BeckyR I am assuming, as ByGosh has done, that you were referring to Sarah Ferguson, and not to Fergie the pop singer. UK Fergie - this gallumphingly charmless and graceless woman - is to my mind a national embarrassment, and I quite honestly don't care if she is a size 8 or an 80. She has certainly passed on all her knowledge of style, elegance, posture and femininity to her two daughters. (Can you read between the lines here?!)

And Nylsor, you never said a truer word, in relation to the possibility of a "Queen" Camilla, than: "Quite honestly, I don't think people will care one way or the other." Whilst she undoubtedly espouses everything I have grown up disliking in the vein of "Awfully, awfully. Jolly hockey sticks" I think she is an intelligent woman. I have twice heard her give speeches (only on TV), and found her sensitive and articulate. Once was about her mother's debilitating osteoporosis, and another was about her father's experiences at El Alamein in WW11. My dad was there, so that was of particular interest to me. She is elegant and graceful, and her fashion sense is immaculate. She is everything that hangers-on such as "Fergie" are not.

Enjoyed the cat and dog stories, ByGosh and Songlady.

Finally, the only important bit in all this waffle... Hang on in there, ByGosh. Don't give up on the injections yet, and remember you now have some more avenues to explore.

glynis I heard both speeches and was pleasantly surprised at how well she spoke.I also have a great interest in El Alamein as my mothers only brother was killed in the battle. He was only 21 and like most families in the same position they were devastated at such a waste of a young and promising life.He came from a small pit village, from a working class family but made it to university which was incredible for the time. He studied German at Durham and spoke it fluently so surely there was a better use for his talents than serving with the DLI ? Which regiment did your father serve in ?

Kylesh Hi there. I hope you find out soon about your potential relocation, and if it's to a spot closer to family, that would be wonderful for you.
Oh those knees - they seem to have a lot of sympathy pains for the hips, don't they? I'm glad your doc is looking into it, and I hope it isn't anything major. A meniscus tear is unfortunate, but as I understand it, not as much of a big operation now a days. I believe it's repaired by arthroscopic surgery now, and the recovery isn't too prolonged.
But that's jumping ahead a little (I wish I could jump, literally :)). Perhaps it's feeling the stress of adjusting to a new hip and a new way of walking, and it'll come around - sooner rather than later. Do have a TENS machine? They've very helpful, I think, especially on the knees. Before my surgery one of my knees was painful and I wore an ice wrap around it most of the time that I had to be up - even at work. It seemed to help- I do that sometimes.

Thanks for visiting with me, and please let me know how the MRI goes. I didn't realize until recently that they could do MRIs on THR patients - it's lucky they can, as they're a great diagnostic too. Good luck and thanks for being such a sweetheart. :friends: You know how much I appreciate all of your support - everyone's support.

that's why we are here. To carry you along when you just can't take another step.
zauberflöte You're an angel, too. That was so kind of you. I jut can't say enough nice things about everyone.
I do feel like I can't take another step today...but I have to remind myself that the cultures are pending, and they may show something - not bad I hope, but something to enlighten us. And then there's the CT scan I'll probably need, which is the next step - it's all just dragging on so long... it is getting harder and harder to stay positive, as you can imagine. But no sense getting gloomy now, it sure won't help anything! I should probably just go and get the scan over with rather than waiting to see if these shots kick in. That will bring us one step closer to an answer, I would think.
I hope you're doing well @zauberflöte- just like I hope all of these THR people are! :)

Nylsor Please tell your husband I appreciate his thoughts. He is wonderful to support you when you're being so supportive to me! And thank you for the history lesson again - it is a great distraction, and good to keep my mind from becoming like oatmeal here. You're so kind to take the time to post so much information.
I was reading about Princess Royal the other night - I actually like that title - but I wonder why she didn't want her children to have a title? She seems to be such a sour puss, I'm sorry to say. What's the advantage to a title - is it just status? Zara is lovely - I've read about her and her rugby player. She's a great equestrian, wasn't she an Olympian? I think it's exciting she's having a baby, more for Prince George to grow up with.
There are so many royals to keep track of!
I'm sure I can look this up, but better to get it from a true Englishwoman who knows her facts! - Would Queen Consort be a negative name for Camilla? And why not just Queen Camilla? I would think the British wouldn't accept her, but you're right, times have changed, and everyone seems so thrilled for Prince William and Princess Kate and their obvious loving relationship, that I think they're less critical now. What a difference to see them present their baby Prince on the steps of St. Mary's compared to stuffy Prince Charles (sorry) and young, innocent Princess Diana when they presented Prince William. Prince Charles didn't even look happy. Princess Diana was such a loving mother, she really set a new standard for the royals. I know Kate will be wonderful, too.
Well, dear friend who inspires me and educates me from across the Pond - you're another angel. Thank you.

