Revision THR Complex Revision poor outcome Ehlers Danlos

Ugh. You had 4 dislocations ? Why does this keep happening ? I had 1 at 18 days . I’m a nervous wreck. I hope they can figure it out for you.

I've been following your posts. I so wish you the absolute best care in the hospital for your infection.

Interesting thoughts.. wondering how many of patients that have posterior replacements/ revisions have pockets of fluid drained after surgery? I am in the hospital with an infection
Causing extreme redness around incision. They caught this early and I am receiving broad spectrum antibiotics. This came on almost 4 weeks postop from second revision, and I began to have a lot of pain and difficulty walking.

My OS ordered a drain to be put in and I am receiving iv antibiotics until the culture comes back. I am amazed at how much fluid has been drained, and I guess the pressure from it was causing pain.

Well, it has come down to a misaligned cup.

My first revisionist was a very poor communicator, and sat back after 3 of my dislocations anteriorly. I ended up seeking
A second opinion and he read the surgical notes from the first revision, and immediately could see that the first OS misplaced the cup so it wouldn't dislocate posteriorly, so much so that all 4 dislocations happened in the opposite direction. I have Ehlers Danlos, (faulty ligaments, connective tissue, tissue
Tension) that contributed to the dislocations.

The second opinion was a top surgeon and he did not want to replace the cup that is misaligned because of my bone health (osteopenia). A very extensive consultation with him led to a constrained cup and larger ball.

I was standing up when all 4 dislocations happened. I utterly couldn't figure out what was causing it until the second opinion.

My thoughts are, if you keep having dislocations, it might be wise to get a second opinion.

Hugs being sent your way and so sorry you are among those of us who have experienced dislocations post op!

I’m glad that they caught this early, and that you have an explanation for the pain. I so hope this will be the last nasty surprise that comes your way. You deserve only good luck for the future.

I found out this afternoon that this nightmare isn't over yet. Both my revision surgeon and local surgeon on my case have completely agreed that I need to have another surgery to "clean out" the surgical site and place antibiotic beads inside. So.. tomorrow Aug 19th I will be back in surgery. They will place a Pic line first because I will need 6 weeks of antibiotics and my veins won't be able to handle it.

Just catching up and missed the updates you shared since Tuesday that you were admitted to the hospital. I am so sorry you have to go through this after all else. I pray you are resting comfortably after yesterdays procedure. :prayer:

@Flowerfloosey69 hopefully things went well on your latest surgery and you're just taking a break to relax. Hoping you'll update us when you're feeling up to it.

Oh no, catching up and so sorry to hear that you have had yet more surgery. Thinking of you.

I'm sorry to be so slow in updating!
Last Friday Aug I had a "clean out" and they left antibiotic beads inside. The surgeon said she found "a mess " in the joint capsule and was so glad they had gone in. I waited another 48 hours but no cultures never grew anything. Hummm?? Tuesday the Picc line was put in. I didn't feel a thing but was nervous about that. The hospital was very poor at communicating details so for several days I had no idea what was happening. My Medicare insurance was inadequate even though I have Part "A,B,D, and F. Time to look over what your Medicare policies coverage is.
I won't belabor that here but to tell you I was almost forced to go to a rehab.

Another drain was placed and it was accident. The swelling and pain was extensive and they put an ice machine on it.

That had helped but cannot do without pain pills

Today went to my first infusion. It was only 30 min. as they changed my antibiotics. I'm in a lot of pain today. Will update in the morning again.

Oh heck. You are having a rough time. I hope you will see improvements day by day. Hugs to you.

No apologies necessary on updating. We love to hear from you, but certainly understand these are trying times both physically and emotionally. As much as this has been amazingly difficult for you, I am glad to hear that you are still able to advocate for yourself. Please know that folks here are following your continued fight for healing.

Thank you to all who are reading my journey. In all my years of knowing,...... this kind of stuff could happen, it never did... until now!

Be careful, rest, ice, and let your body recouperate! There is so much talk here on Bonesmart about how fast you can recouperate.. my advice.. don't push it! Take care of yourself.

The difference between "pushing" an infusion and a "drip infusion"

Medicare has my husband and I a little confused( not hard to do these days)

Medicare refused to cover a home health nurse to do infusions at our home. Because Medicare wouldn't cover it, Aetna part B would not pay the copay. The hospital told me it was the Vancomycin. Because Medicare offered to pay 100% if I would go into a rehab hospital for 6 weeks. Because the rehab options are so very poor in our community, I absolutely declined. So my best option was going 7 days a week ( 5 to infusion Ctr, 2 to ER) the reg hospital said part of the reason was Vancomycin.

So.. when I was discharged from the hospital with agreement I would return each day for infusion, I noticed the antibiotic had been changed but they said it still needed to be infused. I was reluctantly agreeable to that option. I went to infusion Ctr for the first three days then I was instructed to go to ER after three days because it is the weekend.

When the ER administered the infusion.. they did not use a drip.. they did an IV push.. the nurse told me they had been doing that since the COVID pandemic and had never gone back to hanging a drip.
So to sum it up..
I don't see the circumstances that force me to go to infusion ctr?
