THR Cisne on the other side

Definitely less pain the past two days. I walked for 15 minutes today and am now home resting and elevating. PT in the morning and I plan to ask about the neuropathy.

I hope the symptoms clear up for you. Yesterday was like a big turning point. Hip pain is down to 1 or 2. Today will be my second day at 1/2 pill every 8 hrs.
I split PT into early am and late afternoon sessions. I take a half after each session and before bed. I walk subscribing upper body weights in the am. Torture exercises in the pm. I was able to do two sets in almost everything this pm. However, towards the end, the right hip said stop halfway they second set on a couple of exercises.
I hope your nerve is just PO'd and settles down for you shortly.

@dougie0216 So glad to hear things are going well! Just got back from PT where we addressed the nerve pain and limp. I'm supposed to try to desensitize the area by rubbing a light cloth on it. After watching me walk he decided to try a makeshift heel lift which helped. The thought is that the difference is functional and not physical. If it doesn't settle in a couple of weeks he will talk to my dr about a lift to even things out. In addition the lack of extension in that hip is limited. Not surprisingly because of how the hip was dislocated in surgery. He doesn't want me working on extension because of the risk of dislocation. So, looks like the cane and I will be buddies a bit longer. Still, given the lack of real pain and increased ROM in general, I'm thrilled with my hip and outcome. I'm down to my daly Meloxicam and taking Tramadol as needed. Yesterday, I used two. Oh, and evidently my 15 minute, 3/4 mile walk was too much. He told me no more than half a mile.

Yes, My walks are limited to 1\2 mi for now as well. Therapist just left. She said she would come by once more in two weeks, she said she would go see people who needed therapy in the meantime. That was good to hear. Be good.

Hi Michele ; Dougie!!! Great news on your wonderful progress!! Michele I read your posts at kesdt 4xicer to give me encouragement! I am having my RTHR here in NYC AT HSS. This Friday 6-23!! I am get the spinal also...how was it waking up in recovery??? I met with all my Drs down there pre op and was told I will be numb about 4 hrs after surgery...I hope I am not aware enough to panic ....I hate when u don't have control and are numb..they can give me anxiety meds if this occurs...you both are an inspiration to me for sure!! Keep posting on your progress please!! I will be joining you on the other side soon!! Continued great recoveries :)

@dougie0216 -Wait, you're telling ME to be good? LOL. You be good as well! I'm not sure the drs and PTs know what to do w us! Glad you got good PT news! Keep me posted!
@Donnarita It really wasn't that bad. I remember chatting w the recovery nurse-our boys go to the same school, putting in my contacts, and being asked to wiggle my toes. I was still really sleepy so I fell back to sleep and woke up in my room. I was told in my pre-op apt that I'd be able to wiggle my toes before I could feel them. I remember being numb a split second before falling asleep pre-op, but it wasn't a big deal. I had feeling back by the time I got to my room and was awake. I'll be checking in on you-you'll do great!
Michele (sitting here with a hip that doesn't hurt!)

Ok, be good at it:snork: it is up to you, I have fallen short. I needed to get a CD out of my car. It didn't hurt sitting in the passenger seat. So I tried sitting in the driver's seat. Next thing I knew my car was driving itself around the block:shrug:
Actually I needed to know if I could drive it. My wife goes back to work Thursday and she will be driving her car. I could go to town if I had to. It is only 3.5mi to town. I would not want to be in it over 10 min. I'm afraid I would swell.

@dougie0216 Yay for driving success! I may try again tomorrow. I way overdid today which resulted in my needing the first hydro in several days. No nap, plus too much activity equals pain and glute spasms. Ouch!
@Kimmer Thinking of you and hoping you feel better everyday!

@Donnarita.. I had a spinal also, don't remember being away of being numb. I drifted in and out of sleep for a little while so maybe that is why. I am 7 weeks post posterior rthr.

Day 20: well, I guess saying how pain free I'd been has come to bite me in the.... hip! Yesterday I went to PT, did a quick shop and then headed home. Something convinced me that the hardwood in my bedroom NEEDED to be mopped. It didn't seem such a big deal as I've been doing light cleaning, my own laundry, and a bit of cooking. Well, by bedtime I was uncomfortable enough to take the first hydrocodone in days. Woke up this AM to pain everywhere. My hip didn't want to move, and when I tried to stand it had a massive spasm. Almost fell-though I didn't. Today has been spent in bed with ice for my hip and heat for my back and glutes. More hydrocodone. Lesson learned.
Michele

Michele, my having to move quickly after spraying wasps didn't work too well either. I did my PT this afterrnoon. A little tired but no pain. We'll see if the quick movement set me back any in the am.
@Donnarita The spinal was a non issue. They gave me something in the IV to 'Relax' before they took me to the pre-surgery area. I don't know if they have me a local before the block, but I didn't feel a thing. My leg never was numb. I came to in recovery 15-min after surgery and I had control over my leg. Very different than the first surgery which was loads of morphine and no block.
The block worked very well for me and was not painful. While the entire surgery was not a pleasant experience overall, it really wasn't horrible. The first hip was horrible.

You're doing what I mess up and do sometimes.. too much. But it is hard to tell when you're feeling good then crash
Prayers and Hugs

@dougie0216 ! You hit the nail on the head. It's hard to know when to say enough! Thanks for understanding. Just back from PT, reassured that I didn't do any damage. Oh, and while my friend Pam was here I drove-just a quick five minute drive, but I did it! Much better experience than Saturday! Now that I can drive the challenge will be to not overdo and think that I'm back to normal. Still, so thankful for improvements!

TY Dougie!!! I prob am getting nerve block spinal same as you...They will sedate me like when you get a colonoscopy....you are asleep...you all are wonderful and give us so much great advise & good thoughts before our surgery! Continues good recovery ...they do day it always happens like that when you feel better you do more and take a step back...hoping you both get rest and feel better!!!:):):)

@Kilmer....I hope your knees are going to be ok :). I have dealt with two bad knees for the past 10 yrs...had both scoped...put it off..no one including myself can believe I am doing hip!! I am worried about my knees with the positioning factor to accommodate hip....ughhh...I hope you feel better !! Hang in there and let us know your progress!!!:)

Okay friends, trying to decide what to do. I'm a teacher with my principal's license. I got a call yesterday asking me to interview for an assistant principal job in one of my dream districts. The issue? It's a two hour drive to the interview, the interview, then a two hour drive back. Siting in a hard chair for a few minutes is still painful. Would I be crazy to go? It's a wonderful opportunity, but I'm not sure how I'd be without meds and a long drive.
Thoughts?
Michele

I would go for it, can you have someone go with you so you could take meds on the way home ? If you go remember to leave yourself time to stop and walk a bit and strech it will make the ride easier. Good luck I have a hour drive to and from my Dr. Appt.s it's not fun but not as bad as I thought it would be. Kate[emoji254]