Nylsor. Thank you for the interesting trip through the intricacies of royalty and inherited titles. How do you keep up? I feel as though we ought to reciprocate from this side of the pond but all I can think of right now is the nauseating political theater being performed in NYC right now where we face two charming candidates: a disgraced former governor running for Comptroller who stepped down for hiring prostitutes that were illegally transported across state lines (a crime he prosecuted other people for when he was attorney general) and a disgraced former Congressman running for mayor who stepped down after tweeting photos of his genitalia in tight underwear and probably worse to young women he didn't know. And, the truly sad part is that they are probably the best qualified Democrats running this year. What a choice we have!
Will try to come up with something more savory to amuse or inform ByGosh and friends.

Thanks for your well-wishes earlier Kim22. Isn't Nylsor a very good teacher? Do most of the British know those facts about their royalty? It's new to me, as we have very little exposure to Kings, Queens and the like here - unless we're playing cards, that is! :)
glynis Thanks for your well-wishes, too. So I take it you're not a fan of Fergie? Gee, I never would have known...just kidding of course. What we're exposed to here in the US is much different than your exposure, I'm sure.

LeeApril26 That would be wonderful if you had some interesting facts about our US culture to entertain us with. And now that you've mentioned it, I can't believe that AW's still in the race - or that his wife is standing by his side. I haven't read much about her, but she seems to be well-accomplished in her own right. It's pretty disgraceful for her, too - I couldn't bear it myself, such public humiliation. I'm sure you follow it more closely than I do, since you're right there.
I'm glad your virtual pilgramage is working out for you! It's the only way I'm traveling now a days, so I find it interesting.

ByGosh. The train wreck in Spain was awful, and your blogger sounded so subdued and sad. I would imagine by the fourth week I would long since have given up! She talks about her slammed feet-ouch!

I can't imagine why AW's wife has not thrown him out. She does have a young child, and her job has required travel. As Hillary Clinton's aide I am sure she is anticipating a life on the road starting in 2014 if not before. Yet, the sheer ick factor in AW's actions would be enough, you'd think, to send him out the door.

If I could think of anything I'm as knowledgable about as Nylsor is, I would write about it.

I have a garden question-do you grow tomatoes? I have an heirloom plant this year with five huge green tomatoes that haven't begun to ripen in almost three weeks, and the plant has stopped making flowers. The flowers that are still on the plant seem to have dried up. I would welcome ideas from you or anyone reading this. Should I pick the tomatoes and try to ripen them indoors? Any notion on how to stimulatemthis poor plant. It is green and leafy, just stopped producing. Thanks!

Hi LeeApril26 I'm not a gardener anymore, but I'd pick one or two - depending on how many your have, and let them ripen on a sunny window sill, if you have one. That way, you'll know if they'll ripen up nicely for you (which I've done before and it should work) and you'll still have some on the vine in case they start to turn red. If they do ripen off of the vine, I'd probably pick most of them so it's not a total loss. Or you can always try some 'fried green tomatoes' (remember that movie?) and see how those are!
Hopefully, someone more knowledgable will come along with some expert advice. How about Nylsor ? Her husband, Mike, does a lot of gardening and she helps him out. I'll bet she can tell you something.

The train crash was horrific - right near Santiago de Compostela, too. I can't bear looking at that video of it's derailment. I haven't read Audrey's posts since before it happened. She must know about it - Has it impacted her travels at all? I'll have to catch up on her - I wonder how much longer she has to travel? Too bad she's not sounding so good now, is it because of the train derailment? I think it's been a challenge in many ways right along, even though she was excited about going. What determination, but I imagine to quit would feel like failure in some ways for them.

