THR Cisne on the other side

Hi everyone!
I overdid it today. I went to PT where it was determined that I have a pretty significant limp (didn't really have one before), so more time w the walker. Then went to lunch w the family. Way too much sitting and walking. I'm home, have taken melds, and have iced. Other than exercises, it's bed for me.

Day 9: I got a full (almost) nights sleep! I've been having a lazy day-other than little walks around the house, I've been reading and elevating. I'm going to leave the house tonight to go to Mass. my other outings (PT, coffee shop w a friend for an hour) have lead to rough evenings/next days. That said, getting out for a bit does wonders for the mood! I see the PT again on Monday and we will talk re the cane then. My limp is still significant so I guess we'll see.
Take care,
Michele

Good luck Michele, I am trying to not over due it but things need done. When I am feeling better I will post about how my 1st day home has been. Kate[emoji254]

Oh Kate! @Kimmer so glad to hear from you. You've been on my mind. Yes, I'll look forward to hearing about your journey! Be well!

Guess there's a bunch of us in the a-little-more-medication-works-better club - I too am doing much better after adding Tramadol. One about 5pm, one at bedtime, maybe one in the middle of the night - makes all the difference!

I also experienced that low-grade temp and feeling out of sorts, especially in the afternoon. Got the same advice: move a little, do deep breathing, help the body regulate temperature. My nurse said to keep in mind the incredible reconstruction operation underway - microscopic bone fragments being removed, tissue damaged in surgery being cleared away, new bone and tissue forming, etc. etc. Guess it's okay if the surgery site get a little hot, there's a lot of work going on under there!

@ScenicRte ! Thanks for checking in!im glad the Tramadol is making a difference for you! How is recovery going in general? What approach did you have?
Take care,
Michele

Anterior, thanks! I've been completely happy with the results so far, even though in some ways I'm having a bit more pain now than I did before the surgery because I was so immobile. But there's a big difference - post-surgery pain is temporary. There's been a big Improvement in just the last couple of days.

I added a long post to my recovery thread - lots more information there.

Happy Healing!

I carry the cane with me when I go for a walk. The home health nurse and the PT person both kind of did a double - take when I answered the door without a cane or walker.
Sounds like things are improving for you. I have not really slept well in 6 mos. I look forward to getting a good night's sleep without aid of pain pills and muscle relaxers!!!!!
My next Dr appt is Tuesday. It is a 70- mile drive to OKC. That means over two hours in a car up and back. I'm not too worried, but we are taking some refillable ice bags along. I'll walk and do PT really good tomorrow and declare Tuesday an off-day.
Are you tired of lying around most of the day yet? I sure am.

Hey! I skipped my middle of the night dose of Hydrocodone and had the best sleep! While it keeps the pain in check, it also prevents me from sleeping. Im playing with not taking it today. I have PT at one, but other than that, it's a pretty low key day. Cabin fever? Oh, totally. My Facebook feed is full of friends at Pride and on vacation. I just remind myself that I am healing and already having successes. Next summer should be hip surgery free!

Home from PT visit 4. Using the cane for most outings, with the walker for a backup if increased pain, tiredness, or long trips. I walked without anything for the PT but still have a limp, so no going without. Curious hoe much numbness you guys are experiencing. Most of my lateral thigh is numb along with a couple other spots
Michele

Pain is definitely manageable. It hurts after I walk and do PT because of swelling. The hip itself doesn't hurt. What hurts the most is where the top of the TED hose goes right across the middle of the incision. There is some drainage there as well.... I have cut back on the hydrocodone. I Have a pill chopper so I am talking half pills. I may take a whole one before I do my PT exercises.
I am guessing your pain is better?

I had significant numbness with the LTHR, and none with this one. The numb area is gradually shrinking on the left. A friend of mine had an anterior approach many years ago. He can't feel any skin sensation below his knee...

Wow! Looks like numbness varies lots by person. My pain was better and then I had new stuff at PT and decided to make a quick trip around the grocery. My IT band is pretty unhappy right now, I've iced, but need to ice some more. I have more pain walking w the cane. I'll be happy when my ted hose are no longer needed and they are only knee length. I'm guessing you have the lovely thigh highs?

Yes I do for 4-1/2 more weeks:sorry: I have to travel 70-miles early in the am for my first post surgery checkup. I'm not too worried. Pain and swelling are both down markedly. I walked and did at least one set of all PT exercises today. There was an exercise with the rubber band that triggered a leg cramp after 4-reps. I quit then. It did the same thing yesterday so I am tabling that one until I seen the therapist later this week. Obviously I am doing something wrong.

Good luck with the appointment tomorrow, I'll be excited to hear how it goes. Maybe your body just isn't ready for the band exercise yet. I made it almost 24 hr w/o my pain med, and took 1/2 tonight. Walking with the cane feels more painful, so I gues we'll see how tomorrow goes. Sleep well!

I will. I still swell after PT/walking and if I stand or do too much. I'll be in a car tomorrow so I know it will swell then. I have several refillable ice packs. There are going with me.

My biggest problem is figuring out which pair of shorts to wear tomorrow to go with those fabulous stockings.

I was wrong. The PA said I could lose the TED hose in the daytime but should continue to wear them overnight for the next couple of weeks.:yes!:

Yay for shorted Trd hose time! I'm sure you rocked them with whichever shorts you picked out. I'm sure my workout clothes, teds and bright pink cane make people do a double take. Oh, well. If I have to use a cane, it's going to be cu! How was the rest of the apt? Looking forward to mine on Thursday, and getting rid of this bandage

Actually I went in wearing grey Nike Dri Fit shorts but I was rocking a lime green bike tour tshirt.
The appt was very short. We talked about hip replacements being like having babies. Some times it is easy and others not so much. Basically she saw me walk in, asked about my PT and how much I was walking? She told me hose were optional, have a nice day and see you in 5 weeks. I saw the PA for less than 5 min. But I have been there before, not only for myself but also for my wife. I met the very same PA in the parking lot two months ago when I was attempting to push a cart with our belongings on it trying to go home after my wife's 3-day stay for shoulder replacement. It was windy, I was limping, badly, and she helped me get the stuff to our car. As I was thanking her, profusely, I mentioned I was having a hip replacement in two months at the very same facility. She asked who was doing it? I told her and said that was funny because she was a PA and she worked under that doctor and we would meet again.
She saw how I walked two months ago (with a cane) and she saw me walking today, without; so it was a short visit. They also removed the dressing. No staples, they glued me.
Isn't this exciting? Good luck on Thursday:thumb:

Sounds like a great apt! How nice to see the PA with whom you had a positive interaction. Between your wife's shoulder and your hips, you are the bionic couple! I'm up tonight because I did something dumb, and replaced my Percocet w extra strength Tylenol. Bad choice. Now I'm up, stiff, and in as much pain as I've been in. I did take my medicine. Just waiting for the med to kick in.
