Its said they think the world of her. Don't know how true that is. I also heard somewhere that Charles suffers from 'pity parties' quite a lot, and gets a bit demanding. Camilla wont stand for it and is the only one who dares to tell him to get a grip and puts him in his place. Its true what Nylsor says, he is a different man since he married her.

Newbie here. I didn't get two done at the same time, but I sure wanted to! I just had a revision done on the right one (DePuy) because of high metal levels and burning pain. You don't have to worry about that mess. Anyway, don't let worry cause you more discomfort. If you want answers, call your doctor. As my doctor always tells me, "there are no stupid questions when it comes to your health." You are a strong person for having bilateral THR's!!! It will get better, but it is going to take some time.

Hi Judith Ann welcome to BoneSmart! Thanks for posting on my thread, which has had a lot of activity lately due to my on-going pain and everyone's kindness, doing such a wonderful job of helping and supporting me.
Was your DuPuy implant one of the metal on metal ones? What implant did they replace it with and which hip was revised? I hope you're doing much better now, and the burning pain is gone! Did they think you pain was from the metal? I appreciate your answers - all of our own experiences help each other to learn about this process. :friends:

Keep posting and telling us of your experiences. We're all here to listen to you, help you in any way we can, and hopefully help ourselves, too. Come and visit again often! It's good to meet a new face!
Awww I love the bunny avatar, too!

The OS said that some of the prednison does get absorbed into the system, and I felt it last night. I had some hot flashes, a bad headache, and was wide awake until 2:30am - none of which is typical for me. Also, the groins did hurt more than usual. I iced and iced, but finally took 1/2 pain pill and some tylenol, and was able to fall asleep til 5am.
I got up to visit with my son before he went to work, and the pain was better! I was surprised it was helping so soon, and was feeling some hope. I went back to bed for a few more hours, and now today, the pain still seems better - not gone, but improved! I can actually be up for more than 10 mins before I have to lay down with ice. I'm not at all pushing it, though. It's the same routine - rest with ice - I don't want to reverse any improvemet!

So let's keep our fingers crossed, and hope it's the start of more and more improvement day by day! I hope, I hope, I hope! Thanks you for your kind support, I'll let you know how it goes.

I asked OS about imaging the implants, and he said a lateral type of xray, which he did yesterday, and a CT scan. We agreed that if I didn't have improvement by next week, we'd do the CT scan. Well, he ordered it and I can get it done this week. I'm just concerned about the radiation, as CT scans have much more than an xray. So I was considering waiting a few days, see how it goes before having it, and research pelvic CT scans. I want it done to either help sort this out if I need to, or put my mind at ease. But I've had so many xrays this past year, and a yearly chest xray as a nurse in the hospital, so I want to be careful.
I think it's prudent to wait a few days - if the pain isn't better or comes back, I can always get it early next week. Sound reasonable?
In the meantime, do any of you wonderful friends have information about pelvic CT scans, or CT scans in general that would help enlighten me? This is a two year old machine, and it can convert the images to 3-D so the implants can be seen in relation to the bone mostly, but also in relation to the soft tissue. It sounds very helpful. Thanks, guys. :friends:

ByGosh. Very pleased to hear there is an improvement and it is good you are icing/resting. Hoping very hard that you continue to improve. About a week after I had a head CT scan in an ER a few years ago there was a big article in the NY Times about radiation risk and overuse. If you continue to improve you may want to think about skipping it, as there was no hint of a problem in the X-rays. Of course, if you continue to be in pain the risk may be worth it. My two cents, anyway.

My husband, with whom I've shared some of your pain experience, asked me to remind you that it took two shots over a month for his foot pain to be totally gone and stay away for a very long time, so far.

Sorry about your bad night, but it sounds like it was worth it. FYI, the second night I took valerian My stomach rebelled! Have been afraid to try again.

ByGosh. You probably have thought of this, but it just entered my head that the muscles in your legs are probably very weak from months of resting. When you start moving maybe begin with heel slides and foot pumps? Boring, but safe.

Dear ByGosh - this is just the news we wanted to hear! I do hope and pray that the improvement continues. Take it nice and steady. One step at a time. Cortisone worked like a dream for me in my hands and wrists. I had Du - something-or-other - where your fingers are pulled into the palms of your hands. It was awful but two shots of cortisone and it was all gone. No, I lie. The third finger on my right hand was stubborn so I had a small op under local anaesthetic to release it. Never had a problem since and that was more than twenty years ago.
So, we've got a Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge and Mike has won his bet with me. I like the name George. Both my grandfathers were called George. A good, solid, English name. And Kate and William and baby George have gone off to stay with her parents. Lovely. They live in a beautiful English village in a £4.8 million house. We don't all live like that in England - just in case you think we do :heehee:
Loving thoughts ByGosh, take care    Ros xx

Dear ByGosh I am so pleased that you have noticed some improvement already which is very encouraging.Sending you all my good wishes for the improvement to continue. You are a very wise lady not to rush things and to carry on as you have been resting and icing.Praying for you.

LeeApril26 Those were my thoughts exactly about the CT scan. If I don't get better and better, I will definatley have it. It's worth the radiation risk. I'd rather risk that which I don't know will happen for sure, than live like this, which I know is a nightmare.
The OS said I can't get another shot for 3 months. I imagine there's a different protocol for hips and joints, as I've heard this before, but maybe he'd do it a bit sooner.
My next step would be the CT scan,
probably a blood test for metal allergy if the scan doesn't reveal anything,
consulting with the rhematologist, who wants me to go on methotrexate as he's suspicious I have sero-negative RA (I'm not so sure - my shoulders are better since I stopped paddling around the pool with only my arms - I'd think they'd still be bad if I had RA? and he's basing this on pathology report from THRs that showed 'synovitis' which is an RA thing - OS said he's seen it due to the inflammation from osteoarthritis, too, so...,
but instead of metho, maybe trying some prednisone by mouth for a month (oh boy, sleepless nights here we come!), and then - if there is no resolution
I suppose pain relief measures, like a pain clinic. That may be the only option if there is no diagnosis, and all else fails, as I can't live with pain and dysfuntion for the rest of my life.

