Revision THR Complex Revision poor outcome Ehlers Danlos

Thank you all Bonesmart friends for your prayers and well wishes! Surgery at 3:00pm this afternoon. I've just passed the last drink for the day, so now it begins!

Oh Flower, how awful for you! Prayers going up and sending you some good healing energy.. You deserve to get a good resolution this time.
You have many of us rooting for your good outcome.

Last night sounds so very painful..:console2:
It was terrible. The paramedics had to get me out of a corner and carry me downstairs. Then at the hospital taking the exray was so painful.. the nurse had to come and give me more meds to finish. I wouldn't wish dislocation on anyone. Hopefully no more dislocations after today!!

Thinking of you and hoping you’re resting comfortably and that your pain is well managed. Wishing you lots of comfort as you begin healing.

My surgeon "Rocks" as my grandchildren say!

Surgeon was late so didn't get started until 5ish last night. I was back in my room by 11. They got me up to walk about 11:30. I was amazed that the pain I had for 8 months is gone! He replaced the liner with thick constrained liner and changed the ball size to a bigger one.

The PA came in to see me. She said I was doing great and could go home. After a 21/2
Hour drive, I'm home in my own bed icing, elevating and taking my pain meds. Tomorrow I can shower! All this to say there IS a big difference in doctors! Make sure you get your questions answered to your situation. Believe me all doctors are not created equally!

Thanks to all of you for your prayers and best wishes!❤️

Just forgot to add that I'm very itchy! Opioids
Really make me itch all over. I've been using Benadryl. Expired doesn't work.. husband went and got some new. It helps a a lot but doesn't take it away completely away. I'd love to hear if anyone else has suffered from this awful itch!

@Flowerfloosey69 ,
Glad to hear from you and that you are doing well! Hope you find some answers to your itching from the opioids.

Here is your copy of the Recovery Guidelines, the articles are short and will not take long to read.
Pay particular attention to the Big Tip.

Hip Recovery: The Guidelines
1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:

rest
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)

3. Do what you want to do BUT

a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.

4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these

5. At week 4 and after you should follow this

6. Access these pages on the website

BIG TIP: Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

Congrats on your new hip! It is wonderful to read you’re home, resting in your own bed and realizing that horrid pain of eight months is gone! I’m sorry you’re dealing with the itching. It may improve as your body adjusts to the opioid. Hopefully the Benadryl helps, but if it doesn’t you may want to contact your surgeon’s office to discuss alternative options. I wish you lots of comfort as you begin your healing journey. I look forward to following your progress. I hope you get some restorative rest and relief from the itching overnight.

This is fantastic news! So pleased for you.

Well, except for the itching. I remember @Zoebichon had this. She said it was terrible on Day 2 (sorry) but reported it was much improved on Day 3. So hopefully it won’t last long. But do check with the OS, they may be able to switch your medication if that is causing it.

Great news that you are home and everything went so well. I hope you can get some relief from the itching. Keep posting on here pleas, it’s good to hear how people are getting on.

:wave:So glad you are through the surgery and can already tell a huge difference with the pain level.
I'm sorry for the itching, an unfortunate fairly common side effect of opiates.
Hopefully, the reaction is shortlived....

Congrats and what a great relief to have it behind you and home!
Keep us updated and surely hope that itching goes away soon.
Stay well.

Thank you for all your posts! They keep me going.

I had a shower this evening so I feel much better! lol

I think I have a lot of pain ahead of me but for now I'm taking one day at a time.

will do! Surgeon called in another drug to help but it conflicts with two of my favorite regular medsso I'll just tuff it out..

Yes, on my second night, I itched from scalp to toes! I was very careful not to scratch vigorously but still managed to cut the top of a toe while scratching with my other toes! (My husband took very good care of that tiny cut to avoid any infection).

After that one itchy and sweaty night, I don’t recall itching again.

So glad the itchiness didn't continue!

I was taking two over the counter Benedryl and started feeling dizzy. I looked it up and it's worth reading if you have itchy problems taking opioids,

I've been prescribed another medication but haven't tried iit yet.

If you have followed my case, the PA that assisted my surgeon, said when they got in there, it was obvious that my revision was very unstable Anteriorly! The more I learn about my first surgeon, the glaring difference between the two surgeons, become apparent!

Thank you all for your support during this very hard time.my surgery went well and it's amazing to have Home health support.I really think after this experience that my revision surgeon last Nov probably is burned out and needs to retire. The difference has been quite amazing!

Today I received a personal call from my recent surgeon just checking up on me at my one week mark. There has been so much support, quick responses to my calls and emails.

I am wondering when all of you took off your wound dressing? I have been told I can remove it today but I am scared to do that.

Would love to hear from you!

The doctor told me that when they examined the revision that was done in Nov, they could see why it was so unstable anteriorly. They made a decision to not only give me posterior precautions, but also anterior precautions. They are extremely limiting and I have become very paranoid about dislocating.. The Anterior precautions are for 12 weeks. The posterior 6 weeks. They did not change out the cup but put in a much thicker constrained liner and a bigger ball.

I have barely left my bedroom, have not ventured downstairs, and when I sit on the toilet, (sorry if TMI) it feels like it could dislocate. I'm so worried!
