THR Cisne on the other side

@Cisne as you have learned - it's far too early to cut down on your meds. When you start forgetting doses that's the sign you are weaning off them. For now - take as prescribed. Early days for you!

@Jaycey ! I know. I've got to stop thinking I'm Superwoman. Back on pain meds as prescribed. Yesterday was my birthday and I had a quick lunch out w my family and a quick dinner ou w a dear friend. Minimal walking, but I've overdone it. Icing and elevating.

Happy belated birthday Cisne. Warm wishes going your way!:dogwalk:

At only 2 weeks out of major surgery this is way too much activity. Please take it easy!

@1GreatGran Happy birthday! Hope it was wonderful.
@dougie0216 I'm hanging in there. I'm being lazy today. I've only done a little PT. Mostly hanging out in bed and surfing the net/reading. My pain is way better thanks to the melds. My waterproof dressing came half way off today in the shower and after talking to the nurse at my surgeon's office I removed it the rest of the way. The scar looks pretty good I think. About 4.5 inches long. The area at the top looks like it might be open a bit, so we will see what the nurse practitioner has to say about that.

Cool, you got to see your scar. Mine still has the tape sutures on it. They gave me more and I am glad. The trip to the Dr and back caused a lot of swelling. The edema then looked for a means of escape, and it found one. I had walked outside to look at my jalapeno pepper plants and felt something wet on my leg. I looked down and there was a wet spot on my shorts and shirt, some liquid going down my leg and I thought I better check this out. They removed the dressing earlier in the day and a couple of the tape stips had come off where the TED hose crossed the incision. We replaced the tape strips, covered that area with a smaller dressing and I iced and elevated the rest of the day. I got the swelling down, the tape did its job and I had no issues today.
So if you have some swelling and the dressing is off, take care of the swelling.
In have a small dressing on mine but it is open at the ends. It is just covering the new tape
In 7-10 days from yesterday they said if the tape started falling off it is ok, but to replace them if they fall off now. I guess I know why. There was not any fresh blood, just pinkish clear liquid.
Aside from PT and walking today I have probably been elevated and iced for 10-hours, no kidding. I have zero pain at present. Not even a 1.
I don't know why the top of the incision is the last to heal, it probably has something to do with the way they spread the incision. My wife's shoulder is the same way.
I'm not taking any chances, I am not wearing any elastic anywhere near the incision until it heals. When I wear the hose, I fold the top down so it won't ruin anymore tape!
I played a lot of angry birds

Hi All! Home from my post op and waiting to head to PT in a bit. Overall good news-incision looks good, but is not fully closed at the top. I'll need to keep that part covered until it closes. I was given the okay to drive as long as I'm not taking the oxy. I'll continue with PT for a bit longer. No more TEDs unless swelling gets worse. I'm also finished w aspirin and leg pumps for DVT prevention. I saw the nurse practitioner today as my surgeon is out of town. I'll follow up with him in a month for my six weel

A question: I have a burning, itching, sensitive feeling over most of my operative leg-mostly anterior and lateral. Some areas have partial feeling while others have normal sensation. This seems to be made worse by light touch, for example, pajamas touching the skin. Normal? Abnormal? @Josephine
Thanks,
Michele

I had that off and on for a full year following my THR. It gradually decreased and then disappeared. Hang in there! It gets better.

Thanks @alexthecat ! It's driving me nuts. Funny how and área that is numb to touch can have so much sensation. Burning coals or bee stings anyone? Lol

I know it! I remember being in the shower and water running over my hip was agony. Firmer pressure was less problematic.

Michele, some nerves grow back. If it is itching and burning, that means a nerve was slightly injured during the operation.
After my LTHR, most of my upper leg had pins and needles and the center of that area felt like I had been kicked by a horse. It all seemed to radiate from a spot just below and to the left of the bottom of the incision.
Now, 3-1/2 years later those sensations are gone. There is one small area about 2 inches square just below and left of the scar, where the skin has no sensation, but the tissue underneath has feeling. I cant tell if it is cold or hot but I can tell it is being touched.
It is way to early to worry about it, chances are the tingling will go away over time and you will get most of the feeling back.

Michele, no, I never did mention it to my surgeon. By the time I had my THR, I'd already had many other surgeries. I knew it was all part of the healing process, so I didn't think much about it.

Definitely abnormal. Sounds like Neuropathy to me. Go see your GP.