I'm going to research AW's wife a little because I just can't figure it out. I'm curious to know where she's been educated, her background, etc. Maybe there's a clue, because it eludes me. Ick factor is right! Those texts are on the i-net, she must have read them, although I could imagine she'd never want to. He definately has a problem and a diagnosable illness, I think.

it is getting harder and harder to stay positive, as you can imagine. But no sense getting gloomy now, it sure won't help anything! I should probably just go and get the scan over with rather than waiting to see if these shots kick in. T
ByGosh going to get the scan would give you a sense of progression, if nothing else. And you know what? maybe you should allow yourself to pitch a huge hissy fit , get it out of your system for a day or two. Compose it, and then if it's as embarrassing as one of mine would be, just discard it LOL. If it were me, I'd have been the worst whine on the block lonnnnnng before now. You are extraordinary :)

ByGosh . Audrey has a week to go. She sounds tired and said all of the pilgrims are, saddened by the crash.
I think AW's wife was born here but brought up in the Middle East. Her family is Muslim. Maybe no divorce? I agree there is some illness involved-at the very least profound narcissism.

Thanks for the tomato advice. I've never had this happen before. Have had other issues but not the whole plant shutting down. Thanks again.

A friend gave me a gift cert. for a facial as a get well gift. Used it today. Don't do facials much. It also included a shoulder and neck massage which was lovely. Such a thoughtful gift.

Should I pick the tomatoes and try to ripen them indoors? Any notion on how to stimulatemthis poor plant. It is green and leafy, just stopped producing. Thanks!
No, don't pick the tomatoes. They will turn red themselves. Just make sure they are watered and have plenty of warmth and sunlight. The plant won't put out any more flowers because the tomatoes grow where the flowers were and the plant has passed this stage. And who is AW?
Would Queen Consort be a negative name for Camilla? And why not just Queen Camilla?
Hello dear ByGosh. No, all wives of reigning British monarchs are their Queen Consort and are crowned alongside them in Westminster Abbey. A Queen Consort crown already exists and is in the Tower of London as it is part of the Crown Jewels and belongs to the country. The Crown Jewels are not owned personally by the monarch. The late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, was the Queen Consort of King George VI, the present Queen's father. She took the title of Queen Mother on the death of her husband in 1952 - the first to do so. The only man to take the title of Prince Consort was Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria. The present Queen's husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, is not styled as Prince Consort - most probably because he chose not to. He's very much his own man. When Charles becomes King, Camilla will automatically take on the style and title of Queen Consort. Legislation will have to be passed in the Houses of Parliament to stop this happening. Somehow, I don't think this will happen but what may happen is that she will be given / take a lesser title. Legally though, she will be the Queen Consort, just as now she is legally the Princess of Wales, but she never uses this title as it was thought that it would be too insensitive to the memory of Diana, Charles's first Princess of Wales. Instead, she uses the title Duchess of Cornwall because one of Charles's many titles is Duke of Cornwall. I didn't like her at first, but time passes and she certainly has been a good influence on Charles.
And yes, glynis, I agree with your sentiments re Sarah Ferguson. And I can never undestand the British Press / media when they make stupid comments like ' Oh, poor Fergie, she hasn't been invited to the Wedding' (William and Kate's). She's been divorced and out of the Royal Family for years for goodness sake. If I was divorced would I expect to be invited to my ex-husband's nephew's wedding? I don't think so. In what capacity would she be invited? As far as I'm aware she has no relationship whatsoever to William. Prince Phillip hates her with a passion and I don't think Princess Anne ever took to her. She was an extremely bad influence on Diana.
I'm off to have a nice glass of wine now and watch ( for the second time around) 'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills'. My goodness, such wealth. And no, I don't reckon you all live like that in the US. :heehee:
I do hope all this isn't boring you dear ByGosh - just trying to take your mind off the horrid pain. Loving thoughts    Ros xx

Nylsor. Thank you for the tomato advice. Didn't realize five tomatoes would be the total harvest. Oh well.
AW isthe ex-Congressman who is running for mayor and as recently as a year ago was tweeting photos of his private parts to strange women. His wife is Hillary Clinton's top aide and had been for years. Bill officiated at the wedding.

