Hello there Songlady I have the CD of the scan here, but of course not the results. I'll be clamoring for them on Mon. and hope to learn something then.
It would be a miracle to me if the shots did something positive, like ease the pain, but I'm reduced to hoping this new, intense level of pain will at least go back to the pre-shot level of pain, which was bad, but not as bad. It's much harder to walk now and I'm very stiff, which I haven't been for months. Perhaps it's transient and will subside...I hope so.
Mr. Songman is also waiting for improvement? I do think he'll be successful because the last shot worked so well. Good luck to him! I hope he feels more relief from this second injection.

zauberflöte and LeeApril26 It's probably counter-productive, but I hold off on taking the pain meds for the obvious reasons. I use ice all of the time, I barely move when it's bad, I use the TENS machine and I listen to a pain meditation tape first.

Thanks for the invitation to rant and rave, :hissy: sqwerlie Kim22 zauberflöte Songlady LeeApril26 and everyone who so willingly lends an ear. I'm sure there will be a major rant right around the corner, unfortunately, so please be prepared! As the situation draws out and the pain worsens, I'm feeling like I've just about had it.

It's good to know that other's have had their pain worsen, too, after the shots, then saw some improvement sqwerlie. That gives me more hope. I need the encouragement.

Thanks everyone!

ByGosh. I am still hoping for a good result and keeping you in my good thoughts. May not have access to BS until tomorrow evening. My daughter and I are going to the beach with my friend and her daughter, my godchild. Our first ever girls weekend. I don't post very well on my phone, but will be reading messages. Take care. Will check in tomorrow evening.

ByGosh I'm with LeeApril26 , I'm hoping for a good result here. Have you contacted the OS? I'm imagining he gave you instructions as to what to expect after the injections.

Has your weather improved? Ours did, and we had a glorious "late September" day yesterday. No humidity, never got above 85. Days like that are a gift! Today may be another one, with the humidity creeping up as the weekend goes on. Our NOAA weather shows highs only in the 80's through Wednesday!!!

LeeApril26 have a great time!

Oh ByGosh, my hissy fits consist mainly of swearing like a sailor...i always feel better after.
I'll be glad to coach you...i am kind of a master at this!

Well done, ByGosh, on being pro-active for yourself, and arranging that scan.

I did that - in a much more minor way - when I became exasperated at never having phone calls returned from the clinic staff who were supposed to be removing my staples. I went to my health centre, told them I was very worried about it, and wanted to see someone that day. Less than an hour later the staples had been removed by a nurse who turned out to be very experienced and knowledgeable. Sometimes you just have to look out for number one, as we say here.

Nylsor's information is excellent. I know about two thirds of it, but not all. I started wondering how come we do know these things? I don't remember having any "monarchy" classes at school. For Nylsor it is obviously a joy and a passion, but I think the rest of us just absorb it somehow, as we go through life. Occasionally, if there's a royal event, the newspapers will give a little potted précis of what's going on, and it all seems to make some sort of sense. Though I realise now that looked at through, say, US eyes, it must all sound very Ruritanian.

Mind you, this sort of thing works both ways. When I was at college studying journalism, we each had to give what would now be called "a presentation" on a subject we knew something about. We had a US student, Ric - now a successful radio reporter in New York - and he took us through the US electoral system. I'm sure his report was very good, but after about 10 minutes most of our eyes started to glaze over. What the Senate does, who are the members of the House of Representatives, how much influence the primaries have... All still something of a mystery to me.

Kim22 I will have to look up the name of my dad's regiment at El Alamein. I have been to the small museum there, and to the beautifully-kept cemetery, where perhaps your uncle rests? I'll post it on your thread when I have the info. I'm glad you agree that Camilla was very articulate on this subject.

Hang in there, ByGosh!

For Nylsor it is obviously a joy and a passion,
Hi glynis, I just happen to like English history and royalty is part of that. I certainly didn't learn a great deal about it at school. I came to live in London in 1966 from an extremely small town in East Yorkshire and spent many days off walking miles around London looking at all the buildings, monuments and fabulous architecture. Reading about all that sort of stuff involved the royals as many of the buildings were originally built for royalty and the aristocracy. I've also got a very good memory. I don't admire the hangers-on and think the emphasis on just the Queen, Prince Philip, Charles and Camilla and William and Kate is right. All the others should go and earn their living like the rest of us. Particularly Prince Andrew and his two daughters, who every time I read about them are going / on/ have been on holiday. Often with their dreadful mother. And he's playing golf or whizzing around the world at our expense. And I do think the British press go over the top re all things royal. In one of the papers today there is a 20 page supplement re Prince George. All the pics they've printed all week. And do I want to buy a commemorative Royal Worcester plate complete with pic of William, Kate and George. Standing outside the hospital. No. It must be the silly season.:) Ros

