thanks for your comments @SuperSnapper I agree Marmite and vegamite are entirely different - I just prefer vegie (as we call it her in Oz) cause is is saltier. I agree there is nothing like some on fresh buttered toast - with a mug of T of course.

Surgery countdown seems to be going faster (as others have noted)... nervous anticipation on my part - Chat soon - thanks again, Maggie x

Hey Maggie - how are you doing? You'll be at one week out when you get this...lol, i THINK, anyway!

Hi @TexasTee thanks for asking - seems like there is a million things to do all of a sudden BUT I make a list every morning and plow on thru it - works:yes!:. I admit to an excited expectation of "the other side" but I had a thought yesterday as I was sitting crossed legged with my hand on my knee... ekkkk this is going to be chopped out. Kinda big reality check!!!!

All in all prep is good. Body pillow should arrive today - very politic that you called yours Bill. I though that I'd call mine CW (chocolate wheel) that way I can mentally spin it and sleep with a different hunk every nite... :happydance:

Got two walking sticks - one is black with a swan neck the other is white and folds up - still considering names for these :umm:- will let you know

You are inside a week now - how are your feeling? Say the discussion re protein bars - great idea - I always have some as "treats" cause I like the choc fudge, choc & banana and choc & honey...

Gotta go - doggies to walk - hope everyone is having a good day/nite - cheers Maggie x

Chortle hmmmmmmm.seems there is a theme here. Good.for you still walking pooches

@Legin .... and the theme is????

Yep still walking - I seem to be OK once I am upright - it is the getting up and down that is the issue + as I type the weird hot pain in my knees... only a week of this to go:yahoo:

keep on keeping on - Maggie x

Not long now Maggie until the pain in your knees is gone...stairs become a breeze and the pain just standing up and taking those first steps is something I do not miss either....I tried going up stairs 2 at a time yesterday...no problem...I think of the build up to my surgery and now 9 weeks past time! will fly for you....just pamper and baby yourself and have plenty of vegamite and butter sandwiches(would bacon make it taste better?) I just know you will do great.:happydance::yay:

Vinny

Thanks Vinny. You have been (and I hope will continue to be) a great support and source of information. Can't thank you enough for your generosity of spirit.
Yep well and truly on the countdown now. In bed with a mug of tea post a couple of wines.... jazz n book await. Nite nite , Maggie x

Before you nod off I just received the pairings for today and my partner has two new knees and one of our opponents has one that he had put in 20 years ago and still walking the course.....It can be done and you will be back out there before you know it....I dont think the 4th guy has any new components so we will leave him in the dust

Vinny

@Maggie94 - getting closer ......... it will be over before you know it. Since you are so organized, you'll have your icing regime set-up. Have you tried icing the sore knee.

@vinny - I'm two days ahead of you and I can go upstairs like a grown-up. Just not ready to do the downward trip that way. Have you mastered that as well?

@Threads - yes you are right Sandra - I was just on the phone to another Sandra in Brisbane Australia and said to her that at this time next week I will have new knees.... organised - sort of. Just packed a travel bag (the carry-on size)... its stuffed.... I have a back pac that a friend will bring to me once I am up on the ward - it will have phone, tablet & ereader...don't know if I will be able to use them I may be too zonked.

I have asked people to text me no ring - I then have the choice of ringing back or not or just texting ...depends how I feel.

How are you today - progress??? cheers Maggie x

@Maggie94 - you do sound organised but you didn't answer my question. Have you tried icing your sore knee???? It might help pre-op.

I packed a little differently and it worked out fine. I brought limited stuff to the hospital - I wasn't in any shape there to do much and I was in 5 days. Can you message on your tablet? That's all I did and posted on BoneSmart. You'll be pretty amazing if you actually read and remember the last sentence ;-). Hospitals here like you to bring the minimum amount of stuff - there just isn't room and you will have difficulty getting at it, i.e. your challenge will be getting up and going to the bathroom.

I had another bag packed that was brought to me when I moved to rehab. It had my yoga pants, t-shirts, underwear, shoes and everything else I would need in rehab. They had me up and fully dressed on the first morning, with the help of an occupational therapist. I was so busy in rehab and there was so much going on (plus it took a while to find the concentration part of my brain) that all I did was watch Netfix in the evening. I had a good set of ear phones, so I didn't disturb anyone else.

I slept better last night, so my process of getting off oxycodone, at least at night, is working. I still take the slow release during the day. I tried to do without Tylenol today but wasn't totally successful. You don't need to think about me. You have a week to do special things that you won't be able to do for a while. Enjoy it!

Off to bed for me - we leave for the pool in a little over 8 hours, so I should fit some sleep in!

Hi @Threads - Sandra no I have not tried icing - they are really not sore enough - I just take a panadol or advil and that is fine.

GREAT info re packing - I will do the same thing. i am supposed to have 6-7 days/nights in hospital then 3 weeks in rehab.. it is the rehab stuff that is filling the bag. Good solution:thumb:. I am taking my reader cause everyone is different - I fully expect that it will not even get turned on but you never know:fingersx:. Hope you have a fabulous sleep - cheers Maggie x

Well organised I packed my bag 10.mins before I left the house. I took loads of stuff to do tablet with kindle app and.honestly just listened to music.as I.drifted in.and.out of sleep. Mind you.it was.good for.the sleepless nights. But then.I.wld.crash the.nurses station.coffee and.toast num num

True I have that sort of face. Perfect radiio face

I was just thinking this morning of packing - I'm pretty sure I'm just brining a few uber bars, my ipod and headphones and something to wear home.

@Maggie94 - wise, prepare for the possible. You'll be in hospital longer than I was and you may, in fact, feel up to reading. I had magazines as well as books for the hospital and rehab, but didn't read any. I was in a ward with three other beds in both places, and there always distracting activity and noise going on except the evening. I was also very spoiled. My DH came everyday and acted as my social secretary organizing my visitors all didn't come at once. Normally, I read a lot - I've just about finished book 3 this month, so it surprised me that I wasn't interested in reading. My fingers are crossed that things will be different for you.

I found attention span was greatly reduced I know that's no.surprise for me. Yip things about you become.of.interest. I also attempted a break out but was caught.
