Thanks @SuperSnapper feels a bit like time is elastic alternately shorten it and lengthening.... Just a waiting game. Keeping busy is a great distraction. Chez, Maggie x

I think the bed phobia came from the problem some have getting in and out of bed and not being able to sleep...that is why so many people live in a recliner...my theory anyway

Also sofa or recliner no.stairs and everything is nearby. You will.find best place to.sleep

I slept in our bed from day 1. I'm a restless sleeper anyway so my husband is used to it! Once I got rid of the blessed pillow from under my leg, everything began to look up sleepwise! Stayed up stairs for about 4 days though. I did go to sleep a lot with gel packs on my knee. It's weird but I found it comfortable! Have you bought gel packs or an ice machine? I had a cryo cuff but found I only used it for 2 weeks. The gel packs were so much icier and nicier!:ice: My knee was so hot, it felt like I could fry eggs on it for the first two weeks. All that healing makes a lot of heat. Its the same temperature as the other knee now all the time.

It all seems like a long time ago but it's only 9 weeks! Eeek!

@SuperSnapper thanks for that. Yep get gel PACs in the freezer ready for when I come home... Prob around 3to 4 weeks post op

I wondered about the bed thing too - I can't imagine choosing my recliner over my tempurpedic but time will tell, I suppose. We're almost there!! Now, off to bed you!

Are you still up @TexasTee its 3.20am here.... Can't do the math for time in Austin....you are going to be fine today. Nice little sleep then bingo a new knee. What's the name of your recovery thread? Big hug, Maggie x

I'd better be still up, it's only 10:30AM on Sunday :) I haven't started my recovery thread, title will be something new and innovative....probably something like TexasTee HAS a new knee :) I'll tag you so it will show up...we're in this together girl!

@TexasTee Thanks Teresa...yep knee buddies, that's us. What do you have planned for today?

On Tuesday I'm helping my friend with the dog walking business...I do this a couple of times a week. Just love the dogs, lots of pats and slobby kisses. Great therapy for me at the moment. I'll miss it while I'm recovering. Friends will bring their doggies by for me to get some therapeutic K9 time..miss my girl

Still wide awake....just an age thing I think... nothing sinister beyond a pain in the bum.

Still trying to figure out the time difference, but I think that your Wednesday is our Tuesday, so that's when I'll be keeping good thoughts for you @Maggie94! So glad you and @TexasTee 'found' each other (gosh that sounded lame), but it really will make recovery a tiny bit easier having someone to go through this with. I didn't find BS until 3 weeks post op and boy could I have used it sooner. Anyway, best of luck and I know you'll do great!

@Maggie94 , @TexasTee ,
About the bed thing: I set up a nest in the family room because it is close to tv, bath, kitchen, etc. and it has been working well. A lot of people seem to have trouble getting comfortable which I now understand.
Luckily, I've been sleeping fine. You'll figure out what's best for you once you get home.
I'm thinking about both of you. What time are your surgeries?
((((hugs)))
Karen

Hope you are sleeping by now Mz Maggie!

I am a cleaning machine...laundry is nearly done, fridge/freezer are empty of anything that can't be used up by a person that can't cook, organized and clean - stove/micro polished and shined...I'm not cooking anything this weekend - I've been making rounds to my favorite restaurants that don't deliver or do take out. Just need to steam clean the tile in the kitchen and vacuum the area rugs and I'm off to figure out where to go for lunch.

Rest well!

Thanks Karen - yes, that makes sense. I am setting up my nest today and stocking everything I'll need there but will let the knee decide where I'll sleep. I report in at 6AM tomorrow - guessing the actual surgery will be about 8.

@Maggie94 and @TexasTee ,
I just thought of a couple things that may be helpful to you.
I have been using an old belt to lift my leg onto and off of the bed. A dog leash would work just as well.
I am never without it and carry it around my neck so I won't misplace it.
Also, right before surgery, I decided to get a rollator walker ($54 at Amazon). Money well spent. Very helpful to transport things from place to place and you always have a seat nearby.
Teresa, I'll be thinking about you tomorrow. It will be over before you know it.
Post when you can. I tried sending a text when I got back to my room and could not type two words without falling asleep! Best of luck, you'll do great!
(((hugs to both)))
Karen

thanks @kaw205 Karen, great idea about the dog lead - both Teresa and I have those cause we are both doggie people. Understand re being doped to the eyeballs immediately post op.... is this like being legally high??

@TexasTee its now 10.36 here... no idea what it is for you but know that it can only be a couple of hours for the journey that will herald the rest of your life - thinking of you.

Hope all who read this are recovering, preparing and managing pain - big hug form this Aussie on Australia Day - Maggie x

Happy Australia Day, Maggie!!! Just about 11 hours away from reporting to the hospital and more than ready to go...see you on the other side friend!

Happy Australia Day @Maggie94 What I did for sleeping was to move a bed downstairs to the main floor of the house. If you have a two story and your sleeping upstairs make sure you have a hand rail on both sides of the stairs. Be careful the first week or two. The legs don't bend well for navigating stairs. As for the sleeping positions. What ever works for you kiddo. Just stay positive and it will turn out great. Have a great day.
Harry.

thanks @oldrugbyprop Harry my house is all on one lever - it is 102 years old:wink: the back of my house is north facing terrace that goes form the back of the house propper to rear lane - about 30 meters (north in southern hemisphere gets sun all day - like your south pref in the north) then a big lounge dining kitchen combined - this is where Bettie the recliner lives. Then there is a hall along one side of the rest of the house with first bathroom then my bedroom - other bedrooms further along. so really I figure if I ca walk 50 meters I will be able to hobble back and forwards between bedroom & lounge.

How are you travelling friend - you are at your 6 week point - favour... put you thinking cap on and tell me the best and worst things for first 2 weeks, next 2 and the last 2... probably a big ask but just looking for milestones and road humps. Hope all is good with you - take care - Maggie x