ByGosh, I'm still praying for quick relief for you. You continue to push through the system. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. You've got a lot of support pushing you forward. I'm keeping tabs on you and still firmly in your corner. PLEASE vent all you want. Do whatever it takes. :friends:

Nancy

Hi LeeApril26 Have a nice girl's weekend at the beach. Lovely weather for it today. Please don't forget the sunscreen - you don't want all the glow from your facial to turn red! :)

zauberflöte I haven't contacted the OS. I'm supposed call on Mon. and check the results of the fluid analysis and I'll also ask about the scan. I'm thinking if I hear by Tues, I'll be lucky, as he's off Mon, he said, and well, you know how it goes...

glynis It was a wise move for you to go to the clinic in person. I'm always saying that every patients needs an advocate, and when there's no one to advocate for us, we have to summon the will to do it ourselves.
It's not easy - I find it more difficult to push for myself than for my family. But pushing for myself is pushing for my family, as they need me to come back.

it must all sound very Ruritanian.
Ruritarian? :) Gee, glynis - you humble me. I don't think I've ever heard that word before! But, never fear, I looked it up and yet again, I'm learning something from spending half the day on this forum! Now I want to know if you've read the series by Anthony Hope and would you recommend them?
As far as the US electorial system... we learn that in school, but I don't know too many people in everyday life who actually remember it, so I think our eyes glazed over during that lesson, too.

Nylsor Are people in the UK as mad about the Game of Thrones series as they are here in the US? It's a series of fantasy novels by George R.R. Martin that seems very Ruritanian to me. (I'm practicing what I"ve just learned :) )
They've made it into a TV series now on our HBO, and that has escalated it's popularity dramatically, as people don't actually have to read it, they can watch it now. It has surged into a big commercial business, too, and there is now all sorts of paraphenalia one can buy - posters, t-shirts, trinkets, jewelery, pillows, etc. I've read samples of a few books, but although interesting, it is much too violent and devious and has too many characters to keep track of for me. I wonder if it's just an American phenonomen, or if it's spread overseas. I guess we have our very own fantasy Monarchy!
Your press goes overboard with the royals, our press goes overboard with our celebrities. The press goes overboard. Most people just eat it up and that's what they want to hear, I think. I enjoy some of it, but too much is too much. I much prefer the 'Educational Press of Ros's English History' to tabloids! :)

anniemg Ok, you can coach me to swear like a sailor, but I think it shoud be more like a contest, as I have a few good ones myself!

Listen:
!@#$%^&*bleep!*&^%$#@!bleep!#$%**&^%$#@#$%^&*&^bleep#$$%&!@bleepagain!##%$#%!&!!@!

And this is what I looked like:
:headbang::gaah: :hissy: :hairpulling: :tantrum: :headbang: :skep: :gaah: :hairpulling: :hissy: :tantrum: :skep: :gaah: :headbang::hairpulling: :hissy:  :tantrum: :headbang: :gaah: :hairpulling: :hissy: :headbang:

How was that??:)

Now it's your turn!

Hello nmay51 Thank you for your encouragement and faith. I don't think it's over yet, but I'm not any worse today, and may actually feel a little bit better. But shhhhhh - I don't want to say it too loudly, as then who knows what will happen tomorrow? It's enough of a roller coaster ride for me, without making all of my friends ride it, too!

You can tell how bored I am, because I'm starting to let the child in me come out! Oh dear...

And thanks for the invitation to vent - I just tried in my above post, so I'll see if that helps!
Have a nice weekend, dear, and thanks for keeping track of me, I appreciate all of my angels here.

Good evening my good friend ByGosh. I'll speak ever so quietly as I just read that you feel a bit better ! I do hope that the shots are kicking in. As I told you before they worked almost instantaneously on my hands but then there aren't large tendons and lots of muscle, etc. in which to reduce the inflammation. I'm just having a sit down and a break from the kitchen (it's 10.15pm here) as Liz and Darren are coming for lunch tomorrow and I've been chopping veg and halloumi cheese to marinade. I'll put them on skewers in the morning ready for grilling. I've also trimmed up a load of chicken pieces and made couscous with sun dried tomatoes and garlic. And loads of other bits and pieces. And now I've got backache. We are also having a torrential rainstorm with thunder and lightning. We're supposed to be eating in the garden - I hope it dries up before then. This afternoon Mike and I went shopping and he bought a really lovely thick sweater for Alaska. Also a new jacket and a pair of trousers ( pants).
I have to be honest and say that I've never even heard about the Game of Thrones series. If it's a fantasy thing I'd never look at it. I never read science fiction either. As I must be one of the few people I know who have also never read a Harry Potter book, you shouldn't be surprised. I have a very eclectic taste in reading and I do like American authors. I read a lot of John Grisham, James Patterson, Dean Koontz, Michael Connelly, etc and Bill Bryson always makes me laugh out loud. Since I had this op I can't read like I used to. I read three pages and then can't remember what I've read. I think it's the general anaesthetic as the same thing happened years ago after I had a hysterectomy ( an absolute walk in the park compared to a THR). It took me ten months to get my concentration back to the pre-op level. It was more of a nuisance then as I was working. Well, I'd better get back to the kitchen and clear up as it looks like a mess. Mike has gone out for a beer with his brother. Mmmm.... something wrong there. Why am I in the kitchen and he's in the pub? Here's hoping for an even better day for you tomorrow, dear and that the scan will provide some answers Loving thoughts,   Ros xx
PS And have as many tantrums and hissy fits as you like. :gaah: :hairpulling: :hissy: :tantrum: I think you've earned them. Turn them into something positive. Get mad, advocate.

Hi ByGosh, I've just caught up on your thread this evening. How long since your injections? I'm hoping you are yet to feel the full benefit of them. I can't imagine how frustrating all this must be for you, but you have had some very lovely company along the way. We are all looking forward to hearing the results of your scan and tests. I really hope they bring you some answers. I hope they day comes soon when you can tell us you are feeling much better. Thinking of you, even though I may not be by very often.

Yes the Game of Thrones is a big hit over here too.It seems to be very popular with younger people. My son has watched every episode and he's now reading the books. his friends are just as keen on it.I didn't care for it as it contained too much violence. I must admit that I don't enjoy watching fantasy and prefer historical dramas based on reality.I am loving The White Queen which contains plenty of creative drama for the purpose of entertainment but it is based on actual history so I am learning all about The Wars of the Roses which I studied in school but it was as dry as old sticks.

Thinking about you and praying for a sustained recovery.x

Now it's your turn!
Ok ByGosh, nobody likes a showoff....
I'm not sure I will be able to beat that little outburst! But I am glad to find that you will need little coaching!
I am a product of parochial school, so I consider myself to have been stifled and now I am making up for it....
My outbursts always end with :martini:...
I also quiety am glad u feel a little better and hope your OS visit goes well. Here's to more improvement!!!! :cheers2:

Nylsor I looked up the cheese as I'd never heard of it before, either. It sounds delicious and very easy to grill and cook with, as it doesn't melt at high temperatures, they said. One of my daughters is a vegetarian, and I don't eat much meat either, so it would be a great addition to our diets. I don't know how available it is here, though. I should have my husband look for it in the grocery store next time he does the food shopping.
Your lunch menu sounds delicious! I hope you had a very nice time with your daughter and her hubby. :) I'm sure she very much appreciates that you make her special foods. You sound like a great cook!

Kim22 That's interesting that Game of Thrones is a big hit in Britain, too. It doesn't appeal to me. The HBO show is quite racey and violent. My youngest daughter has read all of the books, and just got two t-shirts for her graduation with the logo on them. She also got a poster for her dorm room! She was happy with all of that!
Thanks for your thoughts Kim22 . I'm glad luluohio is finally better! That's good news, and gives me some hope for my own situation.

octopus Thank you so much for your thoughts! It's just turning into such a trying time for me. I feel I'll never get better, and I'm starting to feel hopeless now. The shots were given last Tues, the 23rd and they offered some brief, temporary relief - yesterday I felt better during the day, but by 4pm I was back in agony. That's why I hesitate to say that I feel better, because it doesn't last anyway, and it's such a roller coaster of hope then disappointment. I keep reminding myself that I have to get the results of the cultures and the CT scan, then there's an MRI I would imagine (if it will be helpful - I've heard different opinions on how well it can visualize with the metal in there) and maybe Prednisone by mouth for a period of time. I'm just so tired of being in pain and not being able to resume my life!
But I do appreciate you dropping by and sending your wishes my way. I have so many lovely people here who haven't given up on me yet. I so appreciate everyone's support, it's so important to me! Thanks octopus.
How are you doing? I hope you feel well and are getting on with your own recovery fine! Take care and visit again.:)

My heart goes out to you! I will be thinking of you. I'm finding it hard to find the time to catch up with everyone on Bonesmart, but I still want to keep in touch. :) I am taking ibuprofen 3 times a day for my thrombophlebitis, so the hip is feeling quite good. But I tried to cut the ibuprofen out at the weekend and although the pain wasn't too bad in my leg, I don't want it to get worse so am going to try twice a day. The thrombophlebitis could take up to two months to clear.

Lots of love to you!
