Revision THR Continuing left hip pain

I'd give it at least 6-8 weeks to see if there is any recession in the pain and improvement in your ROM.

Thanks. I just don't know what is normal. I know everyone is different, and I don't expect a super quick bounce back, but I AM only 42. I have always been an athletic person and I guess I just wished for better.

Been really struggling with a high front of my thigh pain the last few days. It's up toward my incision and feels like someone is stabbing me with an ice pic. It seems to only be if I walk, and not all the time. I find I'll move wrong and then my whole day is a mess. Through all of this I found out that when it comes to me. I have absolutely NO patience. Have a great weekend! TGIF!

Quick question. I have recently started to have a popping sensation in my operated hip. You can't hear it but if you put your hand on the outside of my hip and I walk, it pops 90% of the time. It never did this before. I am now like four months out.

Thank you. I have looked at these. in my case, the popping can't be heard, just felt. this is the same?

Thanks.

Ok, I'm gonna be whiny but I don't know where else to turn. I have been hurting again. This pain is making it very hard to sleep and walk. It mainly hurts when I try to walk. By the end of the day it is so disturbed that it hurts all night. It's like an ice pick being jammed into my thigh. Upper front and groin pain. I am so bummed. I just don't know what to do anymore. I had a good couple of weeks. Now back to this stuff.

I keep being told to do nothing. That makes it worse or makes it hurt more. Is just normal daily walking is too much?

I would call my OS and ask for an appointment and perhaps an X-ray to make sure.
Forgive me if I don't remember when your last check was.
But if you rule out prosthetic issue, you could see if it is muscle or nerve related.
I would just need reassurance!

Thanks and it has been a while. I'm not sure when either.

Truthfully, all I am getting from my Dr is "It may take up to a year to heal". He is not concerned. While in the mean time, I have days I can't walk without assistance. I have called and I get nothing but that response from him.

the popping can't be heard, just felt. this is the same?
Freaky, isn't it? First time it happened to me, I was walking, and it felt like a tiny guitar string being plucked in my thigh.

As for your pain, I suspect your OS, Dr. Heartless Sadist MD, won't get excited unless it's directly related to the metal and plastic bits he put into your leg. Maybe try your regular GP or a sports doctor. Layla's right: go for the reassurance, and see if you can get some relief.

:rotfl: I Do believe you hit the nail on the head with my Dr. I have an appt with my GP Friday morning. I'm going to add this issue to that appt. I don't know, but i just don't feel right.

I keep being told to do nothing. That makes it worse or makes it hurt more. Is just normal daily walking is too much?
I don't think anyone on here ever told you to do nothing! Quite the opposite. If you remember, my advice was this

Stop all these - they are what is causing your pain. They are also totally unnecessary because ...
Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

And are you still taking no pain meds? Because it sounds to me like you really do need them.

If you recall, I suggest this but my feeling is that you completely ignored my advice ...
So I suggest you take 1,000mg Tylenol every 6 hrs routinely. If this doesn't help well enough, then see your GP to get something a little stronger such as Tramadol and you could take 50mg of that 2-3 times a day as well.

Ok, first of all, the only thing I am currently doing is walking. (exercise wise) I walk as long and as much as I can, but don't overdo it. I ice and I also take it easy when needed.

I have had so many surgeries that past two years on both of my hips (4) that the Dr doesn't want to give me more pain meds. I have an appt with my GP on Friday morning, and will talk to him about something stronger than the Tylenol I currently take. Truthfully, this pain I have didn't really go away much when I WAS taking pain meds.

I haven't not taken people's advice. I DO take it. I would try anything to make myself feel better. I am over this whole pain thing. I wouldn't just disregard what people suggest. I am sorry if all I ever do on here is complain and whine. I just don't have others to talk to about what is going on.

@ebair23 Gosh you have had and are still having a really rough time, pain is so lowering to us in spirit and movement, we go into these hips full of hope and a new life free from pain, and the results leave us in such a difficult place. I hope your GP sees sense and gets you on a good pain reliever because it doesnt really sound as if it was well controlled, I take regular paracetamol and tramadol together and this seems to work for me,but, if i think i wont have it tonight, gosh i am paying the price today because the pain has got slightly edgy, stupid of me to think i didnt need it.

Of course you are doing everything you can and thats the frustrating thing, like you i would do absolutely anything to get well. Keep smiling i know its hard to try and stay positive but, in the long run it does make you feel better. Big gentle hugsxx

You mention 4 hip surgeries, what has been done?, I didn't see anything else about that. As far as a popping or clicking I had some of that too, a little earlier on than you. It was another "strange sensation" of which there have been quite a few on this road to recovery.
I'm ahead of you by a month or so. Back at the end of May beginning of June I had a setback, my doing by overdoing, and I had many new pains. I was to the point of thinking I knocked it all loose inside, but once I came to grips with it only being tissue pain I rested it and it finally cleared up.

Thanks for the support all. I am really grateful for it. :thankyou:

On the subject of my surgeries, this is how it all started. I was having pain and popping in both of my hips. After going to the Dr he saw that I had FAI and torn labra in both hips. I had my right side done first and healed great. I then had my left side done. This did very little to help the matter so my Dr elected to do a revision surgery on the left. After that second surgery didn't help ease the pain and problems I was having, he decided it would be best to do a total hip replacement. Been a tough road for sure.

I know you are but what I am saying is that even this walking is clearly too much.
I have an appt with my GP on Friday morning, and will talk to him about something stronger than the Tylenol I currently take.
Excellent!
Truthfully, this pain I have didn't really go away much when I WAS taking pain meds.
That's what I wanted to get to the bottom of. It's not unknown that when people say that, I find they are not taking a good enough dose or with regularity.
I haven't not taken people's advice. I DO take it. I am sorry if all I ever do on here is complain and whine.
Honey, I do know you do take the advice. Please don't think I'm nagging you about that. It's just sometimes there are little tweaks I can suggest that might help.

And never, ever think that you have to apologise for 'whining'. That's exactly what BoneSmart is for and exactly why I and the rest of the staff are here. To give you a platform to whine in and vent your feelings but also to see if there might be some little thing we can suggest to help.

Whine away. We'll listen, try to advise and offer encouragement.
I'm sorry for your longsuffering, it must be frustrating waiting to heal and feeling like you're not making progress. Hopefully you get some answers at the appt with the GP on Friday. Please let us know how it goes.
Prayers for your comfort :console2:
@ebair23

thanks guys. I will keep you all updated.

I'm sure you are very weary of the pain.
Sending healing hugs your way!