Depressing....

Too bad your valerian isn't agreeing with you...I wonder if you take it with yogurt, or milk and crackers? Just a thought.
My muscles are flabby from underuse, and I am thinking of that, hoping I'll get back to being functional if and when I'm able to walk! I was in very good shape before all of this, but couldn't walk much for 4 mos before surgery, and had to modify the swimming. So it's been a while that I've been up and running like I used to do.

Thanks for the post. Are you still in Penna? The weather is definately better here, had some nice rain last night which we needed. I hope you're enjoying yourself and getting to the pool or the lake a little bit.
Any info or idea you have are always welcome, Lenora. You have a good thinking cap! :)

Thanks so much Kim22 and Liveringer I am keeping my finger's crossed. The pain is a little better today - I hope it steadily improves. I don't know...I'll have to wait and see. But I do so much appreciate your thoughts.
I hope you're doing better Kim22 and your pain is soon a thing of the past!
I'm happy for all of you on the birth of beautiful Prince George. It will bring more tourism and a boost for your economy, I'm sure of that! It's a very good thing for the Monarcy and all of England. I'm very excited about it. :)

Liveringer have you been doing any horseshoes lately? Did you make it to your tournamet at all? I hope your still having a great recovery. It's wonderful for you to get back to what you love. Keep up the good work! Enjoy yourself for me a little bit, too! :friends:

Hi, ByGosh, Glad the shots are helping. If I were in your situation, I'd go ahead with the CT scan. Even though it has so much radiation, you aren't the kind of person to have unnecessary tests. So many things have gone wrong that you really need to find out what is going on. I will keep an eye on your thread!

glynis 10 stone - I had to look that one up. You sound like a fashion model - one we would like to see in reality, who is at a normal body weight compared to those poor waifs they have now, who look so anorexic, malnourished, and never smile. They look so sullen and hostile - when they aren't in a magazine looking like a depraved drug addict.
Anyhow, thanks for posting your weight in stone - it's helps to broaden my ever shrinking horizons here!

I have a BMI calculator here, being a school nurse and all. It's a little hand-held wheelie thing, much like a due date calculator when pregnant. I took the liberty of looking up your weight in relation to your height (please, forgive me, I hope I'm not over-stepping my bounds and that I don't embarrass or otherwise insult you) but...You're perfect! You are quite low on the BMI wheel - on the lower end of being of 'normal' weight, quite far from overweight. So that's another feather in your undoubtedly already feathered up cap! :)
You should be a fashion model, after all. Knock 'em dead. LOL

Hi Nylsor TeeEm Wonderful friends from England. Prince George Alexander Lewis is a very regal name. I think it's a good choice and all of Britain will love it. Your country will also benefit from his birth - it will bring more tourism and boost the economy. It's certainly joyous and fun to follow them.
Much better than most of our celebrities here. They're generally quite gawdy and very ego-centric, and often troubled. Not all, but some.

Nylsor I'm hoping and praying this works, too, and that I see improvement daily. It will be nothing less than miraculous to me if that happens. I would tolerate this prednisone headache for the rest of my life if I can walk without such pain again. I'm hopeful, but doubtful that these shots can fix what's been so painful for months. Sorry, but that's my fear coming out. I do so much want to be wrong and get better!

Thanks for your thoughts, as always. Everyone has been amazingly helpful to me through this. I will let you know how things go as the days go on. Stay well, and enjoy. :friends:

ByGosh It sounds like your getting some relief already from the shots. That's brilliant. I had a 3D CT scan prior to the op. It was really quick and only took about 2 minutes - and that included getting on and off the table and putting my coat back on.

Hi ByGosh - it sounds as though the shots were of some help! I hope you can sleep tonight. I take melatonin sometimes (I can't remember, have you tried that, LeeApril26?) And when Songboy was on steroids, his GI told us he should take Benedryl.
I look forward to hearing reports for several days, to hear how things progress and/or change. I can't add my 2 cents about the CT scan. I have not dealt with those too much.
I can tell you, though, that when I had bursitis which had hurt for quite some time, the shot (single shot, one hip) was AMAZING.
What about the calcified muscle.....? I will need to look that up; I'm not sure how that works into everything, what it means, etc.
I never had a headache from prednisone, so I'm sorry you do! And I'm sure the lack of sleep isn't helping that. I hope you are better from the neck up, as well, tomorrow!

ByGosh. Not terrific that a reduction in pain comes with a headache, but hopefully all the pains will go away. Hard to have faith in that after all this pain, but try, cause you know thinking positive helps. (i have trouble with it, too.) I'm sure your muscles are flabby, as when I started PT, the therapist said my left glute was discernibly flat. Nice rear view, but I tried not to think about it.
We arrived back in NYC just in time for the rush hour traffic, but home now and finished with dinner. When I feel brave enough I'll try your suggestion about some dairy product with valerian.
Songlady. I tried melatonin on several occasions and usually had disturbing nightmares. I used to use Benadryl but stopped because I read a report that in persons older than 65 it is associated with increased falls. Since I fall quite well without assistance, I'm saving Benadryl for allergies. My options are narrowing, and I really don't want to take Ambien forever. May try the Insomnia CD ByGosh mentioned.