Love the royalty explanations. I think the speculation about the Queen stepping down for Charles is tacky. Is this a popular idea in the UK?

zauberflöte LeeApril26 Well, right after I wrote that to you zauberflöte I thought - what am I laying here in so much pain waiting for? So I called the CT place to schedule an appt. and I just happened to ask if they had anything for today. They said they did have one last opening in 45 minutes! So I hobbled upstairs, took a fast shower and shampoo, dressed, quickly put on a touch of make-up (can't let myself be seen looking that bad!) dried my hair a little, and I made it! It's only 5 mins from my house. It was very quick, but I am so stiff and walking was so painful, I'm actually frightened - I had to take a pain pill as soon as I could! I haven't felt so impaired since immediately post-op, when everything was so stiff and painful. I hope this isn't the new baseline for me, and it's transient from the shots! I can't imagine things getting so much worse now...

zauberflöte I did have a melt down today, in the privacy of my own home with my husband on the receiving end of the phone (poor guy was at work). I couldn't stand another minute of it. I still can't. But what can I do?
I'm truthfully not the type to complain so much to others, so it's not easy for me to do this here, even though I couldn't ask for a more kind and caring community of women. There's many, many things going on in my head about all of this that I don't post. I just can't burden everyone here, and I think there's only so much people can bear to hear, no matter how wonderful you all are. It's just horrible, really. But thanks for your idea of a hissy fit - it may come out yet!

LeeApril26 I'm so glad Nylsor solved your tomato problem. Let us know how they do, and how delicious they are. Your facial and massage sounds perfect - what a nice treat that must have been for you.
I also love the royalty explainations! I think it's very interesting and not in the least bit boring - and so kind of Nylsor to be our 'English Royalty Encyclopedia'. :) I find them more interesting than many of our celebrities, and not as scandalous as most of our politicians that make the headlines seem to be. I'm not so much interested in actual politics, anyway.

ByGosh. Good for you. The rushing was difficult, I'm sure, and everything probably tensed up, but totally worth it to find out what the he__ is going on with you implant, tendons, etc. you need an answer, or you needed it months ago.

Feel free to rant or rave. I would.

Do you have enough pain ills to take them 24/7 for a week to break the cycle of pain? You need relief now, though I'm sure you don't want to go back on pills.

I love that you put on make up, despite the pain. We are still girls inside, aren't we.

Hi ByGosh - Please, vent as you need to! I am sure I can speak for us BSers - you are not going to run us off now!!
So... when will you hear the results from the scan?
Songman said his injections now feel like muscle spasms all in the affected area. Hmm. I tried to think back... and when I had a steroid injection into my heel for plantar fascitis (sp?) it hurt like the blazes for like a week, and then I thought, oh, rats, this didn't work, and then..... within about another week I realized the pain was progressively lessening. So, just to bolster your hope, my friend! :friends:
Spellcheck wants to make "fascitis" into "fascists"... but I don't think I've had fascists on my heel......
And, LeeApril26, just fyi, I've given up on tomato plants. There were several years when my total harvest was about 5 tomatoes. We always laughed and remembered the NYTimes article about the $74 tomato (cost of plants, potting soil, fertilizer, shovel, gardening gloves, tomato plant cages.....) This year the only thing I've planted is some basil, so I can make pesto as summer goes on. But I've found that we have a few potato plants growing, probably from little potatoes I neglected to dig up last year (in pain, it was too hard to dig for them).... so, I'm hoping we'll get a few spuds!

ByGosh I agree with you that Ros is extremely knowledgable and she writes so well.I knew a lot of the history of the monarchy but not as much as Ros.i have just watched a documentary called "The Real White Queen" which was fascinating about The Wars of the Roses which was the period before the Tudors ( think Henry 8th) but although the modern day monarchy is complicated it not half as complicated as then.Although it seemed like the men called all the shots it appears that there were some very strong women pulling strings politically in the background.Did you watch it Nylsor ?

Please don't hesitate to let off steam on here ByGosh.Sometimes it is just what we need and that is what we are here for.So vent away.I knowI have in the tough times and it really helps.

ByGosh you clever girl, getting that CT scan in only 45 minutes! With makeup yet! For me it's "put the hair up", I can't wear the only makeup I've ever worn-- mascara-- cos my eyes are now so allergic to it. Cheap, expensive, it doesn't seem to matter. Phooey!

I kinda like the suggestion of taking real pain pills for a while to break the cycle....

I know about those "husband as victim" meltdowns. But if you feel comfortable venting here, here we are :)

ByGosh, hissy fit away. If anyone deserves to have one, it's you. And I'm sure none of us would mind you letting off some steam, you've certainly been there for all of us. Don't give up hope on the shots yet, my pain got worse for a few days also, then began to get better. :ok:
