay in touch, we're all rooting for you.
Wishing you comfort.

Gee - so frustrating and difficult for you right now. I hope you can find better insight from a different surgeon. I've had one orthopedic surgeon tell me that my only problem was PSOAS tendinitis, while another diagnosed a torn labrum and recommended THR. I decided to throw my lot with the first surgeon, who arthroscopically released the tendon, repaired the labrum, and scraped away a whole lot of other mess in there. It didn't work. I had some short term pain relief, but never could progress to walking without pain. I returned to the second surgeon and had the THR, and so far, so good at four weeks. Fingers crossed.
It is troubling that two highly experienced surgeons can have such different opinions. It takes an act of faith on our part to decide whose advice to follow.
Someone will be able to help you, and I certainly hope it is sooner rather than later.
@ebair23

Ok pain management appt today. Ok. They bumped up my dosage and the kilograms of my pain medicine and also gave me pukey meds. Wait a month and see from there.

Hello.
This has gone on for way too long and obviously no one knows that better than you, the one who is suffering. My heart goes out to you, Erica. I hope you gain some relief through adjusting meds. Keep in touch, we care. :console2:
@ebair23

If you don't mind me asking, what sort of meds? Are they giving you an anti-inflammatory or just a painkiller which might just mask the problem (i.e., not a real long-term solution)? Unless the meds have the ability to "cure" the problem, is this really the answer?

Just upped the pain medicine, which I don't like taking anyway. (makes me feel sick) I take ibuprofen for inflammation. I just don't want to be in constant pain. I don't think that raising my pain medicine will help. Just prolong the fact that there is something wrong and needs looked at.
